Abstract

The background to this research is the low understanding of concepts experienced by students, and the lack of student interest in learning mathematics. For this reason, teachers must choose the right learning media so that they can increase students' understanding of concepts, as was done by the teacher in class IV MI Darul Ulum 02. This research was conducted at MI Darul Ulum 02 for the 2023/2024 academic year. This research aims to analyze the increase in understanding of mathematical concepts regarding fractions in class IV using folded paper learning media. The method used in this research is observation, directly observing the mathematics learning process and interviews with class IV teachers. The results of this research show that the use of folded paper media increases students' understanding of concepts in mathematics regarding fractions. This is shown when the teacher asks students questions, and the students can answer correctly.

Abstract

This research explores the difficulty of understanding mathematics in multiples and number factorization material in grade 5 of the 1 Loram Kulon Elementary School. Qualitative research methods are used to achieve a holistic understanding of student problems. Data was collected through classroom observations and teacher interviews, involving grade 5 students as research participants. Data analysis uses qualitative analysis techniques. The research results revealed that the majority of students faced difficulties in internalizing the concepts of multiples and number factorization. Factors such as a lack of understanding of basic multiplication concepts, limited understanding of patterns, and difficulty applying concepts in real contexts are the main obstacles. This research not only identifies difficulties, but also proposes solutions by designing and implementing pedagogical interventions. The intervention involves a contextual learning approach, the use of learning media, and adjustments to teaching methods. The research results also showed a significant increase in students' understanding of multiples and number factorization material through pedagogical intervention.

Abstract

This research aims to instill the effectiveness of educational mathematics game media through the PhET application which is based on the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on student learning outcomes in class 4 MI Muhammadiyah 2 Kudus on the topic of fractions. This research uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The data analysis process includes normality test, homogeneity test, and paired sample t-test. Research findings indicate that the application of educational mathematics game media through the PBL-based PhET application significantly improves student learning outcomes in fraction material. The average pretest score was 59.06, which increased to 68.44 on the posttest. The normality test shows a significance of 0.314 > 0.005, indicating that the data has a normal distribution. The homogeneity test shows a significance of 0.089 > 0.05, indicating that the data is homogeneous. The results of the paired sample t test show a Sig value, (2-tailed) of 0.010 > 0.05, so the null hypothesis is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of educational mathematics game media through the PhET application based on the PBL model has a significant influence on student learning outcomes in class 4 of MI Muhammadiyah 2 Kudus.

Abstract

Higher-order thinking skill is closely related to literacy skills. However, data from PIRLS 2011 states that the reading ability of elementary school students in Indonesia is relatively low because it is ranked 42 out of 45 countries. Data from PISA 2018, Indonesia ranked 74 out of 76 countries. Though literacy skill influences mindset. The purpose of this study is to explain: a) the basic concepts of literacy, b) the basic concepts of High Order Thinking Skills, and c) the literacy skill to improve high order thinking skills in elementary school students. The approach used in this study is qualitative. The research method used is content analysis. The data sources are journals and books related to literacy and high order thinking skills. The results of this study are: first, literacy is the ability to interpret information critically and can convey knowledge to others accurately. Second, higher-order thinking skills is the process of thinking students at a higher level of knowledge from various cognitive concepts such as analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and creation. Third, literacy skills improve higher-order thinking. The strategies used by schools include conditioning literacy-friendly physical environments, seeking social and affective situations as literate models of communication and interaction, and striving schools as a literate academic environments.

Abstract

Numeracy literacy is very important for elementary school students because it provides a basis for applying mathematics in everyday life. Numeracy literacy requires students to think critically in solving problems. Moreover, elementary school is early childhood education to start getting used to thinking through research and analysis. Researchers use qualitative research in literature studies by reviewing various sources such as books, articles, modules, and final research assignments. The results of the research are that there are several ways to shape the critical thinking character of elementary school students with numeracy literacy, namely 1) using interactive learning models such as project-based learning and problem-based learning; 2) application of numeracy literacy in various classroom activities; and 3) conveying meaningful mathematical values during learning. A teacher can use these three methods optimally, provided that a teacher must also apply numeracy literacy in everyday life. So it will be easier for students to imitate and apply it.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a student worksheet based on Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), integrated with Malang culture, to improve fifth-grade students’ understanding of fractional operations. Incorporating local cultural elements into mathematics instruction is intended to increase student engagement and contextual comprehension. The research employed a Research and Development (RD) design using the ADDIE model, which includes five phases: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The worksheet was designed around seven CTL components: constructivism, inquiry, questioning, learning community, modeling, reflection, and authentic assessment. Data collection instruments included interviews, expert validation sheets, and student response questionnaires. Descriptive analysis was used to evaluate the validity and practicality of the product. Validation was conducted by four experts in material (84.70%), media (80%), language (93.33%), and teaching practice (97.5%), indicating that the worksheet was “very valid” and suitable for classroom use. Implementation with fifth-grade students showed enhanced engagement and understanding, particularly in solving addition and subtraction of fractions with unlike denominators. The integration of CTL strategies and local cultural content, supported by colorful visuals and contextual examples, created a more interactive and meaningful learning experience. Student feedback and performance gains demonstrated the worksheet's effectiveness in supporting conceptual understanding and increasing motivation. The developed CTL-based worksheet, enriched with Malang cultural context, is valid, feasible, and effective for improving fractional learning in elementary mathematics classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of joyful learning in mathematics instruction and to assess its effects on students’ motivation and learning outcomes at MI NU Nurul Haq Kudus using a descriptive qualitative approach involving a teacher and 27 fourth-grade B students as research participants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman framework, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the application of joyful learning can foster a more engaging, interactive, and varied classroom atmosphere through the use of educational games, songs, and technology-based media, while also promoting students’ active participation in the learning process. As a result, students demonstrate increased enthusiasm, greater confidence, and improved motivation and academic achievement, particularly in learning pictogram material. However, several challenges remain, including differences in students’ abilities, the presence of misconceptions, and limited instructional time. Therefore, teachers are encouraged to continuously develop creative teaching innovations, apply differentiated instruction, and enhance students’ conceptual understanding through contextual approaches to achieve more optimal learning outcomes.
