Abstract

Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah melakukan pendampingan pengembangan pembelajaran guru melalui projec based learning berbasis kebudayaan lokal MTs Al Mustaqim 1 Kubu Raya Provinsi Kalimantan Barat. Tujuan PKM sesuai dengan IKU dan fokus pengabdian yaitu menginternalisasi kebudayaan kedalam pembelajaran dan menerapkan IPTEKS dalam menghasilkan suatu produk berupa media pembelajaran. Metode dalamPengabddian ini dilakukan tiga tahapan yaitu tahapa persiapan, kegiatan pendampingan dan tanya jawab. Adapun hasil kegiatan pendampingan dideskripsikan bahwa pendidik atau guru masih belum maksimal penggunaan metode pembelajaran yang berpusat pada siswa yang menghasilkan produk atau karya, minimnya kepedulian guru dan siswa terhadap kebermanfaatan penggunaan media pembelajaran dari kebudayaan masyarakat lokal, dengan adanya pemdampingan Pengembangan Pembelajaran Guru Melalui Project Based Learning Berbasis Kebudayaan Lokal, dapat meningkatakan pengetahuan dan keterampilan guru dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran. Pendampingan PKM ini berdampat jauh bagi sekolah mitra di karena dengan pemdampingan ini, guru-guru lebih kreatif dan inovaif dalam mengkaitkan proses pembelajaran dalam media pembelajarnan dan menggunakan budaya lokal. UNU Kalbar, khususnya FKIP dan prodi-prodinya semakin dikenal sebagai institusi yang mempunyai kepedulian terhadap permasalahan masyarakat khususnya guru guru di Kubu Raya

Abstract

This study was conducted to improve the students’ writing skill through mind mapping technique of the eleventh graders at MA Al-Fatwa. As stated in statement of research problem ‘’ How can students’ writing skill of descriptive text be improved through mind mapping technique’’ Furthermore, this study employed a Classroom Action Research method. This research was conducted based on Kemmis & Mc Taggert, (1988) model, there are; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research was also carried out in two cycles. In data collecting, the researcher used three kind of instruments, there were; test, questionnaire and observation checklist. The result of the research on the cycle 1 showed that the average scores on students’ writing skills were 70. On other hand, the average scores on students’ writing skills were still below the KKM, it is 75. The result on students’ writing skill on the cycle 2 were 78.18. While, there were 27.2% of students who did not pass the KKM. It was also proved by the result on students’ perception and students’ behavioral changes during classroom process. The students got joyful classroom atmosphere during the lesson. It can be assumed that students’ writing skill can be improved through mind mapping technique

Abstract

This research is aimed at determining whether students’ writing skills can be improved through the implementation of a genre-based approach at SMK Awaludin Batu Ampar. This study is conducted based on the preliminary study which pointed out that most of the students lack of writing ability in the classroom instructional process. Being designed in classroom action research, it then adopts Kemmis and Mc Taggart model with two cycles in which each cycle comprises four phases; planning, acting, observing and reflecting. it is also a collaborative action research with the English teacher of the school in running the study. As the objective of the research is to improve students’ writing skill, the results indicate that Genre Based Approach is undeniably an effective strategy to resolve writing issues and increase students’ ability in writing a procedure text. The implementation of Genre Based Approach also encourages students to get involved actively in the learning process, promote self-awareness to gain better writing skill, and provoke students’ positive attitude in learning English.

Abstract

Vocabulary is an essential element of language ability and serves as a foundation for pupils' speaking, listening, reading, and writing abilities.This study aims to determine the effectivenes of using flash cards to teach students’ vocabulary mastery at SMP Darut Tauhid. The research design is independent sample t-test, while the research method is quantitative. The participants in this study all student`classVII totaling 60 people, 30 male students and 30 female students. the data in this study were collected using instruments pre-test and posh-test (multiple choice), then normality test, homogeneity test and descriptive statistics were used to evaluate data analysis requirements. in this study the independent sample t test analysis was used to test the hypothesis using computer software assistance through the SPSS (Statistcal Package For the Scial Sciens) version 25 for windows program. Based on the results of research and discussion, the following conclusions can be drawn: There is an effectivenes of using flash cards to teach students’ vocabulary mastery at SMP Darut Tauhid. This is indicated by the results of the significance (2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05 then as the basis for the performance of the decision in the independent sample test, it can be concluded that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that there is The use of Flash cards effective on students‟ vocabulary at SMP Darut Tauhid.

