Abstract

Household welfare can be improved through microfinancial institutions' support by providing microcredit programs. The shock of the COVID-19 pandemic caused the impact on household welfare to decrease by 2.6% in 2020 in Bengkulu. This study aims to evaluate the impact of the People's Business Credit (KUR) program on the welfare of business households in Bengkulu Province through the National Socio-Economic Survey of the Central Bureau of Statistics (SUSENAS) for the 2022 wave using the propensity score matching (PSM) method. The study results show that microcredit influences household welfare in Bengkulu. Households receiving KUR had higher expenditures of 8.89% than groups not receiving the KUR program. In addition, age, number of households, education, savings account, marital status, and agricultural business influence KUR program recipient participation. The KUR program is expected to improve the quality of MSMEs and provide recommendations for enhancing KUR program services to related financial institutions.

The results show that most regions are still in the relatively underdeveloped and less developed category and the average regional disparities index is at moderate disparities, namely 0.465. Abstract

Underemployment and poverty represent significant challenges for regional economies. This study aims to examine the determinants of underemployment and its impact on household poverty in Bengkulu Province. The research employs multinomial logistic regression and logistic regression methods. The findings indicate that poverty status, age, and employment position, such as self-employment and unpaid family work, positively influence the likelihood of underemployment. Conversely, economic status, area of residence (urban or rural), productive age, gender, marital status, and household size negatively affect the risk of underemployment. On the other hand, poverty is significantly influenced by employment status, area of residence (particularly in rural areas), non-productive age, marital status, household size, and education level. Individuals or households with lower levels of education face a higher probability of experiencing poverty. The study further reveals that individuals working fewer than or equal to 34 hours per week are 1.6% more likely to fall into poverty. These results underscore the need for policies that expand access to basic services, improve access to formal employment, enhance the quality of life for informal workers, and provide special attention to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as strategies to reduce both underemployment and poverty.

Abstract

In the increasingly competitive modern era, excessive working hours have become commonplace in various industrial sectors. However, the increase in working hours often has a negative impact on workers' health. This study aims to examine the effect of excessive working hours on workers' morbidity in Bengkulu. Using data from the National Socio-Economic Survey (SUSENAS), this study uses the Instrumental Variable (IV) Probit analysis method to address the potential for endogeneity in the relationship between variables. The results show that excessive working hours have a positive and significant effect on the chance of increasing workers' morbidity by 9.7 percent. In addition, domicile factors, types of business fields and expenditures also contribute to the chance of morbidity status. This study emphasizes that excessive working hours have serious implications for workers' physical and mental health, so it is important to implement policies that support work-life balance and health promotion programs in the workplace.

Abstract

In recent years, economic transactions have been carried out digitally or cashless worldwide, including in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the impact of digital payments on economic growth through regional analysis in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic. The data used is panel data from 34 provinces in Indonesia from 2019 to 2021. This study uses the multiple regression analysis method using the Eviews 12 program. The results show that digital payments have the greatest influence on the island of Sumatra, and have a significant positive effect on growth. economy. On the islands of Java-Bali, digital payments have no significant positive impact on economic growth. Meanwhile, on the eastern Indonesian island, digital payments do not affect economic growth. These findings suggest that government and policymakers should encourage the development of digital payment infrastructure and literacy, especially in regions where its impact on economic growth is still limited, so that the benefits of digitalization can be distributed more evenly across Indonesia.
