Abstract

This research examines the mentoring of nationalistic activities by students from the Al-Azhar Menganti Gresik Institute and field supervisors at MI Darunnajah Lebani Suko, Wringinanom District, Gresik Regency, in commemoration of Heroes' Day. Thru a descriptive qualitative approach, this program involves four main activities: the red and white parade, patriotic love songs, little warrior strokes (coloring and writing hero stories), and a colossal drama of patriotic fervor. These activities are creatively designed and based on direct experience to instill nationalistic values in elementary school students. The research results show a significant improvement in students in terms of courage, discipline, creativity, cooperation, and respect for national symbols such as the flag and national anthem. Collaboration between students as facilitators, teachers as pedagogical directors, and the school environment creates a conducive learning ecosystem where participatory methods are more effective than conventional approaches. This experiential learning approach not only enhances cognitive understanding of the struggles of national and local heroes but also builds emotional empathy and social skills. Positive impacts include high student enthusiasm, reduced learning boredom, and character strengthening in accordance with the Pancasila Student Profile, such as mutual cooperation and integrity. Overall, this mentoring program serves as a relevant model for non-formal character education that can be replicated in other schools to strengthen nationalism from an early age amidst the challenges of post-pandemic globalization and individualism.

Abstract

Character education is one of the main focuses in developing human resources in the 21st century. Amid the challenges of globalization, moral degradation, and technological disruption, teachers are seen as key actors who play a role in transferring knowledge and internalizing ethical values to students. This study aims to review the literature related to the role of teachers in the development of character education in schools. The method used is a qualitative literature study that reviews scientific articles, books, and relevant policy documents, both national and international. Thematic analysis is used to identify the roles, strategies, challenges, and implications of the role of teachers in character education. The study results show that teachers' role in character education is divided into three main dimensions, namely as value educators, role models, and facilitators of the learning environment. The strategies used include the integration of character values in the curriculum, habituation of positive behavior, moral reflection, and creating a supportive school culture. The challenges include limited conceptual understanding of teachers, administrative burden, limited time, and lack of support from parents and the community. This literature review also emphasizes that successful teachers in developing character education consistently show examples, have pedagogical competence, and receive policy and institutional support. These findings align with various theories of moral education, which place teachers as the main role models in shaping students' character. Conceptually, this research strengthens teacher capacity through training, supervision, and collaboration with parents and the community. Practically, the study results can be a reference for schools, policymakers, and educational institutions in designing strategies to strengthen character education that are more effective and contextual. Thus, it can be concluded that the teachers' role is crucial in character education development. Systematic efforts through exemplary learning integration and support of the education ecosystem are key to producing a generation that is intellectually intelligent and has strong moral integrity.

Abstract

Project-Based Learning (PBL) has been recognized as an effective approach to enrich the learning process by providing students with opportunities for in-depth exploration of real-world problems. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the implementation of PBL in enhancing students' creativity and innovation. This research examines how PBL can encourage students to develop critical thinking, collaboration and problem-solving skills that are relevant to the needs of today's working world. This study used the literature research method. The results show that PBL is successful in creating a more dynamic learning environment and stimulating student creativity. In many cases, students who engage in project-based learning show significant improvement in terms of the ability to think critically and innovatively. In addition, PBL also encourages the development of important 21st century skills such as teamwork, communication and independence. This study found that one of the keys to the success of PBL in enhancing students' creativity and innovation lies in the ability of educators to provide comprehensive challenges to students and keep them engaged in the learning process. However, challenges such as teacher readiness and limited learning time in some contexts are points that require further attention to maximize the effectiveness of PBL
