Abstract

Background: Increasing obesity sufferers every year, in a few decades becomes an impor­tant problem. Increased obesity can lead to an increa­s­­ed risk of degenerative diseases which can cause death. Several attempts have been made to prevent and treat obesity. The pur­­­pose of this study is to determine the effective­­ness of peer edu­­ca­tion on knowledge, attitudes, and con­sump­­tion of fast food in adolescents.Subjects and Method: This study is a ran­do­m­ized controlled trial conducted at a Junior High School (SMP Ne­geri 6 Medan), North Su­matera. Samples taken were 60 stu­dents chosen random­ly. The sample was divided into 2 groups: a peer game edu­cation leaf­let group and a peer edu­cation modu­le group. The depen­dent va­r­i­­­able is know­ledge, attitudes, and habits of fast fo­od con­sumption. The indepen­dent vari­able is the pro­vision of leaflets and peer edu­ca­tion mo­du­­les. The data were obtained through in­­­ter­­­­­view, Food Frequency Question­naire (FFQ), and Food Re­call 24 hours. Data were analy­z­ed using t-test.Results: The results showed that the value of nut­ritional knowledge and obesity in the control group (Mean= 12.07; SD= 1.44) was lower com­pared to the intervention group (Mean= 13.50; SD= 1.99), but not statistically significant (p= 0.523). Attitudes toward nutrition and obesity in the control group (Mean= 11.50; SD= 1.22) were low­er than those in the intervention group (Mean = 13.00; SD= 1.78) and were statistically proven sig­nifi­cant (p= 0.008). The score of fast food con­­sumption habits in the control group (Mean= 8.17; SD= 1.23) is lower than that of the inter­vention group (Mean= 9.50; SD= 1.17) and is statis­tically proven significant (p <0.001).Conclusion: The nutrition peer education mo­dule has been shown to be effective in increas­­ing attitudes about nutrition and obesity and redu­cing fast food consumption habits and this has been statistically significant. Abstract

Waste is something that is not used, is not worn, is not liked, or is something that is thrown away that comes from human activities and does not happen by itself. Based on a survey conducted by researchers at Pancur Batu Market, Deli Serdang Regency, traders do not participate enough in waste management, traders still throw waste carelessly and do not collect and separate waste according to type, and there is a lack of information provided by market managers regarding market management policies. This research aims to determine the relationship between trader participation, the role of managers and policies in waste management at Pancur Batu Market, Deli Serdang Regency. This type of research is quantitative research with a cross sectional design. The population of this research was 600 traders at Pancur Batu Market, Deli Serdang Regency. The research sample was 86 traders using proportional random sampling techniques. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test. The results of this study indicate that trader participation has value (p = 0.024 < 0.05), the role of managers (p = 0.030 < 0.05), and policy (p = 0.000 < 0.05) with waste management at the Pancur Batu Regency Market Deli Serdang in 2024 It is recommended that the Pancur Batu market management provide information regarding waste management policies and provide strict sanctions if traders throw rubbish carelessly.

Abstract

The majority of Indonesians have long been familiar with chips as a snack item. Apart from that, improper processing of chips might result in food risks arising from chemical, biological, and physical aspects. This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitudes with the principles of food sanitation hygiene. Cross-sectional research design is used in this observational study, the population consisted of 53 individuals who worked for the tempeh chip company in Koto Agung Village, Sitiung District, Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra Province. The chi-square test was used for univariate and bivariate data analysis. The results of chi-square test obtained the relationship between knowledge and the principles of food sanitation hygiene in tempeh chips business with p = 0.000, there was a relationship between attitude and the principles of food sanitation hygiene in the tempeh chips business with p = 0.007. The study's findings indicate a connection between attitudes and understanding of the fundamentals of food sanitary hygiene in the tempeh chip industry. All employees of the Koto Agung Village, Sitiung District, Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra Province tempeh Chip Company are advised to be knowledgeable about and adopt a positive attitude toward food sanitation hygiene by the year 2023. Abstrak. Sebagian besar masyarakat Indonesia sudah lama mengenal keripik sebagai makanan ringan. Selain itu, pengolahan keripik yang tidak tepat dapat mengakibatkan risiko pangan yang timbul dari aspek kimia, biologi, dan fisik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara pengetahuan dan sikap dengan prinsip higiene sanitasi pangan. Penelitian observasional ini menggunakan desain penelitian cross-sectional, populasi sebanyak 53 orang yang bekerja pada perusahaan keripik tempe di Desa Koto Agung, Kecamatan Sitiung, Kabupaten Dharmasraya, Provinsi Sumatera Barat. Analisis data univariat dan bivariat menggunakan uji chi-square. Hasil uji chi-square diperoleh hubungan pengetahuan dengan prinsip higiene sanitasi pangan pada usaha keripik tempe dengan p = 0,000, terdapat hubungan sikap dengan prinsip higiene sanitasi pangan pada usaha keripik tempe dengan p = 0,007. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya hubungan antara sikap dengan pemahaman tentang dasar-dasar higiene sanitasi pangan pada industri keripik tempe. Seluruh karyawan di Desa Koto Agung Kecamatan Sitiung Kabupaten Dharmasraya Provinsi Sumatera Barat dihimbau untuk memiliki pengetahuan dan bersikap positif terhadap higiene sanitasi pangan pada tahun 2023.

