Abstract

Abstract

The Seba ceremony in Kabuyutan Ciburuy is a tradition of preserving cultural heritage that has been carried out for generations. Currently, Kabuyutan Ciburuy is no longer actively used as an educational institution, nor are the contents of its ancient manuscripts used as a reference for the development of science. For this reason, this research tries to dissect why this happens. This research uses a qualitative research method which is believed to be a scalpel in research, thereby helping to explain the research object factually. The research step is to carry out participant observation, the researcher actively participates in the activities being researched. Also hold interviews with local cultural figures either formally or informally. The result of this research is a descriptive explanation of the Seba Ceremony as an effort to preserve cultural heritage. Because heirlooms refer to educational activities, such as the discovery of many manuscripts, one of which contains advice on old Sundanese character and ethics. This has become a high level of cultural wealth by continuing to carry out the Seba ceremony as a form of preservation so that it remains alive and relevant for future generations. Abstract

This historical research examines the messages conveyed through the architectural art of an ancient mosque, the Cirebon Panjunan Red Mosque, which was built by Arab descendants living in Java in 1480 AD. In Indonesia, the acculturation between Islamic culture and traditional values resulted in the uniqueness of mosques' architectural buildings and ornaments. In addition to being a place of worship, mosques became an art form rich in symbols, representing historical, religious, and philosophical values. This qualitative research with historical methods seeks to investigate the visual narrative in the ancient mosque by implementing a series of historical research stages, including heuristics, criticism, and data interpretation. As pictures convey a narrative as well as words, visual narrative can be used to discover the values of the past. The results of the research have unveiled messages of history and culture regarding Islam's development during the Cirebon sultanate. In addition, the history of the Panjunan Red Mosque was described. Hopefully, this research can contribute to new knowledge on the past Islamic development in Indonesia and the wisdom of peaceful acculturation.

Abstract

Translating Russian proper names into Indonesian poses linguistic and cultural challenges since Russian anthroponyms, comprising full names, patronymics, and diminutives, encode complex semantic and pragmatic meanings often overlooked in translation. This study aims to examine how these meanings are conveyed in Indonesian literary translations and what cultural implications arise from the process. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected from four Russian literary works translated into Indonesian and analyzed for semantic, pragmatic, communicative, and cultural dimensions. The findings show that most translations fail to reflect the rich social and emotional nuances embedded in Russian anthroponyms. Diminutives, which express intimacy and social bonds, and patronymics, which signify respect and cultural identity, are frequently neutralized or omitted. The study concludes that Indonesian translators tend to prioritize linguistic equivalence over cultural accuracy, leading to the loss of socio-pragmatic depth. This research contributes to cross-cultural translation studies by underscoring the need for culturally sensitive approaches in translating personal names

Abstract

This study concerns the Promotion of Culture as an Independent Village through the Improvement of Cultural Resilience. The problem in villages that possess culture is the lack of inventory and documentation related to renewable cultural promotion objects (OPK), because conditions in the field may mean that these cultural promotion objects are still developing, underdeveloped, or even no longer developing. Through this research, it is hoped that the potential of OPK in Nagarawangi Village, Rancakalong District, Sumedang Regency, can be mapped comprehensively. The method used is qualitative research, with sources collected not only in the form of objects and written sources but also oral and visual sources. Oral sources were explored through interviews with storytellers as OPK actors and activists. As for visual sources, the exploration was not only carried out on visual sources in the form of moving images but also visual sources in the form of still visuals. The results of this study show a new approach to village development. The Cultural Advancement Village not only enriches the various existing approaches to village development but also provides a new space for village development, namely cultural space. The novelty of this approach will not only make villages more concerned about their culture but also enable villages to become centers of advancement.
