Abstract

The program of community service activity carried out by the Master Dharma Acarya (Hindu Education) in Medewi Village, Jembrana is the application of three obligations in higher education or called tri dharma. This program is based on several reasons. First, the obligation of higher education institutions, including lecturers and students, as a knowledge practices. Second, education and society have a strong relationship and influence each other. Third, education should be culture-based and oriented, so that the values that exist in society need to be strengthened. Fourth, this community service is also a mandate from Hindu literature, that jnana yadnya is the main yadnya. The theme of this service is the application of contextual learning in the new normal era based on Tri Hita Karana. Theoretically and practically, this service activity refers to the concept of community-oriented contextual learning which includes seven things, namely: (1) meaningfulness and usefulness; (2) Utilization of the environment in learning; (3) Integrated learning materials in daily life; (4) The problems raised in the learning are in accordance with the needs; (5) Emphasis on participatory learning; (6) Fostering cooperation; and (7) Fostering independence. The reinforcement is in understanding, interpreting and using Tri Hita Karana in life. Theoretically, service participants who are members of the community are able to interpret the Tri Hita Karana philosophy and relate it to their daily religious life. Practically, participants are equipped to take advantage of the potential that exists in the surrounding environment to support or improve the quality of their health and life through the practice of processing medicinal plants sourced from Hindu literature such as Lontar Usadha Taru Pramana and herbal medicine practitioners who are also members of this community service team.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the phenomenon of commodification of the Ngaben ceremony in Legian Village, Kuta, Badung, Bali. Ngaben, which is an important ritual in Hinduism in Bali, is experiencing significant changes along with increasing tourism and commercialization in the region. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods to gain an in-depth understanding of the process and impact of the commodification of the Ngaben ceremony. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with key informants, participant observation and documentation. Key informants include traditional leaders, ceremony holders, and business actors involved in the commodification process. The research results show that the commodification of the Ngaben ceremony not only has an impact on economic aspects, but also brings changes to the cultural and social values of the local community. The once sacred Ngaben ceremony is now often adapted to attract tourists, leading to a shift in the meaning and purpose of the ceremony. These findings indicate that although commodification provides economic benefits for society, there are concerns regarding the preservation of the traditional and spiritual values of the Ngaben ceremony. This research recommends the need for a balanced policy between tourism development and cultural preservation so that the essence of the Ngaben ceremony is maintained.

Abstract

In the principle of socio-ecology, the existence of various natural phenomena is a dynamic form that occurs in the spiritual and empirical corridor of humans in knowing the substance of the relationship of life between various dimensions, both physical and metaphysical. Hinduism in Bali has inherited a supply of fundamental knowledge regarding the context of disasters, which in various ritual practices carried out have the main purpose of harmonizing life between humans, God, and nature. Regarding this statement, knowledge about disasters and their mitigation is summarized in one of the tattwa texts called Lontar Rogha Sanghara Bhumi. This research is a qualitative research. In order to produce valid and credible research, this research uses two types of theoretical foundations to test the truth of the data obtained during the research. In this case, the eco-semiotic theory is used to analyze the signs of disaster conveyed by Lontar Rogha Sanghara Bhumi, while the Tri Hita Karana Theology theory is used to analyze the mitigation carried out for disaster management according to Lontar Rogha Sanghara Bhumi, and in the data analysis technique, content analysis is used so that this research can be presented descriptively. The findings produced in this study are the signs that appear before and are felt before the earthquake disaster occurs. The earthquakes in each sasih are believed to have different values and impacts so that the type of earthquake that has a destructive impact on nature and the type of earthquake that is believed to be a sign that the universe has been given a gift by God can be identified. Another finding is that the mitigation that should be carried out to overcome the disaster is by carrying out various tawur rituals such as Pancawalikrama and Labuh Gentuh to overcome disasters that occur periodically, while the nangluk merana, prayascitta, and guru piduka ceremonies are used to overcome disasters that occur incidentally.
