Abstract

During their study period, one of the programs provided to students is academic guidance. Academic mentoring is an activity where students consult academic supervisors which aim to help students plan studies and solve study problems, one example is the academic mentoring program at the Information Systems Department, Faculty of Computer Science, Sriwijaya University. However, in practice there are problems experienced by students but they are not detected from the start because of the low monitoring of their academic supervisors which causes delays in graduation. This study aims to produce a prototype design of the Academic Guidance Information System so that it can be used as a platform for monitoring student guidance. The method used is the design thinking method which has 5 stages, namely empathize, define, ideate, prototype and test. At the ideate and prototype stages, the Fogg Behavior Model theory is used as a reference material. Evaluation of the prototype design results using the Maze Design usability tool. Testing uses two test methods, namely the Mission Usability Score (MIUS), Maze Usability Score (MAUS) and System Usability Score (SUS). The MIUS and MAUS tests got a score of 78 and entered the medium/marginal characteristics. The SUS calculation gets a score of 90.25 which leads to the acceptable category with a grade scale (A). The test results were carried out with 1 test iteration to 20 respondents and showed that the design had met the feasibility standard. Keywords : Information Systems, Academic Guidance, Design Thinking Methods, Fogg Behavior Model, Maze Design.

Abstract

The rapid development of internet technology today makes many news media grow pretty rapidly. Newspaper companies have utilized internet technology to spread the latest news online through online mass media. Hundreds of thousands of stories are written and published daily on online-based Indonesian news portals, making it difficult for readers to find the news topics they want to read. In making it easier for readers to find the news they are looking for, news needs to be classified according to its respective categories, such as education, current news, finance, and sports. So to classify categories, a text classification method is needed or often called Text Mining. Text mining is a data mining classification technique for processing text using a computer to produce helpful text analysis. In this study, a comparison of 2 methods for developing texts was carried out to get accuracy above 80%.

