Abstract

Problems: Futsal athletes often have difficulty managing emotions when making mistakes, so athletes experience a decline in performance, such as being easily provoked by the audience, passing incorrectly, failing to shoot, and various other things. This makes it difficult for athletes to win matches and tend to blame each other. Purpose: This study aims to examine the role of emotion regulation in improving the performance of futsal athletes. Methods: Descriptive method with a quantitative approach was used involving this research which involved 10 UPI male futsal athletes. The instruments used in the study were Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) and Game Performance Assessment Inventory (GPAI) which were given once to the sample. Pearson correlation test was used as the data analysis of this study. Results: The results showed that there is a significant relationship between emotional regulation and the performance of futsal athletes. Conclusion: This study concludes that emotion regulation has an important role in improving the performance of futsal athletes. It is important for coaches to be able to pay more attention to the emotional state of athletes in the athlete training process.

Abstract

Problems: Mood significantly influences athletic performance, particularly in cricket, where monotonous and repetitive training can negatively affect athletes’ moods, reduce motivation, and ultimately impair on-field performance. Negative moods are not only detrimental to individual athletes but can also spread among teammates, amplifying their impact. Purpose: This study aimed to examine differences in mood levels between male and female cricket athletes during training, focusing on how gender may influence emotional responses in this context. Methods: This research utilized the Brunel Mood States (BRUMS) questionnaire, which was administered to the sample participants just once. Data analysis for the study was conducted using a t-test in SPSS version 25. Results: The results indicated significant differences in mood levels between male and female cricket athletes. Specifically, there were considerable disparities in negative mood states, such as tension, depression, anger, fatigue, and confusion, between the two groups during the training phase. Despite these differences, both male and female athletes exhibited an "iceberg personality" pattern, with vigor being the dominant mood indicator. Conclusion: The study concludes that the mood levels of male and female cricket athletes vary during training, highlighting the importance of a holistic approach that takes into account competitive pressures on male and female team to enhance performance through better management of mood states.

Abstract

In taekwondo matches, some taekwondo athletes have difficulty managing their emotions and self-control when experiencing unexpected things in the middle of the game, this makes athletes lose focus on their match so athletes have a lack of confidence and damage the match pattern that has been planned before the game starts, such as kicking that does not hit the point repeatedly, and not protecting the body protector properly. This results in athletes experiencing defeat in the match which adds to the emotions of athletes becoming increasingly mixed up and unable to control themselves. Existing studies are still limited in examining the relationship between emotional stability and self-control in university taekwondo athletes. Therefore, this study aims to fill this gap by examining the relationship between the two variables in university taekwondo athletes, The researcher also aims to test the relationship between emotional stability and self-control in university taekwondo athletes. This study uses a descriptive method with a quantitative approach involving 30 taekwondo athletes from the Indonesian Education University. The instruments used in this study are cross-sectional taken from the UWIST Mood Adjective Checklist (UMAC) and Brief Self-Control Scale. After the data has been obtained, data analysis is carried out by correlation testing using SPSS 25. The results of the study showed that there was a significant relationship between the emotional stability and self-control of university taekwondo athletes. This study concludes that emotional stability and self-control play an important role in the self-control of university taekwondo athletes.

However, there are still limitations in research that compare the mental toughness of female rugby athletes at different levels of various factors that affect the effectiveness of mental training programs applied in the team. Objectives. This study aims to compare the mental toughness of female rugby athletes at various levels of competition. Methods. The subjects of the study involved 36 athletes competing in the sevens number at three different levels of competition (city, province, and national). The method used in this study is descriptive quantitative using the Sports Mental Training Questionnaire (SMTQ) as a research instrument. Results. The results showed differences in scores at three levels of competition, namely City, Province, and National. The city level has a percentage of athlete mental toughness of 77%, the provincial level has a percentage of athlete mental toughness of 82%, and the national level has a percentage of mental toughness of 85%. Based on the study that has been conducted, it can be concluded that there are differences in mental toughness in female rugby athletes at the city, provincial, and national levels. Conclusion. At the city level, the level of mental toughness is lower than at other levels, while at the national level, the mental toughness is higher than at others. This means that the higher the level of competition that rugby athletes participate in, the higher their mental toughness. Thus, this study can provide recommendations to practitioners in the sport of Rugby to manage the mental toughness of athletes at every level of competition.
