Abstract

Inflammation is the human bodys response to a tissue damage as indicated by an increase of vascular permeability. One of the natural substances that can be used to treat inflammation is clove oil (MABC). This study aimed to evaluate the physical properties and MABC emulgel irritation test (Syzygium aromaticum). This experimental study was initiated by the emulgel formulation with three kinds of formula, with each formula contains MABC levels of 10% (F1), 12.5% (F2), and 15% (F3). The physical tests for emulgel was done including pH, spreading test and adhesive test and irritation test in guinea pigs using Draize test method. Statistical analysis by t test with a level of confidence 95% was conducted to detect a significant differences between the treatment groups. The emulgel formula with a concentration of 10%, 12.5% and 15% were physically stable, moreover the dispersive power test for each formula showed normal distribution data (p>0.05) and homogeneous (p>0.05), ANOVA test results obtained significantly different results in each formula (p<0.05), whereas the stickiness test results for each formula more than 30 minutes with pH 6. The results of irritation test by using Draize test  method, indicated that each formula did not show any irritant effect.

Abstract

The Farmers group (Poktan) in Rindu Hati Village, Central Bengkulu Regency, Bengkulu Province is one of the groups that received guidance from University of Bengkulu in papaya cultivation. This Community Service Activity (PPM) was aimed to provide skill in formulated MAS DUPA (Papaya Leaf Mask) for Rindu Hati Village . This activity was carried out on August 9, 2021 with 25 participants. The methods used in this PPM activity are debriefing theory, discussion, demonstration and practice. The results were evaluated using a questionnaire in the form of question sheet and satisfaction survey to measure the level of satisfaction and understanding of participants about theory and practices that provided by the service team. The question sheet consists of 10 questions given before and after activity. The results were showed that increases participant understanding which indicated by increases in the average quiz score of participants from 79.38 to 92.5. For the results of satisfaction survey, it can be seen that 68% are very satisfied, 32% are satisfied and 0% are less satisfied and dissatisfied. This activity is expected to help poktan in optimizing the processing of papaya cultivation and can increase their economy.

Abstract

One of the self-medication efforts that can be done by the community is the use of Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA). This Community Service activity was aimed to increase knowledge of the Family Welfare Program (PKK) group in Sumur Dewa, Bengkulu City about TOGA processing. The method was used in this activity is lecture and discussion. This service activity was carried out on September 21th, 2018. The results of questionnaire were showed that 50 of participants were 100% had known and planted TOGA in their home gardens, 72% had known the benefits of TOGA, 56% had known how to use TOGA. TOGA processing and 44% do not know how to process TOGA due to limited knowledge. From the implementation of this activity, it can be found that increases in the knowledge of the Sumur Dewa Village PKK group about TOGA after the activity.

Abstract

Background : Exposure to UV rays from the sun can damage the lip keratin cells which protect the lips. The cosmetic used to moisturize the lips is lip balm. One of the natural ingredients that contain high antioxidants are Kalamansi oranges and rosella flowers. This study aims to make Lip Balm preparations with a concentration of F1 4% of calamansi orange juice, F2 with a concentration of 5% of rosella flower extract, F3 with a combination of calamansi orange juice and rosella flower extract. Flower extraction was obtained by maceration using ethanol. The experimental method was used in this study, and the physical stability of the lip balm was carried out for approximately 4 weeks. The results of testing the physical properties of the calamansi citrus juice and rosella flower extract have a homogeneous composition, have a pH range of 6.0-6.3, have a melting point of 51-54 ℃, and are stable in storage for 28 days, that is, there is no change on texture, aroma, taste, and color. Has a percent increase in lip moisture F0, F1, F2, and F3 respectively, namely 48.5%, 59.1%, 130.7%, and 136.4%. In this study, continued with the analysis using SPSS version 24, the value of p <0.05 was obtained at 84 hours. The conclusion is that calamansi orange juice and rosella flower extract can be formulated in the manufacture of lip balm with various concentrations.

