Abstract

The research aimed to improve the quality problem from the previous plant that contributed to the Rate of Quality (RQ) and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) value in Cylinder Block Machining (CBM). The research was done in one of an automotive company in Indonesia. It had been applying Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) with Kaizen spirit to make continuous improvement even though this company had reached a world-class level on the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) standard. To express the needs and wants of the current machining plant and improve quality problems from the previous process in the casting plant, the researchers used Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method. From the result, it is known that shrinkage defect at a casting product becomes the priority of the kaizen team to achieve next process customer satisfaction in a machining plant to increase the RQ and OEE value. By implementing improvement based on the highest value of Technical Priorities (TP) from House of Quality (HOQ), it can increase RQ value in CBM from 96,4% in December 2018 to 97,9% in February 2019. Then, OEE value increases from 92% to 93% within two months.

Abstract

PT. Telkom Indonesia is the largest telecommunications provider in Indonesia which has been serving the country for about 160 years. As the company grows, the range of service it provided also improved, starting from just a fixed line provider to internet and IP TV. Telkom always follows what its customers need. However, the occurrence of problem cannot be avoided. Problems can always appear from many aspects either it is controllable and uncontrollable.  To provide the best service, Telkom offers the services to fix and repair any problem faced by its customers, but this is not an easy task, until today Telkom has not yet been able to meet the Service Level Guaranteed which it promised to its customers. There are also many outstanding tickets unresolved even when Telkom has many human resources. Therefore, this research aims to reduce the time required to fix problems and solve tickets through lean methodology for service by implementing value stream mapping and eliminating as well as improving the non-value-added activities and non-value-added but necessary. Through this approach, this paper assumes that currently it is highly possible to achieve the service level guaranteed as long as improvements are made.

Abstract

The production process of the garment industry with socks products in a company often has problems with a decrease in machine productivity. Production results still cannot reach the production target and result in disruption of delivery to customers. This study aims to determine the main causes that affect the decline in production and provide solutions to increase production. The method used in this research is the Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) approach and the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) method. This method is appropriate in analyzing increased production and measuring the effectiveness of the use of equipment in production efficiency. The results of this study can determine the main causes that affect production decline using Failure Models and Effects Analysis (FMEA), namely, the standard speed fluctuates 336 RPN, medium speed 245 RPN, sloping creel 150 RPN, narrow engine room 120 RPN, and dirty engine 72 RPN. The measurement of the effectiveness of the use of equipment in terms of production efficiency (OEE) before the repair is 63% and after modification is 73%, meaning that the OEE value after the change has increased by 8%. This is evidenced by an increase in production output by 112% on an average per machine/month.

Abstract

Benchmarking is a systematic and continuous process by comparing the products, processes, and results of an organization with other similar organizations. Benchmarking is generally done by comparing it to an organization that has a better level because it aims to provide input for internal improvement in the organization so that it becomes better than the position before the benchmarking was done. Educational institutions also need to carry out a benchmarking process as this can contribute to determining learning and promotion strategies, improving the learning process and curriculum development, improving physical infrastructure facilities, improving operations, performance. In this study, the method used is a literature review of 35 journals, then the classification is done based on the country and the type of benchmark performed. The results show that until 2020 the benchmarking process is still being carried out and continues to be carried out in various countries, both in developed countries to developing countries. However, from the literature that has been reviewed, there are still gaps to examine the strengths and weaknesses of higher education in terms of implementing the digitalization of educational systems, the quality of graduates with a digital education system, and implementing digital libraries in universities. Types of benchmarking processes and benchmarking strategies can be carried out to research the implementation of digital education, this is because it is a type of benchmarking process and strategy that can determine global competition.

Abstract

Competition in the automotive industry, especially in Indonesia, is quite tight. Automotive OEMs require their suppliers, both Tier-1 and Tier-2, to supply quality products consistently. One of the indicators of supplier evaluation is the quality performance with abnormal product quality detection parameters from supplier to automotive OEM, and even to end-user if this happens on motorcycles. For this reason, this research aims to analyze and improve supplier performance level, mainly the manufacture of OEM motorcycle spare parts, by looking at the risk of production process failure. The method analyses for this research use AIAG-VDA PFMEA to analyze this starting from the closest case or the occurrence of abnormal violations on the assembly of OEMs and even end-users of motorcycles. The results showed that one of the suppliers processing with the lowest value, the Cap Camshaft product, in the casting process, there was a crack failure on the product. The cause of cracking by analyzing the casting process found that was due to bile on the casting and the instability of the bolting assembly area caused cracking on the camshaft cover. The repaired item standardizes the Nozzle Spray Die on Dies' lubrication direction and increases the level of abnormal detection, especially cracks with color detector inspection items. The Purpose of improvement proposals is to analyze the process with risk forecasting patterns and avoid process failures and even flow to customers.

Abstract

This study aims to implement the Six Sigma method on formal men's jacket products in the garment industry to increase the level of sigma. The methodology is based on the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) approach. The new approach in this study is the determination of 5W+1H using a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with five expert judgments. The design of this study has applied the Six Sigma method at the Measure stage. It is a measurement before improvement and after the Control stage as a measurement after improvement. The results of this study have increased the level of sigma from 3.5765 to 3.7839, so there is an increase of 5.48%. Increasing the sigma level contributes to a decrease in defects at the finish line by 44.09% every month. Implementing the Six Sigma method to the DMAIC approach has succeeded in increasing the level of sigma, automatically reducing the percentage of defects and increasing the productivity of formal men's jackets in the garment industry.

Abstract

Business competition is increasingly fierce, demanding that companies must provide the best products and services to customers. The quality of a product or service is an essential aspect for the continuity of a business, especially those attribute items that are directly felt by customers when purchasing or using a product. This study was aimed to analyze the quality of service to customers in a hospital-based on customer preferences. Customer assessment of each hospital quality indicator was performed through filling out questionnaires by inpatients, to determine the gap between the importance and performance levels. The analytical method used was Importance-Performance Analysis-IPA. As many as 25 quality indicators are identified from SERVQUAL. The quality dimension that becomes a priority for improved performance is related to Reliability, Assurance, and Empathy.

Abstract

The scope of this research is in one of the textile industries with elastic tape produced on the weaving machine, which has decreased production due to production defects that do not meet the target. This research aims to determine the leading causes of dominant defects, increase the sigma level with Six Sigma methods, and propose improvements to be included in the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) method. The results of this study that the dominant factor causing the defect is the curved elastic tape defect, which consists of the machine factor, and the method. Factors driving the machine include the hook like a side thread lock that is often bent and the difference in the thickness of the tape between the left, middle and right. The causative factor of this method is checking the thickness of the elastic band only in the center position. The results of corrective actions impact increasing the sigma level by 10% from 3.3339 to 3.6832. In contrast, repair defects can reduce defects before repair by 18.92% and after repair by 9.23%. It is proposed to be included in the KPI so that the weaving department can control and be enthusiastic about continuous improvement.
