Abstract

In general, junior high school students view mathematics as a difficult and boring subject. In addition to students, teachers also experience difficulties in delivering material, including time constraints in delivering quite a lot of material, and a lack of student interest in learning mathematics when using conventional learning methods such as from textbooks and explanations from the teacher. With these considerations, the proposer wants to apply knowledge and technology by making mathematics learning media tutorials so that they can increase understanding and attract students' interest in learning and help improve the quality of mathematics education and teaching. The result achieved is that community service for active learning and ICT should be reproduced because there are still many schools that have not implemented it. Meanwhile, from the progress of the times, namely Industry 4.0, ICT-based learning is very much needed.

Abstract

This article presents the results of a community empowerment project aimed at revitalizing local tourism at Swembath Natural Springs in Naga Soppa, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra. Faced with declining visitor numbers and the need to boost local economic activity, this project integrated competitive swimming events as a new attraction while fostering sustainable development. The construction of an international-standard swimming pool served as the foundation for this initiative, offering a venue for sports tourism that attracts both athletes and recreational visitors. The project also included comprehensive training for local businesses, focusing on tourism management, digital marketing, and service improvement, thereby empowering the community to capitalize on the influx of tourists. The results show a significant increase in visitor numbers during swimming competitions, positively impacting local businesses such as food vendors, craft sellers, and accommodation providers. Moreover, the project fostered environmental conservation efforts, ensuring that the natural beauty of Swembath is preserved for future generations. This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in terms of economic empowerment and environmental sustainability. The community now possesses the tools and infrastructure needed to maintain Swembath as a competitive tourist destination, with a sustainable model that benefits both the environment and the local economy. The project's success highlights the potential of integrating sports tourism and community-based empowerment to foster long-term economic growth and environmental stewardship.

Abstract

Education in rural areas faces challenges such as limited access to technology and outdated teaching methods, hindering student engagement and learning outcomes. This study implements a Smart Classroom initiative at SD Negeri 173637 Narumonda, North Sumatra, aiming to improve educational quality through digital tools and interactive teaching in line with Society 5.0 principles. The project began with observations and a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to assess the school’s readiness. Findings revealed limited technological resources and low teacher proficiency in digital tools but high enthusiasm from students and a positive attitude from teachers. The initiative introduced Android TVs, sound systems, and teacher training on digital pedagogy and Moodle-based e-learning. Initial results show increased student engagement and improved teacher confidence in using technology, despite concerns about sustainability and curriculum adaptation. The program demonstrates the potential of collaboration between educational institutions and communities in transforming rural education. It serves as a scalable model for addressing educational disparities and aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on quality education.
