Abstract

Abstract

The present article aims to explore the contextualization of theology in thedevelopment of the church in East Asia, focusing on the interaction betweenthe teachings of the Gospel and local traditional belief systems. The approachused in this study is a qualitative method. Our findings in this study suggestthat churches in East Asia attempt to integrate fundamental Christianteachings and adapt to local cultural needs and customs. The research foundthat despite efforts to create worship that is more relevant to local cultures, churches are still careful not to mix Christian teachings with traditions thatcould undermine the core teachings of the faith. In addition, the research alsofound that there is a difficulty in finding a balance between liturgicalinnovation and maintaining the holiness of Christian teachings. Too muchadaptation to local cultural elements can lead to a loss of authentic Christianidentity, while too little adaptation can make Christianity difficult to beaccepted by society. To deal with this kind of conflict, churches in East Asiahave endeavored to develop theologies rooted in their local traditions. In thisway, churches in East Asia seek to create a deeper understanding of how thegospel can interact with the social, cultural and spiritual needs of localcommunities. One of the important findings of this study is also theimportance of active congregational participation in the contextualizationprocess. This congregational participation and diologetics help local churchesto be more sensitive to existing social and cultural dynamics, as well as makea greater contribution in determining relevant forms of worship and teaching. This includes the avoidance of practices that could lead to syncretism, i.e. themixing of Christian teachings with traditional elements that are contrary tothe Christian faith.

Abstract

The Role of Christian Religious Education Teachers in Shaping Students’ Character Based on Deuteronomy 6:7-9 The role of Christian Religious Education (CATE) teachers in shaping students' character is pivotal in the context of moral and spiritual education. This paper elucidates how Deuteronomy 6:7-9, which directs parents to educate their children in the ways of the Lord, can be applied within the formal education setting. Deuteronomy 6:7-9 emphasizes the importance of continuously educating children about God’s laws, both at home and in school. In this regard, CATE teachers play a key role as educational agents who help convey spiritual and moral values to students. CATE teachers have the responsibility not only to impart knowledge of the Christian faith but also to guide students in understanding and internalizing the moral values inherent in God's teachings. Through consistent and directed instruction, CATE teachers can help shape students' character in accordance with the principles outlined in Deuteronomy 6:7-9. In the modern education context, CATE teachers also serve as exemplary models in living out Christian values in everyday life. By being consistent and authentic examples, CATE teachers can inspire students to develop strong and responsible characters in line with God's teachings. Thus, this paper concludes that the role of CATE teachers in shaping students' character based on Deuteronomy 6:7-9 is highly significant. Through teaching, guidance, and good examples, CATE teachers can assist students in gaining a deep understanding of Christian values and applying them in their daily lives.

Abstract

This article discusses the importance of teaching faith in the family through a theological reflection on Deuteronomy 6:6-7. Education in the family is understood as the main foundation for the formation of children's character and spirituality, especially in the midst of modern-day challenges such as globalization, technological advancement, and value pluralism. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 provides a strong theological basis for parents' responsibility to instill God's word repeatedly and consistently in children's daily lives. Through a library research approach, this article examines the historical background of the Israelites, where the teaching of faith was an integral part of patriarchal family life, as well as their challenges in maintaining their faith identity in the midst of foreign cultures. The exegetical explanation of Deuteronomy 6:6-7 shows that the teaching of faith is not just a verbal act, but must be internalized in the real life of parents and children. Verbs such as “teach it again and again” and “talk about it” in the original Hebrew text indicate an intentional, consistent, and diligent effort in faith education. Thus, the teaching of faith is not only done through formal commands, but also through daily conversations, living examples, and the application of godly values in every aspect of family life. Furthermore, this article emphasizes the family as a mediator of God's revelation, where the Christian family functions as a “domestic church” that introduces God's love and truth to the next generation. Parents have a prophetic role in home life, responsible for not only teaching the word cognitively, but also living it out through concrete actions. Faith education in the family should be ongoing, creating a space for open dialogue so that children understand their faith more deeply and relevant to the challenges of the times. The article also elaborates on the continuity of God's covenant, where the teaching of faith aims to maintain people's commitment to God from generation to generation. The inheritance of faith is not just about maintaining traditions, but forming communities that live in faithfulness and love for God. The repetition of the teaching of the word serves as a strategy to strengthen children's faith and identity amidst the threat of foreign cultural influences that contradict the values of the Christian faith. In practice, this article emphasizes that parents should be creative and contextual in teaching methods, such as using Bible stories, family prayer, reading the word together, and engaging in spiritual activities. Thus, faith education at home becomes a dynamic process that touches all dimensions of a child's life, from emotional, social, to spiritual aspects. Overall, this article concludes that faith education in the family is the primary responsibility of parents that must be carried out with high theological awareness, life commitment, and perseverance. Through consistent faith education, the family will be the first and foremost place where children experience, understand, and live the word of God, so that the new generation can grow as individuals with strong faith, divine character, and ready to face the challenges of the times. By making the family the center of faith formation, the continuity of the covenant relationship with God can be maintained in every generation.

Abstract

This article explains about Deborah's leadership as reflected in the narrative with Barak in the Book of Judges chapter 4 verses 1 to 24. Deborah was a woman chosen by God to lead the Israelites against the oppression carried out by King Jabin and the army under the leadership of Sisera. In this story, Deborah shows that a true leader must have strong faith, courage in making decisions, and wisdom in giving guidance. Although Barak had doubts at first, he eventually obeyed Deborah's orders with the belief that God would give him victory. Deborah's leadership teaches us that a leader does not only depend on their strength or position, but also on obedience to God and the ability to collaborate with others. This article also discusses how Deborah's leadership principles can be applied in our lives today, both in the church, society, and the workplace. The main message is that good leaders are those who have faith, courage, wisdom, and the ability to build solid cooperation.

Abstract

The Book of Psalms is an important part of the Old Testament worship and theology tradition, reflecting the dynamics of human emotions in their relationship with God. Psalms 146-150 specifically highlight aspects of prayer and praise as expressions of joyful and hopeful faith. This study aims to interpret theologically how these five psalms describe the emotional response of believers to the work and character of God. With an exegetical and biblical theological approach, this study finds that Psalms 146-150 form a climax in the structure of the Book of Psalms, emphasizing the supremacy of praise as the primary form of worship. In addition, this study highlights how the emotional aspects of these psalms function not only as a reflection of individual faith experiences but also as a collective appeal for the community of believers. Thus, Psalms 146-150 emphasize that prayer and praise are the primary means of expressing the relationship between humans and God, while inspiring a spiritual life centered on worship.
