Abstract

In the coastal areas of East Java, especially in the Blimbing area, Paciran District, Lamongan Regency, most of the population works as fishermen who catch marine fish. One of the problems faced by fishermen is the use of ice cubes to preserve fish. However, ice cubes can reduce fish quality, melt easily, and are expensive. Also, it adds to the burden of the ship and increases the consumption of fuel oil (BBM). This socialisation programme aims to overcome these problems by introducing a cooling system that uses renewable energy through solar energy. This activity was carried out by presenting material and designing a solar cooling system on the boat. With this system, fishermen are expected to maintain good fish quality, increase production, and reduce operational costs, especially for fuel and ice, thereby increasing fishermen's income. This solar energy cooling system produces 1050 WP of power per day and has a battery capacity of 2400 Wh, and the ability to cool the freezer for an average of 12 hours per day.

Abstract

The design of a ship's propeller is very important as it directly affects the fuel efficiency, speed, and stability of the ship. Commonly, propellers are designed using expensive commercial software. This research aims to design a ship propeller using open-source code based on lifting line theory and using MATLAB application. The ship data used is a container ship with a length of 397 meters and a width of 56 meters. The propeller design results were propeller performance such as design performance, induced velocity, inflow angle, expanded blade, blade thickness, lift coefficient, performance curve, 2-D and 3-D outlines. A qualitative and quantitative comparison was conducted between a real-world manufactured propeller, a redesigned propeller developed using open-source software (OpenProp), and a commercial design tool (PropCAD). The comparison reveals that while the overall geometry and blade shape of all three propellers are similar, consisting of 6 blades with comparable radial profiles, key differences emerge in the expanded area ratio (EAR), skew angle, and surface modeling quality. The OpenProp design features an EAR of 1.0876 and a high skew angle of 39.9°, indicating an emphasis on hydrodynamic efficiency and cavitation mitigation. In contrast, the PropCAD model presents a slightly lower EAR of 1.077 with a more moderate skew angle of 20.5°, offering a balanced compromise between performance and manufacturability. This distinction highlights a potential optimization opportunity and demonstrates the capability of the open-source design approach to approximate real-world propeller characteristics with high fidelity, while also offering flexibility for further refinement. In summary, the findings suggest that the open-source design approach can approximate real-world propeller characteristics with high fidelity and provide flexibility for iterative optimization.

Abstract

In this paper an attempt has been made to assess how effective waste-collecting use catamaran ship with conveyor in the front. Numerical investigation based on Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) for predicting the flow pattern characteristics, velocity contour, and ship resistance. The focus of the present study is the impact of catamaran ship hull front shape on waste collection in calm water through the numerical methods. The three variations of the front of the hull used are symmetrical hull type, inner flat, and outer flat. It is done using speed variations of 1 to 4 knots. The results show inner flat hull catamaran has the smallest total resistance value than others. In addition, analysis of the flow pattern in front of catamaran shows that outer flat hull catamaran is the easiest to make waste closer to conveyor. From analysis of velocity contours shows that outer flat hull catamaran also has fastest to make the waste close to conveyor.

Abstract

The development of maritime technology drives innovation in ship design, including a 5 GT pilot boat designed for high efficiency and performance in Indonesian waters. This vessel is constructed using Fiberglass-Reinforced Plastic (FRP), a material known for its strength and cost-effectiveness compared to wood. Measuring 12.4 meters in length, the boat is powered by a total of 700 HP from two Yamaha F350UCB V8 5.3L F350 outboard engines, enabling it to reach an optimal speed of approximately 25 knots. Stability and power analysis, conducted using the Maxsurf application, indicate that positioning the engines at the stern on both the right and left sides provides the best stability with an inclination angle of 73.6°. This design is expected to enhance operational efficiency and support pilotage activities in dynamic waters.

Abstract

The Application of the Marine Pollution (MARPOL) Annex IV regulation concerning sewage discharge from ferry ships operating on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route plays a crucial role in pollution prevention. However, this essential role has been compromised due to suspicions that sewage waste from the Ketapang-Gilimanuk ferry ships is being directly discharged into the sea. Additionally, it is believed that the lack of sewage storage facilities at the port and inadequate supervision by local port authorities contribute to this issue. This research aims to investigate the implementation of MARPOL Annex IV in pollution prevention on ferry ships along the Ketapang – Gilimanuk route using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. This method is employed to establish a comprehensive evaluation framework by considering criteria such as safety management systems, safety and environmental protection policies, Company responsibilities and authorities, cultural and behavioral aspects, organizational factors, and technical considerations. Data will be collected through surveys and interviews with ship operators and members. Economical is more priority than operational techniques because it is related to capital expenditure and operational costs of each alternative to prevent marine pollution. Operational techniques are more priority than safety and environment because they are related to the technical and operational of each alternative to preventing marine pollution. Regulations are more priority than safety and environment because regulations affect each alternative, both Indonesian regulations and also SOPs at ports.