Abstract

English is an imperative skill to understand because it has a dominant part in almost the current field in globalization contexts such as in media, technology, science, business, and education. This study was conducted to know the strategies were used by the teacher in teaching speaking skills to students at MA Modern Nurul-Amin Kubu Padi. The subjects of this research were students and the English teacher at MA Modern Nurul-Amin. In conducting the research, the researcher constructs a descriptive qualitative approach. Then, the data were collected through observation checklist, field note and interviews, as well as by questionnaires. The observation checklist and field note were conducted at MA Modern Nurul-Amin during the learning process. Meanwhile, the interviews were conducted with students and the English teacher. Additionally, the questionnaires were distributed to students and the English teacher as the additional or a proponent data of the research. Then, the data were analyzed qualitatively. The findings showed that there were several strategies used by teacher in teaching English speaking skills, the strategies were debate, speech, English class conversation, role play, and group discussion. Moreover, the mostly strategies used by teacher was debate, speech, English class conversation, and group discussion in different level. Abstract

The aims of this research were find out the types of errors in writing recount text, the research and the sample was tenth grade students of  X. In this study, descriptive qualitative research was the methodology employed.  The study's results, which examined different forms of student errors, were obtained from their recount texts in the form of essay tests. In order to determine how the errors happened, the researcher also conducted interviews to gather information. The study's findings showed that MA Al Ishlah students continued to make mistakes in their recount texts. It was evident that the mistakes made by the students included addition, subtraction, distortion, and disarray. These mistakes resulted from students applying the rules of their first language too broadly (intralingual), from them generalizing the rule and applying it insufficiently (interlingual), from their lack of motivation to write with correct English grammar (carelessness), and from the methods used to present the material.

Abstract

This study attempted to investigate further issues dealing with the effect of bilingual education and gender difference on students’ English achievement especially at elementary school students. The data were collected from mid-semester test and final test of a hundred and ten students of six grade at Islamic elementary school of Al Azhar 21 Pontianak. They were divided into two big categories. Half of them belong to bilingual class, while the others were from regular class. In terms of gender, they consisted of forty-nine females and sixty four males. As the purpose of the study was to probe the effect of bilingual education and gender difference on English achievement, the results indicated that both bilingual education and gender difference do not contribute significantly on English achievements. In other words, bilinguals or females do not attain English better than monolinguals or males and vice versa. As such, the  study advocated to avoid the dichotomy of bilingual class and non-bilingual class at school, since they carried more obstacles and challenges in the classroom instruction.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of parents' income on student English achievement at Senior High School 1 Rasau Jaya. The research design used is Analysis Of Variance test, while the research method is quantitative. Discussion method as the independent variable (X) is parents’ income (low, Middle and High), while English learning achievement as the dependent variable (Y). The participants in this study were students selected using random sampling technique, namely students from Senior High School 1 Rasau Jaya totaling 100 people, namely 32 from the low income group, 36 students from the middle income group and 32 students from the high income group. Data in the study were collected using instruments (questionnaires), then assessed normality test, homogeneity test used to evaluate the requirements of data analysis. While analysis of variance analysis was used to test the hypothesis using computer software assistance through the SPSS (Statistcal Package for the Scial Sciens) version 24 for windows program. Based on the research findings and discussion, the following conclusions can be drawn: There is no effect of parents' Income on English Achievement. This is indicated by the result of the significance level of Analysis of variance 0.974 > 0.05. This shows that there is no influence between parents' income on student English achievement. This means Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using ice breaking method on speaking skills of SMP Negeri 5 Pontianak students in English learning. The research design used is Dependent sample t-test, while the research method is quantitative with ice breaking method as the independent variable (X), while teaching speaking as the dependent variable (Y). The participants in this study were all 30 students of SMP Negeri 5 Pontianak, 16 female students and 14 male students, the data in the study were collected using an instrument (oral test), then normality test, homogeneity test and descriptive statistics were used to evaluate the requirements of data analysis. While the dependent t test analysis was used to test the hypothesis using computer software assistance through the SPSS (Statistcal Package For the Scial Sciens) version 22 for windows program. Based on the research findings and discussion, the following conclusions can be drawn: There is an effect of using ice breaking method on students' speaking skill at SMP Ngeri 5 Pontianak. This is indicated by the t-test result, which is t count (-9.421) > t table (1.699) with a significance level of 0.05. This shows that there is a positive effect of using ice breaking method on speaking skills in English learning, this means Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected.

Abstract

This research presents an analysis of figurative language on six popular song lyrics which are “Anti-Hero”, “Lover”, “Cruel Summer”, “Shake It Off”, “Blank Space” and “Love Story” from Taylor Swift's songs. In this study, the analysis focuses in two types between comparative (including personification and metaphor) and contradictive (including hyperbole and paradox). The objective of this study is to analyse the types and meanings of figurative language. The aim is to identify the types and meanings of figurative language in six popular song lyrics. This research is descriptive qualitative research which is aimed to make the description of the analyses systematically describe the data to obtain accurate and actual results. The research data used were 6 Taylor Swift’s popular song lyrics. By using figurative language used by Taylor Swift’s that can reveal the layers of meaning hidden in the song lyrics. The data analysis is reading and identifying data, classifying data, analysing data, and making conclusion. The findings of this research show that the analysis of figurative language popular song lyrics in 6 songs used found 28 song lyrics there are personification with 2 lyrics, metaphor with 19 lyrics, hyperbole with 2 lyrics, and paradox with 5 lyrics. The dominant figurative language in this research is metaphor because metaphor helps to describe or express something in more interesting and imaginative way. And the researcher also found some emotional expression, such as love, resilience, introspection, and storytelling in Taylor Swift’s music. This research is expected to make a significant contribution to the field. The research is expected to provide readers and future researchers with a better understanding of the different types of figurative language
