Abstract

The background to this research is the importance of finding an integration pattern between the project learning model and Ethno-STEM based inquiry to explain scientific knowledge regarding the aroma of herbal tea.  The fundamental research objective is to design an integration pattern for the project and Ethno-STEM learning model and reconstruct scientific knowledge based on public knowledge of the aromatic volatile compounds of Indonesian and world herbal teas. This research method and approach is mixed research. This qualitative approach is to find the integration of the project learning model and Ethno-STEM (Ethno-STEM PjLM) and its syntax. A quantitative approach regarding analyzing tea aroma volatile compounds using an Arduino gas sensor: research data from literature studies, interviews, reconstruction, and data on identifying volatile compounds in the aroma of herbal tea analyzed descriptively, qualitatively, and quantitatively. The results of the research concluded: (1) the reconstruction and integration pattern between PjLM Ethno-STEM is an integrated pattern with SUDARMIN syntax, (2) the reconstruction of scientific knowledge based on public knowledge regarding the process of isolation, extraction, and bioactivity of secondary metabolites, (3) herbal tea aroma volatiles compounds are identified by Arduino sensor: carbon dioxide, methane, propane, butane, acetone, alcohol, and ester, (4) the implementation of Ethno-STEM PjLM received a positive response from students.

Abstract

Abstract

Perkembangan kecerdasan buatan (Artificial Intelligence/AI) membuka peluang besar bagi inovasi pembelajaran STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) berbasis Problem-Based Learning (PBL). The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has opened significant opportunities for innovation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education through Problem-Based Learning (PBL). In general, teachers continue to face challenges in integrating this technology into classroom practice, particularly those working in regions located farther from urban centers, even though educational facilities have begun to improve. Limited understanding and skills within the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework remain key factors hindering the effective use of AI in teaching and learning. To address these needs, a training program was designed to strengthen teachers’ TPACK in implementing AI-integrated STEM-PBL, thereby enhancing teaching quality and supporting Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education). The program consisted of interactive workshops, hands-on activities, and mentoring, with the involvement of university students to foster collaboration between higher education institutions and schools. Questionnaire results indicated that all participants found the training useful in helping them to understand the application of TPACK and STEM-PBL, while 80% reported improvement in their TPACK skills and increased their confidence in using AI for their job as a teacher. These findings demonstrate the importance of systematic training in equipping teachers with AI-integrated STEM-PBL competencies and advancing technology-driven educational transformation in secondary schools. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Engineering Design Project learning model based on Ethno-ESD in actualizing sustainable environmental literacy in Chemistry Education students. The method used was a quasi-experiment with the design of the One-Shot Case Study involving 46 fifth-semester students. The environmental literacy measurement instrument which includes the aspects of Sustainability Environmental, Sustainability Social, and Sustainability Economic was validated using Aiken's V analysis. After Ethno-ESD learning was applied, the test result data was analyzed through normality, homogeneity, and one-way ANOVA tests to determine the effectiveness of the treatment. The results show that all data are distributed normally and homogeneously, thus qualifying parametric analysis. The ANOVA test produced a value of F = 20.365 with a significance of 0.000, which indicates that the Ethno-ESD learning model has a significant effect on improving students' sustainable environmental literacy. This finding confirms that the integration of local wisdom with the principles of Education for Sustainable Development is able to improve students' knowledge, attitudes, and sustainable behaviors in the context of environmental chemistry learning. The Ethno-ESD model is recommended as an innovative approach to strengthen sustainable environmental literacy in higher education.

Abstract

Implementing scientific inquiry as a learning approach has accounted for most discussion topics and research areas in science education. Numerous studies have been conducted for decades; therefore, synthesizing the updated results will be worthwhile. Diverse needs require effective implementation of the vision of scientific inquiry for scientists, and various forms of learning output pose a challenge for scholars to provide a systematic summary of evidence regarding its role in science teaching and learning. Therefore, the random effect model was suitable for this paper to capture the impact of scientific inquiry on science learning comprehensively. A meta-analysis study using a random-effects model was chosen to systematically synthesize 22 academic articles gathered from the Scopus and Web of Science indexing databases. An individual paper was first extracted for its sample size, mean, and corresponding standard deviation, which were then calculated to measure the effect size of each piece of evidence using the JASP program. In summary, we highlight the positive and moderate impact of scientific investigation on student learning outcomes as a promising approach to enhancing science learning. This study fills the gap in the previous literature by providing a cross-cultural systematic synthesis of Indonesian and non-Indonesian literature, as well as comprehensively measuring the effects of scientific inquiry interventions. These findings support scientific inquiry as a promising approach to learning and encourage the sustainability of efforts to enhance the quality of science learning in various educational contexts.
