Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the quality of learning media used in the Islamic Religious Education course at Kadiri University, Indonesia. The evaluation focuses on the learning media and supporting facilities within the classroom, including projectors, screens, audio systems, and physical conditions such as seating, room temperature, and elevator accessibility. A qualitative descriptive approach based on Miles and Huberman's model was employed, with data collected through direct observation and in-depth interviews involving five students from the Faculty of Health Sciences who attended the course during the odd semester. The findings reveal that the quality of learning media and facilities generally supports an effective and comfortable learning environment. Well-functioning projectors, audio systems, and comfortable seating are key factors in facilitating the learning process. The availability of an elevator also enhances mobility for students and lecturers between floors, contributing to smoother lecture activities. However, several issues were noted, including deteriorating chair conditions and inconsistent air conditioning performance in some instances. This study highlights the importance of routine maintenance to ensure the quality of classroom facilities and optimize the learning experience. Furthermore, it opens avenues for future research on the relationship between facility quality, student learning outcomes, and the integration of advanced technology in learning media for Islamic Religious Education.

Abstract

Ngadiluwih District, Kediri Regency, has great potential in shaping a moderate and high-quality young generation, particularly within the environment of Madrasah Diniyah Al-Munfaq Badal. The social and cultural diversity of the local community, combined with its strategic geographical location, makes this area ideal for developing religious education that promotes the values of religious moderation. This program was designed to address social challenges such as intolerance and radicalism, which may emerge when religious understanding is not accompanied by a moderate and inclusive outlook. Students, as future leaders, play a crucial role in fostering a peaceful society and therefore need to be equipped with contextual and socially relevant religious values. The program utilized a dialogical and participatory approach through activities such as thematic discussions, religious moderation training, joint worship, inter-madrasah collaboration, community service, social visits, and reading clubs. Program results showed a 35% increase in students’ understanding of religious moderation, as reflected in pre- and post-test evaluations. Social skills also improved, indicated by active participation in inter-madrasah and community activities. Sustainable reading clubs and regular forums strengthened collaboration and inclusivity among students. This program demonstrates that religious education can effectively strengthen human values, tolerance, and social harmony in Indonesia’s diverse society.

Abstract

The low critical thinking performance of Indonesian students, as highlighted by PISA and World Bank reports, underscores the urgency of implementing Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in assessment practices. While HOTS-based evaluation is emphasized in the Merdeka Curriculum, its application in Islamic subjects, particularly fiqh, remains underexplored. This study investigates the process and challenges faced by fiqh teachers in developing HOTS-based assessments at an Islamic senior high school in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative case study, data were gathered through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, then analyzed using an interactive model with triangulation for validation. Findings indicate that teachers follow standard steps—competency analysis, blueprint design, stimulus development, item writing, and rubric construction—but encounter significant barriers, including limited mastery of Bloom’s Taxonomy, difficulties in creating contextual stimuli, dependence on textbooks, and lack of training. This study highlights the need for targeted professional development to strengthen teachers’ capacity in designing HOTS-oriented assessments.

Abstract

The accuracy of the Qibla direction is a crucial requirement in performing prayers. However, errors in determining the Qibla direction are still common and can affect the validity of worship. To address this issue, a community service program was conducted at Musholla Al-Latief Campurejo, aiming to enhance the community's understanding and skills in accurately determining the Qibla direction. This program employed modern technological approaches and astronomical methods, designed participatively to actively involve the community. The methods included education, hands-on practice, and Qibla direction verification using the A'zam Kiblat technique and observations of the Rashdul Kiblat phenomenon. Tools such as digital applications like Qibla Finder and shadow observations of upright objects during the sun's alignment over the Kaaba were utilized. The program ran from July 11 to 20, 2024, involving collaboration between facilitators, mosque caretakers, and the local community. The results demonstrated an increased scientific understanding among participants regarding the importance of Qibla accuracy and their ability to verify the direction using modern technology. High community enthusiasm and synergy among stakeholders also strengthened solidarity and awareness of the significance of precision in prayer rituals. Thus, this program successfully provided practical solutions and made a tangible contribution to improving the quality of worship among the community. Keywords: Qibla direction; prayer worship (Sholat); astronomical methods; mosque management (takmir); modern technology.

Abstract

Students university kadiri access religious information digital technology has transformed. This study examines the relationship between exposure to digital da’wah and students’ understanding of religious moderation. Employing a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, data were gathered from 108 students at University Kadiri (mean age = 20.3; 62% female) through surveys and in-depth interviews with four informants. Measurement validity was ensured using the Rasch Model (exposure: item reliability = 0.92, separation index = 3.41; moderation: reliability = 0.87, separation index = 2.61). Quantitative analysis using Spearman’s rho indicated a moderate positive correlation between social media exposure and religious moderation (ρ = 0.499, 95% CI [0.35, 0.62], p < .001). Qualitative findings revealed that exposure to inclusive and tolerant da’wah content fostered openness, tolerance, and non-violence, while limited or entertainment-focused exposure weakened these values. This study highlights the implications of digital da’wah for higher education, particularly the need to integrate moderation literacy into curricula and encourage strategic use of digital platforms to promote tolerance. Limitations include the single-site sample and the influence of algorithmic bias on content exposure. Future research should adopt multi-site and longitudinal designs to better capture dynamic shifts in digital consumption and its impact on students’ religious perspectives.
