Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic caused a significant decline in international tourist arrivals to Indonesia, severelyimpacting the country’s tourism sector. In response, cultural promotion has emerged as a strategic tool in publicdiplomacy to aid economic recovery and attract foreign visitors, particularly from Russia. This study evaluates theeffectiveness of Indonesia’s cultural promotion efforts in Russia in revitalizing the tourism sector post-pandemic. Aqualitative case study approach was employed, utilizing document analysis and secondary sources from theMinistry of Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The findings reveal that Indonesia’s cultural promotioninitiatives—such as festivals, exhibitions, and digital media campaigns—have successfully generated interestamong Russian tourists. These programs have enhanced Indonesia’s visibility and cultural appeal, contributing to agradual increase in Russian tourist arrivals. However, challenges remain, including budget limitations, shiftinggeopolitical dynamics, and competition from other destinations. Despite these obstacles, public diplomacy plays avital role in shaping Indonesia’s international image, fostering bilateral relations, and supporting economic growththrough tourism. To further enhance the impact of cultural promotion, this study recommends strengtheninginstitutional collaboration between tourism and diplomatic agencies, optimizing digital-based promotionalstrategies, and diversifying cultural diplomacy initiatives to reach a broader audience. With the right policies andstrategic implementation, cultural promotion can serve as a key catalyst for the recovery of Indonesia’s tourismsector, ensuring long-term sustainability and economic resilience in the post-pandemic era.

Abstract

This article examines the United Nations' (UN) intervention in East Timor, highlighting its success as a model of international peacekeeping in the context of internal conflict. The study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive analysis method, drawing on a literature review of various secondary sources, including UN reports, scholarly journals, and previous research. The study examines three primary aspects: the international context and the foundations of intervention based on peacekeeping and the Responsibility to Protect (R2P); the perspectives of the East Timorese community regarding the UN intervention; and an evaluation of peacekeeping missions, including UNAMET, UNTAET, and UNMIT. The findings reveal that while the UN operations in East Timor were generally successful in supporting the transition to independence and creating stability, challenges in achieving sustainable development and empowering local communities remain significant tasks. This study highlights the importance of adopting a responsive approach to local contexts to ensure the sustainability of peace. The experience in East Timor offers strategic insights for the implementation of future international peacekeeping missions.

Abstract

Globalization has significantly influenced various aspects of Indonesian society, particularly through innovations in information and communication technology. This study aims to analyze the impact of globalization on cultural identity and consumerism in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, the research collected data through document analysis, participatory observations, and documentation from relevant sources. The study was conducted in major cities such as Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya to explore global cultural phenomena, including Japanese culture (Cosplay) and South Korean culture (K-Pop). The findings reveal that the development of information technology, such as the internet and social media, facilitates access to foreign products and cultures. While this has positive effects, such as the convenience of shopping through e-commerce platforms, it also poses challenges, including the gradual erosion of local culture due to the influence of foreign phenomena like Cosplay from Japan and the K-Pop craze from South Korea. These phenomena highlight the challenges Indonesian society faces in preserving local cultural identity amidst the strong currents of globalization.

Abstract

China‘s development cannot be denied as a remarkable success since open and reform policy took place in 1978. China has shifted from a centrally-planned to a market- based Economy and has experienced rapid economic and social development. GDP growth has averaged nearly 10 percent a year—the fastest sustained expansion by a major economy in history. During two decades of its reform, numerous policies were implemented in China such as Household Responsibility System (HSR), Township and Village Enterprises (TVEs), and Special Economic Zones (SEZs). These policies have been critical for China‘s rapid development. As China's economic grow, China becomes one of the countries with an economic model that can serve as an example for others. But can a similar development model be applied to another country? This paper tries to examine the developments happening in China during two decades of its reform if it is particular or universal?

Abstract

The United States military intervention in the 2011 Syrian conflict has sparked controversy in the international community. Some parties support the military intervention, viewing it as an effective way to protect civilians, reduce violence, and support opposition groups fighting against the Assad government. However, others oppose the military intervention, viewing it as an action that can increase the number of civilian casualties, escalate tensions between nations, worsen the humanitarian situation in the region, and create an environment that fosters terrorism. This research aims to analyze the reasons and impacts of the United States military intervention in the 2011 Syrian conflict from a positive and negative perspective. The method used is a literature review, collecting data from various sources such as academic journals, books, online articles, and other related sources. The research shows that the United States military intervention in Syria was triggered by political and economic interests and has both positive and negative consequences. Positively, the intervention was able to provide protection for civilians, reduce violence, and support opposition groups. However, there were negative impacts such as an increase in the number of civilian casualties, escalation of tensions between nations, worsening of the humanitarian situation in the region, and the creation of an environment that fosters terrorism.
