Abstract

Abstract

The pressure faced is in the form of social pressure, performance expectations, and emotional factors that can affect mental toughness. This causes athletes to fail to improve concentration and mind control. Therefore, if athletes cannot control and control their own minds, it will greatly affect the mental toughness of athletes when they are in a match. Methods: The experimental method for 7 weeks was used in this study involving 13 female basketball athletes from Bandung Regency. The instrument used in the study was the Sport Mental Training Questionnaire (SMTQ). Data analysis was carried out by data processing using the t-test. Results: The results of the study showed that there was a significant effect of mind control training on the mental toughness of female basketball athletes. The results also showed an increase in the mental toughness of female basketball athletes between before and after receiving treatment by 18.5%. Implications and Recommendation: This study concludes that mind control training can be used as one method to improve the mental toughness of female basketball athletes. It is recommended for coaches to integrate this mind control training into athlete training programs so that athletes not only become better physically and technically, but also gain strong mental toughness.

Abstract

Study purpose. In volleyball games, athletes often experience stress, which many internal and external factors can cause. This causes athletes to feel chaotic and unable to perform at their best. So, they often experience defeat in matches. This study aims to examine the effects of mindfulness meditation training on reducing stress in junior volleyball athletes. Materials and methods. The method used in this research is a pretest, posttest experimental method with a quantitative approach involving 14 Bandung Regency volleyball athletes. The instrument used in this study is a stress questionnaire. This study used an instrument in the form of a Depression Anxiety Stress Scales for Youth (DASS-Y) questionnaire, which is a tool to measure stress in children and adolescents.  The treatment given is mindfulness meditation, which is done for four weeks. There are three sessions in one week, each lasting 15-25 minutes. The data obtained was then processed using SPSS 25. Data processing begins with descriptive statistics to summarize the data, followed by normality tests to ensure the data distribution was appropriate. Finally, we conducted hypothesis testing using a paired t-test to determine the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation training in reducing stress levels before and after the program. Results. The results showed that mindfulness meditation training significantly reduced the stress level of junior volleyball athletes, as evidenced by a decrease in the average stress score from 18.21 to 14.07 after treatment, with a difference of 5.20%. It can be concluded that mindfulness meditation intervention is one of the most effective psychological exercises to reduce stress in junior volleyball athletes. Conclusions. This study concludes that mindfulness meditation intervention is a way that influences reducing stress in junior volleyball athletes. This study suggests that more attention should be paid to the psychological condition of athletes and provide mental exercises such as mindfulness meditation when there are athletes who have indications of stress.

Abstract

Problems: Mood significantly influences athletic performance, particularly in cricket, where monotonous and repetitive training can negatively affect athletes’ moods, reduce motivation, and ultimately impair on-field performance. Negative moods are not only detrimental to individual athletes but can also spread among teammates, amplifying their impact. Purpose: This study aimed to examine differences in mood levels between male and female cricket athletes during training, focusing on how gender may influence emotional responses in this context. Methods: This research utilized the Brunel Mood States (BRUMS) questionnaire, which was administered to the sample participants just once. Data analysis for the study was conducted using a t-test in SPSS version 25. Results: The results indicated significant differences in mood levels between male and female cricket athletes. Specifically, there were considerable disparities in negative mood states, such as tension, depression, anger, fatigue, and confusion, between the two groups during the training phase. Despite these differences, both male and female athletes exhibited an "iceberg personality" pattern, with vigor being the dominant mood indicator. Conclusion: The study concludes that the mood levels of male and female cricket athletes vary during training, highlighting the importance of a holistic approach that takes into account competitive pressures on male and female team to enhance performance through better management of mood states.
