Abstract

Performing treatment for diastema closure of the maxillary anterior teeth is a challenge for dentists. They are required to do the best possible treatment and are faced with various treatment options, such as direct and indirect restorations. A 32-year-old female patient came to the dental clinic with complaints of a space of her front teeth. The patient wanted her teeth to be fixed. She wanted the space between her teeth to be closed. On clinical examination it was found that there was a diastema between 11 and 21 with vital and healthy condition without any caries lesion. We perform the gingivectomy on the gingival margin of 11 and made the porcelain labial veneer restorations. The gingivectomy was planned to obtain a more aesthetic and symmetrical margin compared to 21. The porcelain labial veneer restorations chosen to be inserted to the patient. The restorations have adapted well to the teeth and soft tissues. Porcelain labial veneer treatment as an indirect restoration is one of the options for the cases of diastema closure of the maxillary central incisors due to their good aesthetic appearance.

Abstract

Kesehatan gigi dan mulut yang baik merupakan faktor penting dalam tumbuh kembang anak. Berdasarkan data RISKESDAS tahun 2018 prevalensi karies gigi pada anak usia 5-9 tahun sebesar 93%. Hal tersebut membuktikan bahwa kondisi kesehatan gigi pada anak-anak masih sangat buruk sehingga dapat mengganggu tumbuh kembang anak secara umum. Keadaan ini dapat diperbaiki dengan adanya edukasi tentang kesehatan gigi dan mulut sedini mungkin, dan dapat dilakukan pemberian aplikasi topikal fluoride untuk mencegah terjadinya karies. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi kesehatan gigi dan topikal aplikasi fluoride kepada siswa di TK IT Insan Madani Kebon Pala, Jakarta Timur. Metode yang digunakan meliputi penyuluhan kesehatan gigi, pelatihan teknik menyikat gigi yang benar dan sikat gigi bersama, serta topikal aplikasi fluoride. Hasil yang didapatkan menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan anak tentang pentingnya menjaga kesehatan gigi dari 54,1% kategori baik menjadi 100%.

Abstract

Introduction: Adolescents are unique individuals who go through different phases of psychological development and identity from childhood to adulthood. In this period, adolescents have an important part in their lives, namely self-confidence. This can be seen when the teenager begins to pay attention to the condition of his teeth and smile. Objectives: This research was conducted to examine the relationship between the perception of the aesthetics of teeth and smile with the self-confidence of adolescents in Jakarta by using a random sampling research method. Material and Methods: This research is quantitative with a cross-sectional study. Results: The results indicate that there are still many teenagers in Jakarta who feel less confident about the aesthetics of their teeth and smile. Discussion: A significant positive correlation was found between perception of dental and smile aesthetics and adolescent self-confidence, with females showing greater concern for appearance. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the perception of the aesthetics of teeth and smile affects the self-confidence of the teenager.

Abstract

Introduction. Adolescents are unique individuals who are in transition to adulthood. At this time, adolescents have a desire to have an attractive appearance. Teenagers also tend to have a habit of smoking, drinking coffee or tea. These habits can reduce the beauty of teeth due to tooth discolouration. Currently, the availability of over-the-counter teeth whitening products is increasing. In order not to be easily influenced by the promotion of teeth whitening products, every community, especially adolescents, should have good perceptions and knowledge about teeth whitening treatments. There are various media in conveying information, including audiovisual media. This study aims to assess perceptions and knowledge about teeth whitening treatment before and after being given education with audiovisual media. Materials and Methods. Data were collected from 200 adolescents aged 18-24 years through electronic questionnaires. The study was conducted by pre-test and post-test on the respondents who had been divided into control group (poster) and intervention group (video).Results. There was an increase in the percentage of adolescents who had good perceptions and knowledge about teeth whitening treatment after being given education. There was no difference in perception before and after the intervention but there was a significant increase in knowledge in the provision of education with audiovisual media. Conclusion. Audiovisual media is effective in improving adolescents' perceptions and knowledge of teeth whitening treatments.

Abstract

Background: Dental and oral health is a healthy condition of hard tissue and soft tissue, and stunting is a problem of malnutrition, which is quite high in Indonesia, namely 37.2% in 2013 and 30.8% in 2018. Objective: This article aims to create a guide for parents of toddlers on how to maintain children's dental health at home, with the hope of contributing to reducing the prevalence of Early Childhood Caries and stunting in toddlers in Indonesia. Methods: The library sources for this article were obtained from several valid literature based on the author's expertise and compiled with theory or research from several journals published by Elsevier, Oxford University Press, Blackwell Munksgaard, Google Scholar, and Pubmed. Results: Nutritional problems are caused by several factors, both directly and indirectly, which are interrelated. Nutrition and oral health have a reciprocal relationship that influences each other. Proper nutrition is needed to maintain healthy teeth and mouth and healthy teeth and mouth to get adequate nutritional intake. Conclusion: Parents, especially mothers, play a key role in maintaining children's dental health and preventing stunting because toddlers cannot yet effectively clean their teeth.
