Abstract

This research aims to determine the profile of science practicum lectures, logical thinking abilities, and systems thinking skills of prospective science teacher students in Sorong Regency. This research is a case study with pre-research, implementation, and final/post-research stages. The subjects of this research were students who were or had contracted for science practicum course. The instruments used are analysis lists, logical thinking test instruments, systems thinking scales, and systems thinking skills tests. Interviews were also conducted to support the data that had been obtained. The research results show that (1) the practicum activities that have been running so far have only trained skills in collecting, processing, and analyzing scientific research data. (2) The contents of the practicum instructions do not train students' thinking skills, such as critical thinking, systems, or problem-solving. (3) Students' logical thinking abilities are relatively evenly distributed at proportional, correlational, and combinatorial reasoning levels; however, the majority of students have reasoning in the transitional category, and there is quite a high level of concrete reasoning. (4) Students' systems thinking skills are relatively low, especially forest thinking skills. Different and innovative practicum lecture approaches need to be developed to improve logical thinking and systems thinking skills for prospective science teacher students in Sorong Regency. Low levels of logical thinking and systems thinking skills will have implications for achieving skills at the next level, such as the skills needed today, namely 21st-century skills.

Abstract

Miskonsepsi terjadi ketika seseorang meyakini benar konsep yang salah. Miskonsepsi dalam kata lain merupakan perbedaan konsepsi seseorang tentang suatu materi yang berbeda dengan konsepsi para ahli di bidangnya. Struktur kognitif yang ada pada diri siswa tidak sesuai dengan konsepsi yang dikemukakan para ahli di bidangnya juga dapat dikategorikan sebagai miskonsepsi, sehingga antara miskonsepsi dengan gaya kognitif siswa saling berkaitan. Setiap siswa memiliki gaya kognitif yang berbeda termasuk gender. Penelitian yang dilakukan bertujuan untuk menggambarkan miskonsepsi siswa dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan bangun ruang berdasarkan gender serta faktor penyebab miskonsepsi. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan penelitian kulitatif. Sampel dalam penelitian ini merupakan siswa kelas V SD IT Mutiara Insan Sorong tahun ajaran 2019/2020 sebanyak 6 orang. Subjek dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 4 orang yang dipilih berdasarkan tes diagnostik. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes diagnostik dan wawancara untuk mengetahui penyebab miskonsepsi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa laki-laki tidak teridentifikasi miskonsepsi, sedangkan siswa perempuan teridentifikasi sebanyak 3 orang. Siswa mengalami miskonsepsi bukan pada materi bangun ruang, akan tetapi pada proses perhitungan perkalian dan pembagian. Penyebab miskonsepsi yang dialami oleh siswa adalah prakonsepsi, pemikiran asosiatif siswa sendiri, pengalaman belajar, dan kurangnya penekanan pada materi yang dibutuhkan siswa.

Abstract

Project-oriented laboratories (POLs) and project-based laboratories (PBLs) approaches have become important innovations in science education, providing more relevant learning experiences through real-world based projects. This study aims to evaluate the potential of POLs implementation in supporting science education integrated with sustainable development goals (SDGs) issues, particularly to develop creative ideas in solving environmental problems. In addition, this study also aims to identify the main challenges faced in the implementation of POLs and provide practical recommendations to optimize this approach. Through a systematic literature review based on Prisma 2020 guidelines, 34 articles from 1993 to 2024 were analyzed. The results showed that POLs are effective in improving students' technical, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. However, the integration of POLs with SDGs issues is still limited. Although some projects, such as the development of renewable energy systems, support SDG 7 (clean and affordable energy), most projects have not been strategically geared towards solving other global challenges, such as climate change mitigation (SDG 13) or waste management (SDG 12). The research identified key challenges in the implementation of POLs, including the need for technological infrastructure, intensive training for educators, and funding support. To maximize their impact, it is recommended that POLs actively integrate SDGs themes into project design and promote cross-disciplinary collaboration. This research confirms that POLs have great potential to support science education that not only results in academic achievement, but also tangible contributions to global sustainability

