Abstract

Language is the ability to communicate with others, encompassing various forms such as verbal, written, gestures, numbers, drawings, and facial expressions. It allows people to express thoughts, feelings, and ideas using symbols. Effective communication requires language skills, which are essential for humans to connect with one another. Language is a key factor that distinguishes humans from animals, enabling individuals to understand themselves, others, and their surroundings. Through language, people can share their thoughts, preferences, and ideas. In Kasreman village, Kanangan subdistrict, Kediri district, many children cannot communicate well, which is due to a lack of interaction between parents and children. Based on this, it inspired the PKM team consisting of UNHASY lecturers and students to carry out PKM with the title "Outreach for Parents About the Importance of Language Learning for Early Childhood in Kasreman Village, Kandangan, Kediri." This activity aims to equip parents so they can apply it in everyday life.

Abstract

In an effort to implement the Independent Curriculum, English teachers face a major challenge in creating creative and innovative teaching materials. The Independent Curriculum gives teachers the freedom to determine teaching methods and teaching materials that suit students' needs, but this also requires high creativity from teachers (Kemendikbud, 2021). Many teachers are still trapped in conventional teaching patterns and find it difficult to develop interesting and interactive materials (Putri, 2023). In this training, a program was implemented in the form of training to increase knowledge and insight related to physical visual teaching materials. Therefore, the approach methods used are presentations, lectures, practice, questions and answers, discussions, simulations, and pair or group work. The results of this training are that English teachers at the MGMP MAN Kab Jombang level are able to create innovative and contemporary media teaching materials to increase students' learning motivation in class. Literary work is a creative work of art using beautiful language that comes from thoughts, feelings, ideas, imagination, and experiences that often occur in people's daily lives. The researcher used Sigmund Freud's theory in the literary psychology approach. The qualitative descriptive method was used in this research. Data were collected using reading and note-taking techniques and used triangulation to ensure data validity. Data analysis used data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The data found were classified based on the Id, Ego, and Superego personality structures. The results found that (1) Keiko's personalities as the main character consists of id, ego, and superego. The id influences the main character to act spontaneously under the subconscious, pursue pleasure, enjoyment, and satisfaction that must be fulfilled, and has a primitive urge to act. The ego sensitizes the main character with realistic thoughts that function for problem-solving and decision-making. The superego controls Keiko's idealistic attitude and moral values. (2) The personality disorder experienced by the main character consists of paranoid, schizoid, narcissistic, and anti-social.

Abstract

In this study, the researchers implemented brain-based learning (BBL) model and the use of the students’ high order thinking skills (HOTS) in the teaching and learning of writing. The aim of this study was to know whether or not there was an interaction effect between teaching models and students’ HOTS on the students’ writing ability. This experimental research used a 2x2 factorial design. Two classes of the fourth semester of English Language Department became the population and the sample in this study. The students in both of the classes were divided into the students with high and low HOTS. Then, the experimental class was taught writing by using BBL and the control class used guided writing. Next, the data got from the writing test were calculated by using a two-way ANOVA. The result showed that Fo interaction (10.160) was higher than Ft (4.15) at the level of significance α=0.05. It means that there was an interaction effect between teaching models and students’ HOTS on the students’ writing ability. The mean score of the students with high HOTS taught by using BBL (82.44) was the highest. This brings to the conclusion that BBL and HOTS had significant interaction effect on the students’ writing ability. The skills of analyzing, evaluating and creating the students whose HOTS was high worked well when having discussion. The students’ relaxed feelings in BBL class could help them to get information about what to be written in their texts more and more by having discussion.
