Abstract

As the field of early childhood education continues to evolve, various innovative learning methods have been implemented to support the development of children's fine motor skills. One method that has gained attention is ecoprint activities, which are known to enhance motor skills through artistic and creative engagement. This study aims to examine the effect of Ecoprint activities featuring the Belida fish pattern, a cultural symbol of South Sumatra, on the fine motor development of children aged 5–6 years at RA Jamiyatul Qurro KH. Burlian, Ogan Komering Ulu. The research employed a pre-experimental method using a one-group pretest-posttest design. A total of 15 children were selected as participants through purposive sampling. Data collection techniques included tests, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using a one-sample t-test. The results of the t-test showed that t_count = 4.30 ≥ t_table = 1.761, indicating that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. This finding suggests that ecoprint activities using the Belida fish pattern from South Sumatra have a significant effect on the fine motor development of children aged 5–6 years at RA Jamiyatul Qurro KH. Burlian, Ogan Komering Ulu.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a phonics-based learning method using a "Magic Board" to stimulate reading abilities in children aged 5–6 years at Kindergarten A Grace. The study adopts the Rowntree development model, which includes the stages of planning, development, and evaluation, and is tested using Tessmer’s formative evaluation approach. This includes self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one evaluation, and small group evaluation. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The validation results from expert judgment indicated that the media aspect achieved a score of 90%, while the material aspect scored 97%, demonstrating high validity. In the one-to-one evaluation involving three children, the effectiveness reached 92%, while the small group evaluation with nine children yielded a practicality score of 93%, resulting in an average practicality of 92% (categorized as very practical). The development of the Magic Board media for children aged 5–6 years at Kindergarten A Grace is therefore proven to be highly valid and practical. These findings are supported by the strong alignment between the media content and the characteristics of young learners, as well as its relevance to the curriculum in use. The media development process involved several key stages, from initial prototype design and expert review to child-centered evaluations using Tessmer’s formative assessment. Each step yielded positive results, supporting the effectiveness of the Magic Board as a learning tool in early childhood education.

Abstract

This classroom action research (CAR) aims to improve children's creativity through sand painting activities. The background of this study is the low level of creativity observed among children in group B3 at Az-Zahrah Islamic Kindergarten, Palembang. Many children still face difficulties in developing ideas, imagination, and creativity. They tend to imitate given examples, showing limited flexibility, originality, and innovation, and often appear hesitant to try new approaches. Furthermore, some children lack interest in coloring activities. Based on pre-cycle observations, out of 15 children, 13 (87%) were categorized as “Starting to Develop” (MB), while only 2 children (13%) reached the “Developing as Expected” (BSH) category. The research was conducted over two cycles, with each cycle consisting of six meetings. The participants were selected using purposive sampling, focusing on group B3 students. Data were collected through observations, checklists, and field notes. The results of the study show that in Cycle I, 11 children (73%) achieved the BSH category. In Cycle II, the number increased to 12 children (80%) in the BSH category, and 4 children (20%) reached the “Very Well Developed” (BSB) category. These findings indicate that sand painting activities are effective in enhancing children's creativity. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers incorporate sand painting into their learning activities to foster creativity among young learners.