Abstract

Hypertension is a global health issue that contributes to increased morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases. The pre-elderly population requires special attention as they undergo a transitional phase toward old age, during which physiological changes increase the risk of hypertension. This study aims to identify risk factors for hypertension among pre-elderly individuals in the working area of UPTD Puskesmas Lolomatua, South Nias Regency. The study employs an analytical observational method with a case-control design, analyzing data using the Chi-Square test, Odds Ratio (OR), and 95% Confidence Intervals (CI). The study sample consists of 86 pre-elderly respondents, including 43 cases (hypertension) and 43 controls (non-hypertension). The results indicate a significant association between sodium intake and hypertension (p = 0.005; OR = 3.894), sleep quality (p = 0.000; OR = 4.350), and physical activity (p = 0.001; OR = 4.350). However, smoking habits were not associated with hypertension (p = 0.514; OR = 9.431). Pre-elderly individuals with excessive sodium intake, poor sleep quality, and low physical activity have a fourfold increased risk of developing hypertension. In contrast, smoking habits did not show a significant risk for hypertension. Therefore, regular health check-ups are recommended for pre-elderly individuals to maintain stable blood pressure.

Abstract

Stunting is a form of chronic malnutrition that adversely affects the growth and development of children under five years of age. This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with stunting among children in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Banda Aceh in 2023 involving 128 respondents, comprising 64 stunted children (cases) and 64 non-stunted children (controls). Data were analyzed using chi-square tests and logistic regression at the 95% confidence level. Results: Maternal knowledge (p=0,002), socioeconomic status (p=0,005), breastfeeding practices (p=0,012), birth weight (p=0,009), and maternal educational level (p=0,014) were significantly associated with stunting. The dominant factor influencing stunting was low birth weight (odds ratio [OR] =2,4; p=0,012). In conclusion, low birth weight was identified as the primary determinant of stunting. Other factors, such as maternal knowledge, education, socioeconomic status, and breastfeeding also played a role, although they were not significant in the multivariate analysis. Stunting prevention should begin during pregnancy through multi-sectoral interventions, nutrition education, strengthened antenatal care services, and family economic empowerment.

Abstract

Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah untuk memberikan edukasi tentang personal hygiene dan pengobatan gratis kepada anak-anak dan remaja yang ada di Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak (LPKA) Kelas 1 Medan sehingga dapat meningkatkan derajat kesehatan, memelihara kebersihan diri, pencegahan penyakit, meningkatkan percaya diri serta menciptakan kenyamanan dan keindahan di lingkungan LPKA. Metode yang digunakan adalah berupa penyuluhan tentang personal hygiene, pemeriksaan kesehatan dan pengobatan gratis kepada anak-anak atau remaja.Kegiatan ini terlaksana dengan baik bahkan para peserta terlihat sangat antusias dalam mengikuti acara tersebut dan selanjutnya dilakukan pemeriksaan gratis pada gigi, mulut dan kulit serta pemberian obat terkait penyakit tersebut.Dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini anak-anak dan remaja memperoleh manfaat yang sangat banyak selain ilmu pengetahuan juga ketrampilan dalam melakukan personal hygiene yang dapat dilakukan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari agar terhindar dari penyakit dan lebih produktif. Disarankan kepada petugas Lapas agar lebih memperhatikan personal hygiene anak-anak dan remaja yang menjadi asuhannya sehingga terhindar dari penyakit tersebut dan kegiatan penyuluhan kesehatan tentang personal hygiene sebaiknya dilakukan secara berkelanjutan.
