Abstract

This study aims to find the values ​​contained in the novel shown through the characterization of the characters. These characterizations are related to the values ​​that occur in the lives of the characters in the novel Simfoni Persahabatan by Fakhri Violinist. This study uses a qualitative method with a structural approach that focuses on characterization and its relationship to educational values. Data were collected through document study techniques by carefully reading the novel and noting parts related to characterization, then analyzed using content analysis techniques to draw conclusions about the values ​​and messages contained in the novel. The results of the study show that the author successfully presents the characterization of two main characters, namely Nancy who has an arrogant nature and often insults others, and Bintang who is humble and always prays to God. Through the characterization of these two characters, the author conveys various educational values ​​including the value of simplicity, the spirit of pursuing ideals, moral education such as diligent study and humility, character education regarding respect for parents and teachers, the value of hard work, responsibility, patience in facing trials, the importance of admitting mistakes and forgiveness, and friendship. This research contributes to the world of education in utilizing children's literature as a medium for character formation, and provides references in selecting reading materials that suit the needs of children's character development.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the existential meaning of toys as a symbol of children's emotional resilience in the film Toy Story 3. This Pixar film depicts the emotional journey between children and toys, which serve not only as entertainment but also as symbols of inner relationships, childhood memories, and the process of maturation. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with a symbolic and narrative analysis approach. Data were obtained through observation of scenes and dialogues of the main characters, namely Andy, Woody, and Buzz. The results show that the toys in this film represent the emotional existence of children who struggle to maintain affection, loyalty, and togetherness amidst life's changes. The scene where Andy parted with his toys culminates in an existential reflection on the meaning of loss and emotional maturity. Toy Story 3 teaches humanitarian values ​​about how humans, like toys, gain meaning in life through love, sacrifice, and togetherness. Abstract

This community service activity aims to introduce and foster appreciation for Sidoarjo's local arts and culture through a participatory educational tourism approach. The "A Day as an Artist" program is designed to provide a fun and meaningful learning experience by directly involving participants in artistic activities such as batik making, painting, playing gamelan, dancing, and enjoying miniatures and historical narratives of Sidoarjo's arts and culture at the arts and culture museum. The activity was implemented in three stages: (1) Preparation, which included mapping potential and strengthening human resource capacity; (2) Implementation, which included workshops, hands-on practice, and reflection sessions; and (3) Evaluation through questionnaires and follow-up discussions. The results of the activity indicated an increase in participants' understanding, interest, and sense of pride in local arts and culture, while also opening up opportunities for the development of sustainable arts-based educational tourism in Sidoarjo. The success of this program was supported by close collaboration between academics, artists, and the local community. This activity is recommended for replication in other regions as a strategy for cultural preservation and strengthening local identity. ABSTRAKKegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan memperkenalkan dan menumbuhkan apresiasi terhadap seni budaya lokal Sidoarjo melalui pendekatan wisata edukasi berbasis partisipasi. Program “Sehari Menjadi Seniman” dirancang untuk memberikan pengalaman belajar yang menyenangkan sekaligus bermakna, dengan melibatkan peserta secara langsung dalam aktivitas seni seperti membatik, melukis, bermain gamelan, menari, dan menikmati miniatur dan narasi sejarah seni budaya Sidoarjo di museum seni dan budaya. Pelaksanaan kegiatan dilakukan melalui tiga tahap: (1) Persiapan yang mencakup pemetaan potensi dan penguatan kapasitas SDM; (2) Pelaksanaan berupa workshop, praktik langsung, dan sesi refleksi; serta (3) Evaluasi melalui kuesioner dan diskusi tindak lanjut. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa adanya peningkatan pemahaman, ketertarikan, dan rasa bangga peserta terhadap seni budaya lokal, sekaligus terbukanya peluang pengembangan wisata edukasi berbasis seni budaya yang berkelanjutan di Sidoarjo. Keberhasilan program ini ditunjang oleh kolaborasi erat antara akademisi, pelaku seni, dan masyarakat lokal. Kegiatan ini direkomendasikan untuk direplikasi di daerah lain sebagai strategi pelestarian budaya dan penguatan identitas lokal.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan struktur dan nilai-nilai pendidikan yang terdapat dalam cerita rakyat kabupaten Jombang. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah cerita rakyat yang berkembang di Kabupaten Jombang yang sudah didokumentasikan dalam sebuah buku Inventarisasi Cerita Rakyat Jombang jilid dua oleh Mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui baca dan catat. Teknik analisis data menggunakan Teknik reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan simpulan. Hasil penelitian ini didapatkan bahwa dalam cerita rakyat Jombang yang terkandung di buku Inventarisasi Cerita Rakyat Jombang Jilid dua memiliki struktur intrinsik dari tema, alur, tokoh, latar dan amanat, sedangkan nilai-nilai pendidikan yang terkandung dalam cerita Rakyat Kabupaten Jombang meliputi, nilai pendidikan moral, nilai pendidikan budaya, nilai pendidikan religius, nilai pendidikan sejarah, nilai kepahlawanan  atau semangat perjuangan.

