Abstract

Abstract

Anemia continues to be an important and widespread public health problem, so it must be addressed. About 1.74 (1.72-1.76) billion people worldwide suffer from anemia, especially children under five, women of reproductive age (WRA), and pregnant women. As many as 500 million WRA suffer from anemia; this will impact the loss of productivity due to decreased work capacity, cognitive impairment, susceptibility to infections, and increased risk of complications in pregnancy and childbirth. This study analyzes the risk factors for anemia in women of reproductive age (15-59) who work in horticultural agriculture. The study was conducted with a cross-sectional design involving 160 participants from three main centers of horticultural agriculture in West Lampung Regency. SPSS was used for Chi-square analysis, Odds Ratio, and Logistic Regression (alpha = 0.05). The results showed that the prevalence of anemia in women of reproductive age who worked in horticultural agriculture was 27.5%. The study also identified three risk factors for anemia: poor nutritional status (AOR = 24.53; 95% CI 5.59-107.70), lack of protein intake (AOR = 28.01; 95% CI 6.97- 112.52), and less intake of high iron vegetables (AOR = 6.13; 95% CI 1.79-21.01). Nutritional interventions should emphasize increasing protein, iron, and vitamins through improved diet, fortification efforts, and iron supplementation.

Abstract

Pesticide poisoning is still an important health problem in agricultural areas, especially horticultural agriculture. Various chronic health effects can be caused by long-term exposure to pesticides. This study aims to determine the risk factor of pesticide poisoning in horticultural farmers in West Lampung Regency. The study used a cross sectional design which was conducted in four different areas as the center of horticulture agriculture, West Lampung Regency, Lampung Province. The study involved 289 participants by interviewing, observing and examining blood samples to measure cholinesterase levels as an indicator of pesticide poisoning. In this section, we have applied research ethical procedures. The obtained data were analyzed using Chi squre test, Odds Ratio test and Logistic Regression. The results showed that the risk factors for pesticide poisoning were incomplete use of personal protected equipment (PPE), spraying with the wrong dose and spraying frequency. Unwearing a complete PPE had a 4.54 times (OR = 4.54; 95% CI 2.09-9.83) higher risk of experiencing pesticide poisoning, and statistically suggested, a very significant relationship (p = 0.0001). While the use of excessive dosage has a risk of 4.39 times (OR = 4.39; 95% CI 1.87-10.33; p = 0.001); and the frequency of spraying more than twice a week had a 2.33 times higher risk of experiencing pesticide poisoning (OR = 2.33; 95% CI 1.24-4.40; p = 0.009).Excessive use of pesticide dosage and the frequency of spraying with the cover blanked method are the main factors of pesticide exposure to farmers. On the other hand, the use of PPE is a method of protection from exposure. It needs joint efforts through increasing knowledge about the dangers of pesticides, pesticide management, how to work safely, and the use of PPE.

Abstract

The problem that often occurs in post-partum mothers after giving birth is the occurrence of breast swelling where there is a narrowing of the lactiferous ducts or the glands are not completely emptied or due to abnormalities in the nipples such as blisters or sinking nipples. Aloe vera gel compresses and cabbage leaves are useful to help reduce pain, swelling, and tenderness in wounds. This study aims to analyze aloe vera compresses and breast care compared to cabbage leaf compresses and breast care on breast swelling in postpartum mothers. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test post-test non-randomized control group design. The non-probability sampling technique is a consecutive sampling type. The research sample for each group was 15 respondents at one of the Central Lampung Health Centers in June-October 2020. The type of data analysis was the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that the average swelling of the breasts before being given an aloe vera compress was 4.53 and the average after being given an aloe vera compress was 2.47. The mean breast swelling before compressing cabbage leaves was 5.00 and after compressing cabbage leaves was 3.60. Giving aloe vera compresses is effective in preventing breast swelling in postpartum mothers with a p-value

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding, and the incidence of stunting in toddlers. The objective is to identify how these nutritional practices impact child growth and development. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted involving 135 toddlers at Puskesmas Yosomulyo, utilizing a combination of interviews and questionnaires to gather data on feeding practices and health outcomes. The findings reveal that toddlers who received exclusive breastfeeding and appropriate complementary foods exhibited significantly lower rates of stunting compared to those who did not. Specifically, 33% of toddlers who were not exclusively breastfed experienced stunting, while only 19 toddlers who received appropriate complementary food were stunted. The results underscore the critical role of proper nutrition in early childhood development and highlight the need for enhanced educational programs for parents regarding feeding practices. In conclusion, promoting exclusive breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding is essential for reducing stunting rates and improving overall child health

Abstract

Reducing stunting in children is the first of six Global Nutrition Targets for 2025 and serves as a key indicator in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Stunting is associated with increased risks of illness, mortality, and impaired motor and cognitive development in children. According to the 2022 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI), the prevalence of stunting in Lampung Province decreased to 15.2%, down from 18.5% in 2021. However, in Metro City, the prevalence increased from 7.29% (2021) to 10.4% (2022), with the highest rate recorded in the working area of Yosomulyo Health Center at 11%. This study aims to analyze the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding, history of low birth weight (LBW), and immunization status with the incidence of stunting in toddlers. This research is a quantitative study with a case-control analytic design. The population consisted of children aged 1–5 years who experienced stunting in the Yosomulyo Health Center working area between February and June 2024, totaling 84 children (11%). The sample consisted of 45 children in the case group and 90 children in the control group (a 1:2 ratio), selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with SPSS software after conducting a normality test. The analysis showed a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding, history of LBW, and immunization status with the incidence of stunting (p<0.001). Factors such as lack of exclusive breastfeeding, low birth weight, and incomplete immunization are significantly associated with the incidence of stunting. Early prevention of stunting can be achieved through proper pregnancy planning and regular antenatal care.
