Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to create an ethnoscience-based science booklet media integrated with Islamic values to teach science to junior high school students. This research uses the ADDIE model development stage with a research instrument in the form of a questionnaire involving 4 expert validators, 20 prospective teachers, and students. The product to be developed is an ethnoscience-based science booklet media with earth and solar system material that can be used by junior high school (SMP). The validity test results in terms of language aspects amounted to 78.3%, material aspects to 84%, design aspects to 84%, and visual display aspects to 75%. All aspects of the validity test were classified as very valid. The reliability test obtained a result of 0.667, categorized as reliable, and the practicality test obtained a value of 87.71%, classified as very practical. The novelty of this research is that researchers combine cultural and scientific knowledge in the form of booklet science media and are also integrated with Islamic values. So, it can be concluded that the ethnoscience-based science booklet media integrated with Islamic values is valid, reliable, and practical so that junior high schools can use it.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of the guided inquiry learning model integrated with the Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) approach through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA framework. The review employed the Publish or Perish software to extract and analyze relevant scientific articles published between 2018 and 2024. The data analysis involved identifying, screening, and synthesizing studies aligned with the research focus. From an initial pool of 1,755 articles, only 9 met the inclusion criteria. The findings indicate that the guided inquiry model combined with the SSI approach positively influences various educational outcomes, including students’ science process skills, scientific argumentation abilities, critical thinking, and the overall quality of the learning environment. Despite its potential benefits, the integration of guided inquiry and SSI remains underexplored in existing literature, revealing a significant research gap. This underscores the relevance and urgency of further empirical investigations in this area. The positive correlation observed in the selected studies highlights the potential of this pedagogical integration to foster more meaningful and contextually rich science education. Consequently, this topic presents a valuable avenue for future research and innovation in science teaching and learning. Keywords: guided inquiry, socio scientific issues, systematic literature review

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement in students' scientific argumentation skills through the application of the E-Module Socio scientific issues (SSI) Based on Islamic Values integrated with the Guided Inquiry learning model in Earth and Solar System lessons. A true experimental method was used in this study with a pretest-posttest control group design. All 255 students of class VII at one of the Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) in Pekanbaru were the population of this study. Random sampling technique was used in this research, and the samples selected were 32 the seventh-grade students of class A as the experimental group taught by implementing Islamic Values integrated E-Module SSI assisted Guided Inquiry learning model and 33 students of class C as the control group taught by implementing conventional learning model.  Collecting data was done by giving pretest and posttest to find out the increase of student scientific argumentation skills.  The test data were analyzed by using independent sample t-test.  The statistical test results with the assistance of SPSS 20 showed that the significant score 0.000 was lower than 0.05, so Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected.  It meant that there was a significant difference of scientific argumentation skill increase between students taught by implementing Islamic Values integrated  E-Module SSI assisted Guided Inquiry learning model and those who were taught by implementing conventional learning model on Earth and Solar System lesson at the seventh-grade of Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Keywords: Guided Inquiry; Scientific Argumentation Skills; S0cio Scientific Issues; E-Module; Islamic Values
