Abstract

Abstract: Head injury is a public health problem in many countries because it can cause death, disability, reduce a person's productive time. The role of the community is needed when an accident occurs in the surrounding environment, the inability to provide help due to lack of information in carrying out basic handling of head injury conditions can increase the risk of death in patients on the road. This activity was attended by 13 participants with the aim of providing information and education to the public to be ready to help and provide basic treatment in dealing with conditions involving head injuries. This activity is carried out in the Marpoyan Damai work area which is a public place and passes through the highway, causing a higher accident risk. The results during the activity, participants were able to understand and be able to practice the basic management of head injuries.

Abstract

The Indonesian adolescents’ knowledge on the subject of puberty is very limited according to a national data survey. This is the reason this study aims to increase knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of healthy living during the puberty phase through the contextual teaching and learning (CTL) method of classroom action research with cyclical procedures. The participants were 20 students and a teacher of fifth-year at the elementary school; meanwhile, the object was knowledge about puberty, collected through test questions and observations. The data analysis technique was conducted in a quantitative and qualitative descriptive manner, and the result showed that the method used was able to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and healthy living behavior of fifth-grade students in SDIT Mutiara Insan. This is evident in the pre-cycle with a percentage of 5.3%, which further increased to 15.8% in the first cycle, while in the second cycle, it increased to 94.7%.

Abstract

Abstract:  The decline in the quality of life of stroke patients during treatment at home shows the low ability of families to care for family members with stroke, lack of information needs and experience is the cause of families in caring for family members with stroke. The PIP (Position, Instruction, Puzzle) method is one method that family members can use in caring for stroke patients, the purpose of this activity is to train caregivers in caring for family members with stroke at home. The method used in this activity is guided training for 3 weeks involving stroke-free community partners in the working area of Umbansari sub-district. The results obtained in this activity, participants are able to understand and perform stroke care exercises using the PIP method in the care of stroke patients.

Abstract

Antibacterial compounds are bioactive substances capable of inhibiting bacterial growth by disrupting the metabolism and cellular processes of pathogenic microorganisms. Natural plant-derived compounds have been widely explored for their antibacterial properties, with star fruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) and betel leaf (Piper betle) recognized for their potent antimicrobial effects. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of a combination of star fruit and betel leaf extracts against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, two clinically significant bacterial pathogens. The extraction process was performed using hydro-extraction at different temperatures (40°C, 50°C, 60°C, and 90°C) to determine the optimal conditions for bioactive compound yield. Antibacterial activity was assessed using the disc diffusion method, measuring inhibition zones to indicate bacterial susceptibility. The results demonstrated that the optimal inhibitory effect occurred at 50°C, producing an inhibition zone of 19.75 mm for Staphylococcus aureus and 11.75 mm for Escherichia coli. These findings suggest that temperature plays a critical role in maximizing the antibacterial potential of plant extracts. The study highlights the potential application of star fruit and betel leaf extracts as natural antibacterial agents, particularly against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Further research is recommended to explore the mechanism of action, phytochemical composition, and potential synergy of these extracts in antimicrobial formulations.
