Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan kohesi dalam teks biografi karya siswa kelas XI SMK Negeri di Malang. Data penelitian diperoleh dari teks biografi yang disusun oleh siswa kelas XI SMK. Data penelitian tersebut diinterpretasi dengan melalui tahapan reduksi, kodifikasi, analisis, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Analisis data penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif-deskriptif. Dari hasil analisis data ditemukan bahwa peranti kohesi gramatikal maupun kohesi leksikal digunakan dalam teks biografi siswa kelas XI SMK. Penggunaan penanda konjungsi sebagai peranti kohesi gramatikal dan reiterasi yang merupakan peranti kohesi leksikal mendominasi teks biografi siswa.

Abstract

This research was conducted to explain the effect of the learning model CIRC and reading interest on the results of the descriptive essay writing skills of class X SMA Negeri 1 Bangkinang. This type of research is a quantitative study using a quasi-experimental method and a 2x2 factorial experimental design. The population of this study was students of class X SMA Negeri 1 Bangkinang. Sampling was done by purposive sampling with a sample size of 60 students. Data collection was carried out using two instruments, namely questionnaires and performance tests. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that four things are as follows. First, the skills of writing essays of descriptions of students taught using the learning model CIRC are better than those taught by conventional learning models of class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Bangkinang. Second, the writing skills of students who have high reading interest who are taught using the learning model CIRC are higher than students who have high reading interest who are taught using the conventional learning model of class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Bangkinang. Third, the writing skills of students who have low reading interest who are taught using the learning model CIRC are higher than students who have low reading interest who are taught using the conventional learning model of class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Bangkinang. Fourth, there is no interaction between reading interest and learning models in influencing the writing skills of descriptive essays of class X SMA Negeri 1 Bangkinang.

Abstract

Language politeness is a rule of behavior that is determined and mutually agreed upon by a particular community. In learning in the classroom requires a polite attitude to communicate, especially in discussion activities. This study was conducted to explain the language politeness of Communication Studies students 2021 A in discussion activities on Indonesian language learning at Abdurrab University. . This type of research is a qualitative research with descriptive method. This research was conducted on students of Communication Studies at Abdurrab University. The data of this research is in the form of utterances spoken by the research subjects. The subject of this research is a student of Communication Science batch 2021 A Abdurrab University. The data collection techniques in this study were tapping techniques, listening-engagement techniques, recording techniques and note-taking techniques. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded as follows: Indonesian language politeness in the presentation and discussion activities of Communication Science students class 2021 A Abdurrab University that there is compliance with Geoffrey Leech's politeness principles, because from (185) speech data, there are (173) speech data of Indonesian language politeness compliance, or in other words, it has a high politeness compliance rate, which is 93.5%, and there are (12) speech data on politeness violations in Indonesian or in other words it has a low politeness violation rate of 6.5%.

Abstract

A child's mastery of a language begins with the acquisition of the first language, which is often called the mother tongue. Apart from the mother tongue, which plays a role in children's language acquisition, the language of teachers at school also plays a role in the development of children's language acquisition and learning. In schools, language use is a reality of teacher-student communication interactions that take place in teaching and learning activities. The teacher's use of language with students in conversations in class, especially the teacher's speech, Speech acts are speech events because they involve parties speaking in certain situations and places. These two symptoms occur in one process, namely the communication process. The teacher's speech acts referred to in this research are directive speech acts. Directive speech acts have an important role in children's language acquisition because they are carried out by the speaker with the intention that the listener performs the action mentioned in the speech. This research aims to (1) describe the forms of directive speech acts used by teachers in the teaching and learning process in language acquisition for 4-year-old children at EBTA Paud and (2) describe teachers' directive speech strategies in the teaching and learning process at EBTA Paud. The data source in this research is the speeches of teachers who teach at EBTA Early Childhood Education. The data collection techniques used in this research are recording techniques and note-taking techniques. The results of the research found that the use of speech acts in the form of directive speech in the teaching and learning process by teachers at EBTA Early Childhood Education was orders, requests, or hopes, suggesting, advising, and challenging. There are two speaking strategies used by teachers in the teaching and learning process at Paud EBTA, namely the strategy of speaking frankly without preamble and the strategy of speaking frankly with positive politeness.

Abstract

Discourse is the highest form at the linguistic level. Discourse is formed from several paragraphs and drives the language functions contained therein. Good discourse is discourse that pays attention to the relationships between sentences so that coherence can be maintained. Therefore, consistency of meaning and cleanliness of the form of written discourse is one of the key factors that increases the readability factor. Good and complete discourse must be seen in terms of the cohesion and consistency of the discourse produced. This research aims to describe the use of cohesion and coherence in forming the integrity of the popular news discourse of the online newspaper go.riau.com. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data source in this research is discourse in the popular online newspaper go.riau.com. The discourses chosen are 6 discourses and the research data is in the form of fragments of news discourse that contain cohesion and coherence. Research data was collected using documentation techniques. Based on the research results, there are markers of cohesion and coherence. Cohesion markers can be divided into two, namely grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion. Grammatical cohesion markers were found in 41 research data and lexical cohesion markers were found in 22 data. Coherence markers in this research were found in 34 research data