Abstract

Sustainable environmental awareness is essential in shaping a generation capable of facing global environmental challenges. The study aimed to map the profile of sustainable environmental awareness of primary school students in Sorong District,considering gender differences and location (urban, suburban, and rural) across three main dimensions: knowledge, attitude, and behavior. Using a survey-based quantitative approach, data we recollected from 132 students through a Likert scale questionnaire. The results showed that male students demonstrated superior conceptual understanding, while female students were more consistent in sustainable behavior. In addition, students in peripheral areas showed the highest awareness across all dimensions.Students in urban areas excelled in collective attitudes, while students in suburban areas had the low awareness. These findings indicate the need for action-based approaches to improve sustainable behavior in male students, community-based engagement for female students,and locally-based programs to increase awareness in the suburban between urban and rural regions.The study highlighted the importance of integrating sustainability education in science subjects, especially in regions with high biodiversity and complex environmental challenges. The findings provide valuable insights for teachers and policymakers in developing sustainability education programs that are contextualized and applicable in regions with similar sociology-environmental characteristics

Abstract

Despite increasing global attention to environmental issues, many elementary school students still lack adequate awareness and understanding of sustainable environmental practices. This low level of awareness poses a significant challenge to achieving long-term environmental sustainability, as early education plays a critical role in shaping pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors. This study aims to examine the effect of RADEC learning model assisted by greenhouse effect animation video on improving elementary school students' sustainable environmental awareness. Using a quasi-experimental design and pretest-posttest approach, data were collected through tests measured by logit scores before and after the intervention, which included aspects of knowledge, attitudes, behaviors, and practices related to the environment. The analysis technique used was Rasch analysis with the stacking method to evaluate changes in students' environmental awareness. The results showed that the RADEC learning model with the greenhouse effect animation video successfully improved students' sustainable environmental awareness in all measured dimensions, especially in the emotional, attitudinal and behavioral, and practice dimensions. In contrast, the control class using conventional learning showed only limited improvement, with some students even experiencing a decline in ability. These findings suggest that the use of visual media and an inquiry-based approach in RADEC is more effective in improving students' environmental awareness compared to traditional learning. Therefore, this study makes an important contribution to the development of inquiry-based learning methods and visual media in sustainability education in primary schools

Abstract

The issue of clean water availability in coastal areas remains a serious challenge, particularly due to increasing seawater intrusion, which causes groundwater to become brackish and unfit for consumption. This condition is also experienced by the community in Warmon Kokoda Village, Sorong Regency, who have long depended on well water sources with high salinity levels. This community service activity aimed to introduce and train residents in the use of single-roof solar desalination technology with a solar-powered cooling fan as an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solution for brackish water purification. The approach used was Participatory Action Research (PAR), in which the community was actively involved in socialization, learning, and hands-on practice in the manufacture and operation of the device. The results of this activity showed an increase in community knowledge about the working principles and benefits of solar desalination technology, as evidenced by the community's ability to conduct trials on the device. Technical tests showed that the device was able to reduce the salinity of brackish water from 5% to 0%, producing water suitable for consumption according to WHO standards, with good thermal efficiency for the household category. This activity had a significant impact in providing access to safe and potable water for the local community, as well as increasing independence in water resource management.

