Abstract

The degree of public health can be seen from the level of health. Efforts to improve health can be done by implementing the Clean and Healthy Living Behavior hand washing program in the school environment. Hand washing is carried out with the aim of being clean and can have an impact on preventing infectious diseases such as infections that cause diarrhea, Covid-19, intestinal worms, respiratory infections and other infections. So it is necessary to carry out community service activities in the form of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior counseling to 28 class II students at SD Negeri 106165 Marindal I Deli Serdang Regency as one of the efforts to prevent the spread of infectious diseases in the school environment which will later have an impact on the home and in the community. The activity method is carried out by lectures, questions and answers, demonstrations and evaluations. The results of the activity showed that there was an increase in students' knowledge about hand washing, the impact of not washing hands and how to wash hands properly and correctly. There are several factors that support the implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior hand washing in schools, namely; the existence of teacher support, peer support, and hygiene facilities in washing hands.

Abstract

A validation study of the phenolic content analysis method has been carried out using the Galic acid method for jahe merah. Jahe merah in this study was previously characterized microscopically and macroscopically and a filter phytochemical test was carried out to determine the content of secondary metabolites in jahe merah. Furthermore, extraction is carried out by the maceration method. The resulting extract was then analyzed to determine the phenolic content in the sample. Determination of phenolic content uses a method that has been calibrated first, which includes linearity, LOD and LOQ, precision, accuracy, and sensitivity. The results of the analysis of the analytical parameters are as follows: linearity = 0.9909, Precision = 0.046; 0.06; 0.019 recovery = 98 and 102 %, sensitivity = 1.02. 105 L. Mol-1 cm-1. Analysis of the phenolic sample of the sample showed a concentration value of 180,2 mg GAE/gram jahe extract.

Abstract

Typhoid fever is a major disease of death in the medical field caused by Salmonella typhi infection with symptoms including fever, mucosal lesions, vomiting, diarrhea, fluid loss, septicemia, and peritonitis. The use of natural plants to cure infectious diseases such as andaliman fruit. The aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of Andaliman fruit extract on the growth of Salmonella typhi. Experimental research method. The Kirby-bauer method was used for the antibacterial test, the maceration method was used for extraction. The results of phytochemical compounds found flavonoids, tanins, saponins, tannins, alkaloids steroids, and triterpenoids in simplicia and andaliman fruit extracts. All extracts have the potential to inhibit the growth of Salmonella typhi, with the diameter of the inhibition zone consisting of 10.04 mm, 12.22 mm, 15.46 mm and 16.68 mm in the strong category. These doses are 10%, 30%, 50%, and 70%. The analysis shows the potential of Andaliman fruit extract as an antibiotic in the treatment of typhoid fever.

Abstract

Utilizing waste into a more valuable commodity was one of the objectives of that research. Waste which initially became an environmental pollutant factor could be processed into more useful products. Tofu liquid waste was referred to whey was a by-product of tofu production. Whey was waste that still contains organic materials such as protein, fat, carbohydrates and minerals. That whey was used as a growth medium for Acetobacter xylinum bacteria and produces cellulose biopolymer as a result of carbohydrate fermentation. The process of optimizing carbohydrate fermentation by Acetobacter xylinum bacteria was carried out by varying the ratio of the amount of whey to coconut water, the acidity level of the media, and the fermentation time. The research results showed that the biosynthesis of cellulose biopolymer was obtained from a ratio of whey concentration to coconut water of 1:1, variations in acidity levels showed that the optimum fermentation conditions occurred at pH 4, and the optimal amount of cellulose biopolymer was obtained on day 21, namely with the highest percent yield value. The resulting biocellulose was characterized using FTIR, XRD, and SEM. The characterization results show that biocellulose is well formed with a fiber surface shape and particle size in the range of 50-200 nm

Abstract

In traditional medicine, mangosteen leaves (Garcinia mangostana L.) are useful in treating diabetes, hypertension, diarrhea, dysentery, and urinary tract problems. The study aims to determine the levels of flavonoids in mangosteen leaves with 96% ethanol and ethyl acetate. The total flavonoid content was determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometry, and the maceration process on the extract using 96% ethanol and ethyl acetate. The results of phytochemical screening of mangosteen leaf extract with 96% ethanol and ethyl acetate contained flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins and steroids/triterpenoids. The total flavonoid content in 96% ethanol solvent was 50.110 mgQE/gram extract and the total flavonoid content in ethyl acetate solvent was 118.773 in the extract. Ethyl acetate solvent is more effective in attracting flavonoid compounds in mangosteen leaves.

Abstract

Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) belongs to the moraceae family. Traditionally, jackfruit is used to treat fever, convulsions, asthma, diarrhea, anemia, cough and inflammation. The presence of flavonoid and tannin compounds isolated from jackfruit leaves has pharmacological activity in health. The purpose of this study was to screen the phytochemicals of secondary metabolites of flavonoids and tannins, and to determine the levels of secondary metabolites of flavonoids and tannins in jackfruit leaves using uv-vis spectrophotometry. The stages of this study began with sample collection, extraction, phytochemical screening, and testing of flavonoid and tannin levels. The results of phytochemical screening showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and steroids/triterpenoids in the crude drug and jackfruit leaf extract. The total flavonoid content was 234.9 mgQE/g with an R2 value of 0.9916, and for measuring the total tannin content was 343.3 mgTAE/g with an R2 value of 0.9956. The conclusion of this study is that the ethanol extract of jackfruit leaves contains flavonoid and tannin compounds with a total flavonoid content of 234.9 mgQE/g and a total tannin content of 343.3 mgTAE/g.
