Abstract

Extraction of a plant in traditional medicine is a very crucial stage for the success of the treatment. For example, nangka kuning (Vincetoxicum villosum (Blume) Kuntze) which has been scientifically researched, its leaves are extracted with ethanol solvent using the maceration method. Meanwhile, by local people, nangka kuning leaves are processed by boiling using water. This attracted the attention of researchers to re-analyze the content of secondary metabolites in nangka kuning leaf extract made with different solvents and methods. Researchers carried out the extraction using water with heating (infusion), ethanol without heating (maceration) and chloroform without heating (maceration). The results obtained from the three types of extracts contained secondary metabolites of alkaloids in the three extracts. While steroids are only found in extracts with a water solvent. Then the tannins are found in the extract with water and ethanol as solvents. Negative results from the three extracts were shown for secondary metabolites of flavonoids and saponins. So it can be concluded that nangka kuning leaf extract which has the most optimal secondary metabolite is the extract using water as a solvent by heating.

Abstract

Indonesia is already facing a high nutritional problem. Early detection of child wasting is the key to successful prevention and treatment. Increasing animal protein intake for children is one of the government's steps to address child malnutrition. Consumption of fortified milk as one of the animal proteins may support the growth and development of children. The general purpose of this community service is to increase the knowledge and the implementation of dairy products to improve child immunity and growth. This community service activity was carried out at the Sidodadi village hall, Central Bengkulu in 2021. Participants in the community service activity were maternal and child village health workers, plus representatives from the Puskesmas and village officials with a total of 32 participants. The methods used are socializing information, questions and answers with participants based on experience and field findings, providing materials related to sources of milk food ingredients and their fortification, carrying out copyright quizzes on milk-based healthy food recipes, and monitoring with evaluation. Evaluation sheets are used to assess participant satisfaction and record things that are still needed by cadres for further socialization activities. The performance test was carried out with a quiz on preparing healthy milk-based food recipes for children. Activity results are described with a satisfaction survey. Increasing education through health counseling greatly influences the knowledge of village health worker to be wise in providing education on fortified milk-based foods and providing examples of useful recipes for malnourished children.

Abstract

Introduction: The use of lipstick, blush-on, and various colored cosmetic products is highly popular among teenage girls. However, the adverse effects of hazardous colorants in cosmetics include respiratory irritations, skin irritations, eye injuries, gastrointestinal toxicity, and carcinogenic properties. Red Dragon Fruit contains a significant amount of red anthocyanin antioxidants, making it a viable natural colorant for food, cosmetics, and textiles. This community engagement project aimed to enhance the understanding of teenage girls, especially students of MAN 1 Model City of Bengkulu, regarding illegal cosmetics containing harmful and prohibited ingredients. It also aimed to improve the girls' skills in crafting natural Lip Tint and Blush-On preparations from Red Dragon Fruit (Hylocereus Polyrhizus), promoting a return to nature in cosmetic choices. This initiative was expected to inspire creative ideas among teenagers for designing alternative economic activities centered on producing natural and halal cosmetics made from herbal ingredients. Methods: The project involved educational and awareness-raising activities about the dangers of forbidden cosmetic ingredients, followed by workshops on making Lip Tint and Blush-On formulations. These workshops were led by faculty members from the School of Medicine and the School of Pharmacy, with assistance from students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Bengkulu. Results: Evaluation results showed that workshop participants experienced a 63.2% increased in knowledge and gained the ability to independently create Lip Tint and Blush-On products from red dragon fruit.