Abstract

Cases of violence against children and women continue to increase, but the handling of reports is often hampered by the large volume of incoming reports and the lengthy manual classification process. This study aims to address these issues by developing a method for automatically classifying reports of violence using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm optimized with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Firefly algorithms. The main objective is to group types of violence accurately to facilitate faster and more effective identification and handling. The research dataset consists of 500 reports obtained from Kaggle, with stages including text pre-processing, implementation of optimization algorithms, and evaluation based on accuracy, precision, recall, and misclassification error. The experiments were conducted using Python on the Google Colab platform. The results showed that PSO-SVM achieved an accuracy of 87.00% and a recall of 80.42%, outperforming Firefly-SVM which achieved an accuracy of 86.00% and a recall of 78.75%. Although Firefly-SVM demonstrated slightly higher precision (92.63%) compared to PSO-SVM (91.53%), PSO-SVM had a lower misclassification error (13.00% compared to 14.00%). These findings indicate that PSO-SVM is more effective for applications requiring better case detection, while Firefly-SVM is more suitable for applications prioritizing precision in positive predictions.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of learning using animated videos on students' science learning outcomes. The research adopts a quantitative approach utilizing the T-Test statistical method with the SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions) software version 22. Based on the analysis results, the mean scores for the pre-test in the experimental class and control class were 39.00 and 39.12, respectively, with significance values (sig 2-tailed) of 0.57 and 0.59. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is no significant difference in the average scores between the experimental and control classes in the pre-test. However, for the post-test results, the mean scores for the experimental class and control class were 70.00 and 43.21, respectively, with hypothesis testing results of 0.00 for both groups. This indicates a significant difference in average scores between the experimental and control classes in the post-test. This finding demonstrates that the use of animated video media in teaching significantly improves learning outcomes in the experimental class compared to the control class. The experimental class showed better attitudes and achievements in learning compared to the control class.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has significantly changed consumer shopping behavior, especially through the emergence of e-commerce platforms that offer convenience, speed, and efficiency. This phenomenon has directly impacted traditional markets, which are experiencing a decline in consumer visits. This study aims to analyze the influence of e-commerce development on the intensity of consumer visits to traditional markets under the management of PUD Pasar Kota Medan. A quantitative approach was employed through a survey method, where data were collected using questionnaires distributed to active consumers who have shopped at traditional markets. The instruments used were tested for validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, including normality tests, homogeneity tests, and t-tests. The results revealed a significant effect of e-commerce on decreasing visit intensity, as indicated by a significance value of 0.004 (< 0.05). This finding indicates that the accessibility, product variety, and digital promotions offered by e-commerce platforms influence changes in consumer shopping preferences. This study contributes to understanding the shift in consumer behavior in the digital era and serves as a reference for traditional market managers and local governments in designing adaptive and innovative digital strategies to maintain the competitiveness of traditional markets.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of fried and grilled food consumption patterns on the incidence of cancer among adolescents and young adults. Data were collected from 100 respondents using a structured questionnaire and purposive sampling method. Logistic regression analysis was employed to identify the relationship between unhealthy eating habits, such as consuming fried and grilled foods, and the potential risk of cancer incidence. The findings reveal that the consumption patterns of fried and grilled foods significantly contribute to the increased risk of cancer, with frequent use of reused cooking oil and grilled food consumption emerging as dominant factors. These results align with the Theory of Biological Balance, which posits that biological imbalance caused by the intake of harmful substances, such as acrylamide and PAHs, can elevate the risk of carcinogenesis. This study highlights the urgent need for nutritional education and the promotion of healthy eating habits to reduce exposure to carcinogenic substances, particularly among adolescents and young adults, to prevent future cancer cases.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises play a vital role in the Indonesian economy, yet face significant challenges in managing raw material inventories, particularly for perishable commodities such as coconut sap (nira). This study applies and optimizes the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) method to predict raw material stock levels for coconut sap at Puri Food and Healthy, an SME, using five years of daily historical data (January 1, 2020–December 31, 2024; 2,191 entries). A descriptive and experimental quantitative approach was employed to develop a deep learning-based predictive model, with data obtained through inventory documentation and interviews with SME managers. The research process encompassed data preparation, collection, normalization, LSTM model construction using Python and TensorFlow in Google Colab, and evaluation using Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), and R² Score. Results show the model achieved an MAE of 5.31 and an RMSE of 6.94, indicating moderate prediction error. However, the R² value of 0.0711 suggests very low explanatory power, potentially due to underfitting or data limitations. Notably, multi-step forecasting was applied to generate projections for 2026–2027 despite having historical data only through 2024, with these extended forecasts intended as experimental. The model successfully learned seasonal patterns but requires further optimization to improve predictive accuracy. This study advances AI-based inventory management for SMEs, supporting operational efficiency, waste reduction, and risk mitigation in raw material supply chains.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of the mass ratio on the capacitance of electrodes made from TiO-based composites. The composites were synthesized using a wet chemical method and applied using the doctor blade technique, incorporating TiO2 and rGO derived from coconut shell activated carbon. Our findings reveal that at a 1:1 mass ratio, the atomic composition of Ti and O was non-uniform, although there was evident adherence of TiO2 elements to the sample surface. In contrast, at mass ratios of 1:3 and 1:5, a decrease in the concentration of Ti atoms and an increase in O atoms were observed, indicating a reduction in Ti oxidation. SEM analysis further revealed that particle size significantly impacts capacitance: smaller particle sizes yielded higher capacitance. In the 1:1 mass variation, the discharge process was protracted, taking up to 29.3 minutes and generating an electrical energy of 0.000413 joules with a capacitance of 489 µF. These insights are pivotal for optimizing the composition and mass ratio, fostering the development of electrode materials characterized by enhanced capacitance and energy efficiency. Such advancements hold promising potential for a range of applications in the energy storage sector. Keywords: Activated Carbon, Capasitance, Supercapacitor
