Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The distribution of seagrass ecosystems along the coast of Pemenang District, North Lombok Regency, plays an important ecological and economic role. However, this ecosystem is vulnerable to damage due to human activities. The purpose of this study was to analyze the spatial distribution and extent of seagrass cover based on its cover density level. This study used remote sensing methods through the interpretation of Sentinel-2A images. The analysis process included image merging, image cropping, water column correction using the Lyzenga algorithm, image classification using supervised and unsupervised methods, and field validation at 60 observation points. The results showed that seagrass meadows were widespread along the coast and Gili islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air), with a total area of 685.26 ha. Seagrass cover density was classified into three categories, namely high (33.69%), medium (45.02%), and low (21.29%), with a mapping accuracy level of 73.33%. Based on the Decree of the Minister of Environment No. 200 of 2004, most seagrass meadows were categorized as damaged. Factors influencing this condition include domestic waste, tourism activities, ship anchors, human movement (madak), and turtle grazing activity. Seven seagrass species were identified, with Cymodocea rotundata being the most dominant. These findings emphasize the importance of regular monitoring and ongoing management to maintain the sustainability of seagrass ecosystems in the Pemenang coastal area.

Abstract

The Mangrove Essential Ecosystem Area of Bagek Kembar Sekotong, West Lombok, is a crucial resource supporting both ecological sustainability and the local community’s economy. However, low literacy and insufficient community involvement in conservation remain major obstacles for sustainable management in this area. This community service initiative aims to enhance environmental literacy through the dissemination of research findings and the establishment of a reading center. The methods used include counseling, participatory discussions, and the founding of a reading center involving youth groups, the “Jalan Pulang” sanggar managers, local tourism stakeholders (Pokdarwis), and village officials. The results show active participant engagement in discussions, the emergence of initiatives and questions related to conservation funding and carbon trading opportunities, as well as the establishment of a reading center as a hub for learning and community collaboration. This activity has proven effective in building an environmental literacy network and strengthening community empowerment synergy to support mangrove ecosystem sustainability.

Abstract

Indonesia, including in the Kelep Watershed, Lombok Island, flood disasters frequently occur. Land use changes and climate variability make this area more vulnerable to floods. This study aims to analyze the distribution and level of flood vulnerability and the dominant factors causing flood vulnerability in the Kelep Watershed. The method used was the weighting of six parameters, namely slope, landform, soil type, rainfall, land use, and river buffer, which were then overlaid using ArcGIS 10.8 software. The results showed that the highly flood-prone areas were spread across all sub-districts in the Kelep watershed, with the highest concentration in Sekotong, Lembar and Southwest Praya sub-districts. The three villages with the highest flood-prone areas are Candi Manik, Sekotong Tengah and Taman Baru. These areas require special attention as they often experience serious impacts due to flooding. Based on the validation test, the RMSE value of 5.95% indicates acceptable accuracy. The resulting flood vulnerability classification map can be used as a flood early warning system or basis for flood risk mitigation and is proposed to be implemented through cross-sector collaboration to improve preparedness and reduce disaster impacts.
