Abstract

The Cikaniki resort is one of the most accessible research stations located in the Gunung Halimun Salak National Park (GHSNP). It is in adjacent with Citalahab village. The Research Center for Biology, Indonesian Institute of Sciences and other institutions have conducted intensive research on the fauna diversity of GHSNP from this station. Here we formulate a checklist on fauna diversity surrounding the Cikaniki Research Station and Citalahab, GHNSP from various sources, i.e. field work, museum collections (Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense), scientific publications, and technical report. The study was conducted from October 2019 until October 2020. The latest field work was conducted from 8-10 October 2019 under the framework of the Jungle Survival and Biological Collection Management 2019 program. In total, 821 fauna species were recorded in Cikaniki-Citalahab areas which comprises of 48 species of Mollusca, five species of Malacostraca, 523 species of Insects, 22 species of Actinopterygii, 63 species of Amphibia and Reptiles, 115 species of Aves and 45 species of Mammals. The diversity contributes 62.1% of the total 1,323 known fauna species in GHSNP. Five number of species were assigned as endangered and three species critical endangered by IUCN. In addition, 123 species were endemic to Java and 34 species protected by Regulation of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Republic of Indonesia Number P.106/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/12/2018. The areas of Cikaniki and Citalahab are rich in biodiversity. Although both areas are in close intact with human activity, research and ecotourism, the need of continuously spreading awareness and enforce species and area conservation is inevitable.

Abstract

A fauna expedition has been conducted in Padang Bindu Karst, South Sumatra in 2021. Among the collected samples, a total of 111 specimens of Opisthostoma platycephalum (Caenogastropoda: Diplommatinidae) were collected from five sampling plots. This discovery is the first record of the land snail species in the southern of Sumatra island, as previous research only recognized its presence in Aceh, North Sumatra, and Peninsular Malaysia. This discovery contributes to the understanding of the biodiversity of South Sumatran land snails and highlights the importance of protecting limestone habitats.

Abstract

The systematics and distribution of the family Pupinidae (Gastropoda: Cyclophoroidea) in Java is reviewed. The family is represented in Java by four species of the genus Pupina, P. bipalatalis, P. compacta, P. junghuhni, and P. treubi. The shells of the species are described and figured, and the distribution data of the species are summarized. We have synonymized Pupina verbeeki Möllendorff, 1897 with Pupina treubi Boettger, 1890. All of the species except P. treubi, which is also known from Sumatra, are endemic to Java. Most previous records of Pupina from Java were from the western part of the island. Our new records show that the Pupina species are also more widespread in the drier central and eastern parts of Java. Their conservation status is therefore Least Concern.

Abstract

Monetaria annulus (Gastropoda: Cypraeidae) atau dikenal juga dengan siput cincin memiliki penyebaran di perairan Indo -Pasifik dan kerap dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat dari masa sebelum Masehi sebagai alat pembayaran, perhiasan, dan bahan konsumsi. Penelitian Monetaria annulus ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan karakteristik genetik spesies tersebut, yaitu dari nilai similaritas data BOLDsystems, komposisi basa nukleotida, jarak genetik, dan analisis filogenetik yang didasarkan pada sekuens gen COI. Sampel Monetaria annulus dari Pantai Nunuhu dilakukan tahapan ekstraksi, amplifikasi, elektroforesis, hingga sekuensing. Analisis genetik dilakukan dengan software bioinformatika, yaitu MEGA 7.0, BOLDsystems, Jupyter Notebook, Microsoft Excel, dan digunakan data pembanding dari Genbank. Hasil karakterisasi genetik dari tiga sampel segar, lima ingroup dan dua outgroup diperoleh sekuens dengan panjang 606 bp dan nilai similaritas 99,5-99,83%. Komposisi basa nukleotida menunjukkan kombinasi GC lebih rendah daripada AT dengan persentase berurutan 42,02% dan 57,98%. Rata-rata jarak genetik Monetaria annulus dari Pantai Nunuhu dengan ingroup adalah 2,69%. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa sampel dari Pantai Nunuhu teridentifikasi satu spesies dengan Monetaria annulus ingroup. Dari pohon filogenetik dihasilkan satu kluster besar yang membagi Monetaria annulus Pantai Nunuhu dengan ingroupnya yang berasal dari China dan Papua. Hasil penelitian ini dapat dipergunakan sebagai dasar penelitian mengenai biogeografi Monetaria annulus terutama di kawasan Wallacea.

Abstract

Land snails are part of Indonesia's rich biodiversity. Their mucus is widely used as a natural ingredient in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Despite this, research has primarily focused on a limited range of species, leaving the potential of many native land snail species unexplored. This indicates that there is still significant untapped potential in native Indonesian land snail species. This research aims to analyze the bioactive compounds in the mucus of native Indonesian land snails and compare them with those of invasive species. The research employed Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) to identify biologically active substances in land snail mucus. The samples used were Amphidromus palaceus and Lissachatina fulica collected from Gunungkelir, Yogyakarta, and Amphidromus perversus from Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta, and Jember, East Java. The results revealed that A. palaceus exhibited the highest number of bioactive compounds, with 28 identified substances. The bioactive properties across all samples were categorized as antibacterial (16%), wound healing and anti-inflammatory (12%), anticancer (8%), neuron-related drugs (6%), anti-aging (4%), with the remaining activities related to liver-related drugs, antiviral, heart disease-related drugs, and kidney disease-related drugs. These results highlight that native species have significant potential for further research, enabling their application in medicine and cosmetics.
