Abstract

The phenomenon of school dropout among children of oil palm farmers in Karaban Jaya Village, Subah Sub-district, Sambas District shows a complex problem that is not only related to economic aspects, but also influenced by social, psychological and infrastructure factors. This study aims to identify the factors that cause children of oil palm farmers to drop out of school and the impact on their social and psychological development. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach, through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results showed that low interest in learning, limited facilities for secondary education, poor road infrastructure, and the influence of an unfavorable social environment were the main causes. In addition, early symptoms such as inferiority towards outsiders, closed attitudes, low rationality, and laziness in developing themselves were found as strong indications towards the risk of dropping out of school. These findings underscore the importance of holistic interventions involving families, schools, communities and governments in preventing school dropout in palm oil producing villages. This research is expected to serve as a basis for the formulation of social and area-based education policies in order to guarantee children's right to equal and sustainable education.

Abstract

The covid-19 pandemic threatens public health alone, therefore most governments in various countries in the world affected by covid-19 take steps in the form of mobility restriction policies to prevent the spread of the virus in the community this also applies in Indonesia. Restrictions on people's mobility make the problems experienced by the community more complex and difficult to control, the number of mass layoffs becomes a trigger for high unemployment in Indonesia. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods. Data collection is done through an online repository, by filtering keywords in search; criminal acts of trafficking, women migrant workers, protection of migrant workers and handling of trafficking cases in the period of emigrants. Each author is tasked with collecting data based on search keywords. Based on the results of research, the high unemployment rate in the pandemic period became one of the main triggers for the criminal act of trafficking in persons. The situation of female migrant workers working abroad is increasingly complex because some of them are undocumented and some have been over-stayers. There are currently around 6 to 8 million Indonesian migrant workers abroad and the majority of them are women. Cases of human trafficking in the border region during the COVID-19 pandemic increased with economic mode. The closure of cross-border postal access is not effective enough in suppressing cases of trafficking at the country's borders. Various efforts have been made by the Indonesian government ranging from implementing policies to efforts to cooperate with various stakeholders — namely the government as regulators, policy makers, as well as law enforcement, and private parties as business actors / recruiters of labor and banking, as well as civil society institutions that are the driving force – to seek protection for Indonesian migrant workers abroad.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the implementation of the Smart Indonesia Program (Pip) (Case Study at Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 1 Dedai ) Dedai Regency. Since the reformation era and the enactment of the regional autonomy law, namely Law Number 22 of 1999 concerning regional government, and Law Number 25 of 1999 concerning financial balance between the center and regions (now being refined into Law Number 23 of 2014). The objectives to be achieved in this study are: To determine the process of implementing the Smart Indonesia Program at Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 1 Dedai (PIP-SMP) Dedai Regency. The organization in proposing PIP recipients, which often occurs when duplicate data is submitted to the sekolah and to be included in the system, is a problem because there are still many separate proposals that do not meet the criteria that should receive PIP assistance. Interpretation in distribution for PIP recipients always faces obstacles such as the transfer of financial institutions / banks that collaborate with the government for disbursement of PIP recipient funds so that it requires a fairly long process for each transfer.

Abstract

This Community Service Activity (PKM) was carried out in the form of a workshop with the theme of Optimizing Farmers' Social Capabilities in Food Disaster Mitigation in Matang Danau Village, Sambas Regency. The background of this activity stems from Indonesia's condition as an agrarian country that still relies on agriculture, especially rice, as the backbone of food supply. Although national rice production in January–June 2025 increased significantly to 19.16 million tons, food security still faces major challenges due to climate change, crop failures, and food distribution inequalities. The purpose of this activity was to increase farmers' understanding of the concepts of national and family food security, as well as to identify and optimize their social capabilities for food disaster mitigation. The workshop was held on August 23, 2025, and was attended by 30 participants consisting of farmers. The methods used included a pre-test, material delivery, group discussions, social capability mapping, and a post-test to measure the increase in participants' knowledge. The evaluation results showed an average score increase from 52 on the pre-test to 82 on the post-test, or an increase of 30 points (57.7%). In addition, participants successfully identified four main pillars of social capabilities in Matang Danau Village, namely social capital, local knowledge, social institutions, and social solidarity. Group discussions revealed various practices such as mutual cooperation in repairing irrigation systems, rice barns, the use of terajoong, and the tradition of sharing grain during crises. In conclusion, this workshop succeeded in increasing participants' understanding and awareness that social capabilities are an important force that can be mobilized to deal with the risk of food crises. Recommended follow-up actions include the establishment of a Resilient Food Farmers Forum, the revitalization of village granaries, the strengthening of the role of youth and women, and ongoing assistance from the government and universities.