Abstract

Menurut data UNESCO, minat baca masyarakat Indonesia sangat memprihatinkan, yaitu hanya mencapai 0,001%. Fenomena krisis literasi disebabkan masyarakat enggan untuk membaca, memahami, dan menganalisis informasi dengan kritis dan teliti. Ironisnya, meski minat membaca buku rendah tetapi bisa menatap layar gadget kurang lebih 9 jam sehari. Lewat gadget memang banyak informasi yang beredar. Sayangnya informasi yang diperoleh kerap kali bukan berasal dari media yang bisa dipercaya. Meningkatkan literasi di kalangan anak-anak dan remaja sangat penting karena literasi adalah keterampilan utama yang diperlukan untuk sukses dalam kehidupan yang semakin kompleks dan berubah dengan cepat. Sebagai bentuk rasa peduli terhadap kondisi saat ini, Tim pengabdi mengadakan kegiatan untuk dapat meningkatkan kemampuan literasi dalam dua Bahasa (Bahasa Indonesia dan Bahasa Inggris) pada anak-anak panti asuhan As-Salaam Nur Hidayah Pekanbaru melalui bacaan tentang ketauladanan keislaman dan pembangunan di zaman Rasulullah. Setelah dilakukan sosialisasi dan pemberian materi oleh tim pengabdi, terjadi peningkatan terhadap kemampuan literasi anak-anak panti asuhan As-Salaam Nur Hidayah Pekanbaru yang dapat dilihat dari hasil post-test yang diberikan. Selain itu, partisipasi peserta kegiatan sosialisasi mencapai tingkat yang memuaskan yaitu sebesar 93%. Hal ini menunjukkan tingkat antusiasme yang tinggi dari pihak panti asuhan As-Salaam Nur Hidayah terhadap kegiatan pengabdian ini.

Abstract

Grammar is still considered the most problem experienced by Indonesian native speaker in speaking English, especially those who are preparing for the IELTS test. Thus, this study aimed to assess five students’ speaking performance to determine their linguistic competence in speaking. This study employed qualitative descriptive design with a case study method. The participants were five students of an IELTS course. The spoken data was collected by face-to-face interview, transcribed, and analysed using the theory of linguistic competence proposed by Celce-Murcia et al. The parameters used in the study were the noun clause and adjective clause (syntax), the subject and verb agreements (morphology), and the pronoun references (lexicon). It was found that the students had several weaknesses in performing subject and verb agreement as well as pronoun references, while they found no difficulties in using adjective and noun clauses. A ‘lexical sophistication’ strategy can be implemented to improve the students’ grammar in speaking by playing roles as IELTS examiners and test takers.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of using audiovisual media and picture series on students' short story writing skills. The study is motivated by the low interest and motivation among students in writing, as well as their difficulties in generating ideas, composing cohesive sentences, and using engaging language. A quasi-experimental approach was employed, involving two experimental groups: one group learned using audiovisual media, while the other used picture series. Data on writing skills were collected through performance tests conducted before and after the treatment. The results showed that students who learned using audiovisual media achieved higher average scores in writing skills compared to those who used picture series. Audiovisual media proved to be more effective in helping students express ideas, structure stories, and use more engaging language. Additionally, the study identified an interaction between the type of learning media and students' initial writing abilities, with audiovisual media showing significant benefits for both high- and low-ability students. These findings highlight the importance of selecting appropriate learning media to enhance students' motivation and writing skills. Teachers are encouraged to utilize audiovisual media as an alternative in teaching short story writing to create a more engaging and effective learning environment.

Abstract

Minat baca siswa SMAN 5 Pekanbaru yang rendah menjadi hambatan dalam pengembangan literasi dan keterampilan komunikasi, khususnya dalam bahasa Inggris. Untuk mengatasi masalah ini, kegiatan pengabdian dilakukan dengan tujuan meningkatkan minat baca dan keterampilan komunikasi siswa melalui metode interaktif, seperti teka-teki dalam bahasa Inggris dengan tema dongeng dan konstruksi. Metode kegiatan meliputi sosialisasi, pelatihan interaktif, serta pre-test dan post-test untuk mengukur peningkatan pemahaman siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan hasil tes. Analisis data menunjukkan peningkatan minat baca dan keterampilan komunikasi siswa setelah kegiatan. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa 83,3% siswa mampu memahami materi yang disampaikan, dan minat baca meningkat di antara 61,9% siswa yang merasa puas dengan kegiatan tersebut. Kesimpulannya, kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan kesadaran akan pentingnya membaca dan keterampilan komunikasi. Disarankan agar program serupa dilanjutkan secara berkesinambungan untuk mendukung perkembangan literasi di era digital.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi dan minat baca siswa melalui pemberdayaan literasi digital di MA Darul Hikmah Pondok Pesantren Dar El Hikmah Pekanbaru. Permasalahan utama yang dihadapi adalah rendahnya keterampilan komunikasi siswa dalam menyampaikan ide secara efektif dan kurangnya minat baca, terutama dalam pemanfaatan media digital yang relevan dengan pembelajaran modern. Kegiatan ini dirancang untuk memberikan solusi melalui pendekatan partisipatif dan kolaboratif yang melibatkan 27 siswa kelas XII IPA 3 sebagai mitra sasaran. Proses pemberdayaan dimulai dengan analisis kebutuhan melalui observasi dan wawancara untuk mengidentifikasi tingkat literasi digital, keterampilan komunikasi, dan minat baca siswa. Pre-test dilakukan untuk mengukur pengetahuan awal siswa sebagai dasar intervensi. Program ini meliputi edukasi literasi digital, simulasi interaktif, serta pelatihan komunikasi efektif yang dirancang secara bertahap. Evaluasi dilakukan melalui post-test, observasi langsung, dan survei kepuasan peserta. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan, dengan 85% siswa menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi, 78% memiliki pemahaman literasi digital yang lebih baik, dan 70% melaporkan peningkatan minat baca. Tingkat kepuasan siswa terhadap program ini juga sangat tinggi, mencapai 93%. Program ini berhasil meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis, keterampilan komunikasi, dan literasi digital siswa, yang sangat relevan dalam menghadapi tantangan era digital di lingkungan pesantren.