Abstract

Pada umumnya obat-obatan dikonsumsi untuk meningkatkan kesehatan serta pencegahan suatu penyakit. Akan tetapi, saat ini masyarakat masih sering melakukan kesalahan dalam mendapatkan, menggunakan, menyimpan, dan membuang obat secara benar. Hal ini dapat mengakibatkan hal-hal yang tidak diinginkan terjadi saat masa pengobatan, seperti obat yang tidak bekerja maksimal, penggunaan yang tidak tepat, penyimpanan yang tidak benar, dan pembuangan obat yang sembarangan. Salah satu cara untuk mencegah kesalahan atau penyalahgunaan penggunaan obat adalah dengan melakukan sosialisasi kesehatan melalui DAGUSIBU (Dapatkan, Gunakan, Simpan, Buang). Kegiatan sosialisasi ini memiliki tujuan agar meningkatkan wawasan dan pemahaman siswa mengenai penggunaan obat yang bijak pada siswa SMP Negeri 11 Kecamatan Muara Bangka Hulu, Kota Bengkulu. Metode pada kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan sosialisasi dan pemberian leaflet berisi informasi mengenai DAGUSIBU serta pengambilan data dilakukan dengan menyebarkan kuesioner kepada 30 responden. Hasil kegiatan sosialisasi ini menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan telah terlaksana secara baik, terbukti dari antusiasme dan respon siswa dalam mengikuti kegiatan, aktif bertanya, dan berpartisipsi dalam diskusi, serta peningkatan pengetahuan siswa tentang cara membeli, menggunakan, menyimpan, dan membuang obat yang tepat dan aman. Penyuluhan materi mengenai DAGUSIBU sangat memberikan pengetahuan yang berarti bagi anak remaja di SMP Negeri 11 Kota Bengkulu. Dimana persentase pretes yang didapatkan sebelum dilakukannya penyuluhan yaitu 42,4% yang artinya masih terdapat lebih dari setengah dari jumlah siswa-siswi yang belum mengerti tentang DAGUSIBU. Sedangkan, persentase postes yang didapatkan setelah dilakukannya penyuluhan yaitu 93%.

Abstract

Excessive exposure to sunlight can adversely affect the skin and cause various kinds of skin problems. Agarwood leaf extract (Aquilaria malaccensis Lam) contains flavonoid compounds that can protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays. This study aims to formulate a cream from the ethanol extract of agarwood leaves (Aquilaria malaccensis Lam) which can be used as a sunscreen cream. In this study, a cream formula was prepared from ethanol extract of agarwood leaves with 3 variations of different concentrations of the extract, namely F1 2% extract of agarwood leaves, F2 4% extract of agarwood leaves and F3 8% extract of agarwood leaves. Homogeneity tests, pH tests, spreadability tests, adhesion tests, and SPF tests. The results showed that F2 with an extract concentration of 4% was the best formula with a pH of 7.11; spreadability of 6.0 cm; adhesive power of 4.9 seconds and SPF value of 39.22 which is the maximum category as a sunscreen.

Abstract

Extraction of a plant in traditional medicine is a very crucial stage for the success of the treatment. For example, nangka kuning (Vincetoxicum villosum (Blume) Kuntze) which has been scientifically researched, its leaves are extracted with ethanol solvent using the maceration method. Meanwhile, by local people,nangka kuning leaves are processed by boiling using water. This attracted the attention of researchers to re-analyze the content of secondary metabolites in nangka kuning leaf extract made with different solvents and methods. Researchers carried out the extraction using water with heating (infusion), ethanol without heating (maceration) and chloroform without heating (maceration). The results obtained from the three types of extracts contained secondary metabolites of alkaloids in the three extracts. While steroids are only found in extracts with a water solvent. Then the tannins are found in the extract with water and ethanol as solvents. Negative results from the three extracts were shown for secondary metabolites of flavonoids and saponins. So it can be concluded that nangka kuning leaf extract which has the most optimal secondary metabolite is the extract using water as a solvent by heating.

Abstract

Indonesia dikenal sebagai produsen kopi terbesar ketiga di dunia setelah Brasil dan Vietnam. Kopi Robusta dan Arabika merupakan jenis kopi paling populer di Indonesia. Setiap jenis kopi memiliki kandungan flavonoid yang berbeda. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan tingkat flavonoid dalam kopi robusta dan arabika yang dipanggang menggunakan metode spektrofotometri UV-Vis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan secara kualitatif, biji kopi robusta dan arabika mengandung senyawa flavonoid dengan penambahan reagen magnesium dan asam hidroklorida. Tingkat flavonoid yang dihasilkan dalam biji kopi robusta dan arabika adalah 5.789% dan 3.064% secara berturut-turut. Kesimpulannya adalah kandungan flavonoid dalam biji kopi robusta lebih tinggi daripada biji kopi arabika

Abstract

Pengabdian ini memiliki tujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan anak dalam memanfaatkan limbah minyak jelantah. Sebanyak 10 orang anak di Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak (LPKA) Kelas II Bengkulu merupakan subjek pengabdian. Pengabdian dilaksanakan pada tanggal 25 Juli 2024. Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) dipilih sebagai metode untuk pelaksanaan kegiatan pengabdian yang terdiri dari 5 langkah yaitu:discovery, dream, design, define, dan destiny. Dari hasil kegiatan diketahui bahwa nilai rerata pengetahuan peserta sebelum dilaksanakan pengabdian adalah sebesar 5,0; nilai rerata pengetahuan peserta setelah dilaksanakan pengabdian adalah sebesar 8,5. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa kegiatan pengabdian ini dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan anak dalam membuat sabun dari limbah minyak jelantah.