Abstract

This study examines the values of empathy and friendship in Andrea Hirata’s children’s literary works, particularly Laskar Pelangi and Ayah, and their relevance to children’s character development. Children’s literature serves as an educational medium that instills moral and social values through relatable stories. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis. Data representing empathy and friendship values were analyzed using the empathy theory (Eisenberg & Strayer, 1990) and children’s social development theory (Santrock, 2018). The results show that Andrea Hirata’s works are rich in empathy and friendship values reflected in the characters Ikal, Lintang, Mahar, and Sabari. These values promote social awareness, solidarity, and humanity, aligning with Lickona’s (2014) concept of character education. Andrea Hirata’s works not only possess aesthetic value but also serve as effective learning materials for character-based Indonesian language education.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk dapat menganalisis fungsi dan motif tindakan pelaku dalam cerita rakyat Aji Saka. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori struktur naratologi yang dikembangkan oleh Vladimir Propp. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan studi pustaka untuk mengungkap fungsi dan motif tindakan pelaku dari cerita rakyat Aji Saka.Penelitian ini menghasilkan penyebaran fungsi dan motif tankman pelaku dalam cerita rakyat Aji Saka yang terdapat dua lingkungan tindakan, yaitu lingkungan tindakan penjahat dan lingkungan tindakan penolong. Penemuan-penemuan lingkungan tindakan tersebut dapat mengungkapkan motif tindakan pelaku yang membentuk kekuasaan dalam cerita, sehingga ditemukan motif-motif tindakan yang meliputi kekuasaan, kepatuhan, tipu daya dan kepercayaan dalam cerita rakyat Aji Saka.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengangkat nilai pendidikan dalam novel Ayat-ayat Cinta karya Habiburahman El Shirazy dalam perspektif strukturasi Giddens. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan datanya menggunakan teknik baca, catat, dan teknik studi pustaka. Teori yang digunakan yakni teori stukturasi Giddens. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada tiga dimensi strukturasi dalam pandangan Giddens yang dapat mengungkap nilai pendidikan dalam novel Ayat-ayat Cinta, yaitu pertama, pemehaman terhadap suatu peristiwa yang memunculkan banyak nilai pendidikan diantaranya nilai pendidikan religus dengan taat untuk menjalankan shalat berjamaah dan di awal waktu. Kedua, moralitas atau arahan yang tepat untuk berbuat sesuatu dapat mengungkap nilai pendidikan menolong orang lain yang membutuhkan dan mau berkorban demi kebahagiaan orang lain, meskipun harus mengorbankan kebahagiaan dirinya tanpa memandang perbedaan suku, agama, dan budaya. Ketiga, kekuasaan dalam bertindak/cara agen mencapai suatu keinginan yang mengungkapkan nilai pendidikan multikultural yakni saling menghormati sesama manusia tanpa memandang perbedaan suku, bangsa, dan budaya.

Abstract

This research was initiated by the lecturers’ difficulties in presenting fun learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study aimed to determine the improvement of students' abilities in learning Sociolinguistics during the Covid-19 pandemic by applying STAD Type Cooperative Model implemented through the Breakoutroom Zoom Application. This application facilitated lecturers to divide students in one class into small or large groups and they could still monitor the progress of the discussion. Utilizing Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) model in the Breakoutroom Zoom application aimed to achieve a good learning process. This research was a Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles: Cycle I and Cycle II. This research was carried out in four stages: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The object of this research was the sociolinguistics learning and the research subjects were the fourth semester students of Indonesian Language and Literature Education at the Faculty of Education, Hasyim Asy'ari University. There were 16 students consistinf of 4 male and 12 female students. The data were calculated quantitatively and analyzed qualitatively. Based on the results of the research, it was found that there was an increase in the Sociolinguistic learning after implementing STAD type cooperative learning model which was carried out online through the Breakoutroom Zoom application in cycle I and II. The increase was marked by an increase of the students’ score obtained in each cycle.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' responses to learning to read narrative text comprehension using the KWLA strategy (What I Already Know, What I Want to Know, What I Learned, and The Affect of the Story). A collecting data in this study used a questionnaire in the form Unstructured questionnaires and interviews The results of the data were obtained and analyzed quantitatively qualitatively The data generated in the form of numbers were then described Based on the results of the study, it was found that aspects 1 to 5 that contained responses of students' interest in learning thus obtained by 90.4% included in the category very good.In aspects 6 to 10 which contain student responses to ease in understanding and learning the material obtained a percentage of 89.1% included in the very good category.In aspects 11 to 13 which contain student responses in the activity and courage to express opinions in the learning process a percentage of 87 is obtained , 9% in the category of very good, and aspects 14 to 15 which contain responses to the ease of students in concluding learning activities get an average percentage of 90.2% included in the very good category. This shows that the KWLA strategy is able to increase student interest in efforts to improve reading comprehension skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the application of Augmented Reality technology. Reality (AR) in improving the short story writing skills of high school students, who still face obstacles in developing ideas, narrative structure, and learning motivation. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test. control group This design involved 60 eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Jombang. Data were collected through short story writing tests, motivational questionnaires, and interviews, and analyzed using paired- reference tests. sample t- test, independent t- test, and effect The results showed that the experimental group using AR experienced a significant increase compared to the control group, with an average score increase of 25.95% compared to 7.05%. Statistical tests showed a significant difference (p < 0.05) with an effect The size of the medium-high category. In addition, students' learning motivation in the experimental group was higher (8.5/10) than in the control group (6/10). These findings indicate that AR effectively improves the quality of short story writing in terms of ideas, narrative structure, and language style, as well as increasing student engagement in learning. This study contributes to the development of technology-based writing learning models by systematically integrating AR into the writing process. The limitations of the study lie in the limited duration of the intervention and the narrow sample scope. Future research is recommended to test the implementation of AR on a wider scale and over a longer period.