Abstract

Permasalahan sampah organik masih menjadi isu strategis dalam pembangunan berkelanjutan di Indonesia, termasuk di Kelurahan Malasom, Kabupaten Sorong, Papua Barat Daya. Rendahnya kesadaran masyarakat dan terbatasnya fasilitas pengolahan menyebabkan sampah organik rumah tangga menumpuk, menghasilkan gas metana, dan berkontribusi terhadap peningkatan emisi gas rumah kaca. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan, sikap, dan keterampilan warga dalam mengelola sampah organik melalui pembuatan ecoenzyme sebagai solusi ramah lingkungan yang mendukung aksi iklim (climate action). Metode yang digunakan adalah Participatory Action Research (PAR) yang melibatkan masyarakat secara aktif dalam setiap tahap kegiatan, mulai dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan, hingga refleksi. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada bulan Oktober 2025 dengan melibatkan delapan perwakilan warga Kelurahan Malasom. Pelatihan dilakukan secara hands-on training, di mana peserta mempraktikkan langsung pembuatan ecoenzyme dari limbah dapur seperti kulit buah dan sayuran. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan komitmen warga terhadap pengelolaan sampah organik dengan rata-rata peningkatan sebesar 75%. Meskipun kegiatan baru sampai pada tahap pembuatan dan belum menghasilkan produk ecoenzyme yang siap digunakan, peserta telah memahami prinsip fermentasi serta potensi pemanfaatannya sebagai pupuk cair organik dan cairan pembersih alami. Selain menumbuhkan kesadaran ekologis, kegiatan ini juga mendorong munculnya komitmen warga untuk berkontribusi dalam pengurangan emisi gas metana di lingkungan rumah tangga. Dengan demikian, program ini efektif sebagai model pemberdayaan masyarakat berbasis eco-literacy empowerment yang mendukung pencapaian Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) poin 13 tentang Climate Action melalui upaya pengurangan emisi gas metana dan pengelolaan limbah organik berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Sampah organik rumah tangga merupakan salah satu penyumbang terbesar emisi gas rumah kaca dan pencemaran lingkungan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kapasitas warga dalam mengelola limbah organik melalui penerapan dua model teknologi tepat guna, yaitu komposter aerob sistem ember tumpuk dan komposter aerob berbahan limbah spanduk bekas. Program dilaksanakan di Kelurahan Malasom, Distrik Aimas, Kabupaten Sorong, dengan melibatkan delapan perwakilan warga RT 002/RW 008 menggunakan pendekatan Participatory Action Research (PAR) yang mencakup tahapan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi–refleksi, dan perencanaan ulang. Pelatihan dilakukan dengan metode hands-on training yang memungkinkan peserta berpartisipasi langsung dalam pembuatan, pengoperasian, dan perawatan dua model komposter. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada seluruh indikator pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan komitmen warga terhadap pengelolaan limbah organik, dengan rata-rata peningkatan sebesar 75% dari hasil pre-test dan post-test. Peserta mampu memahami prinsip pengomposan aerobik, mengidentifikasi manfaat ekologis, serta berkomitmen untuk mengurangi praktik pembakaran sampah di rumah. Kedua model komposter dinilai efektif dan mudah direplikasi; model ember tumpuk unggul dalam efisiensi ruang, sedangkan model spanduk menjadi inovasi berbasis upcycling yang sekaligus mengurangi limbah plastik. Kegiatan ini berkontribusi langsung terhadap upaya mitigasi perubahan iklim dan penguatan ekonomi sirkular di tingkat rumah tangga, sejalan dengan Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) poin 13 (Climate Action) dan poin 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).

Abstract

Sampah organik rumah tangga masih menjadi persoalan prioritas yang berdampak pada pencemaran dan peningkatan emisi gas rumah kaca. Pengabdian ini bertujuan memperkenalkan teknologi komposter maggot ember tumpuk sebagai solusi biokonversi limbah organik skala rumah tangga sekaligus mendukung SDGs 13 (Climate Action). Kegiatan dilaksanakan di Kelurahan Malasom, Distrik Aimas, Kabupaten Sorong (Oktober 2025) dengan pendekatan Participatory Action Research (PAR), melibatkan 8 perwakilan warga RT 002/RW 008. Rangkaian kegiatan meliputi perencanaan partisipatif, pelatihan hands-on perakitan komposter dan pengelolaan larva Black Soldier Fly (BSF), evaluasi-pretest–posttest, serta refleksi untuk tindak lanjut. Empat indikator dievaluasi: pengetahuan komposter, pemahaman manfaat biokonversi, komitmen mengolah sampah di rumah, dan pemahaman kontribusi pengurangan emisi metana. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan yang nyata: pengetahuan naik 25%→100%, pemahaman manfaat 25%→100%, komitmen pengolahan 75%→100%, dan pemahaman kontribusi terhadap penurunan CH₄ 0%→100% (rata-rata peningkatan ≈75%). Peserta mampu merakit dan mengoperasikan komposter, memahami prinsip perawatan media, serta merencanakan pemantauan mandiri dan pelatihan lanjutan menuju tahap panen dan pemanfaatan frass serta larva sebagai input pertanian/pakan. Disimpulkan, model PAR dengan teknologi komposter maggot yang sederhana, murah, dan replikatif efektif meningkatkan eco-literacy, keterampilan teknis, dan komitmen warga, serta berkontribusi pada mitigasi emisi di tingkat komunitas.
