Abstract

Flipbooks are interesting reference books for student learning. The integration of digital media in education has become crucial in the digital age, and flipbooks have gained popularity as an interactive tool. This systematic literature review investigates the effectiveness and implementation of flipbooks in science education from 2017 to 2024. This study employed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. We reviewed journal articles indexed in Scopus and Sinta, focusing on the use of flipbooks in science education. Our review highlights the effectiveness of flipbooks in improving student engagement, motivation, and learning outcomes in science education. The flipbook's interactive features, such as multimedia elements and simulations, have proven to support diverse learning styles. The adoption of flipbooks in science education shows promise for enhancing the digital literacy of students and educators. However, further empirical research is required to understand its long-term impacts and the best strategies for implementation.

Abstract

Purpose- This study aims to design and test student worksheets (LKPD) using simple water wheel media, and to cultivate an environmental care attitude among junior high school students.Methodology- This research is a Research and Development (R&D) with the 4-D model (define, design, develop, disseminate). This research was carried out at SMP IT Ibnu Abbas with 34 students of eighth grade as participants. The data collection is done using the pre-test, post-test, and environmental care attitude questionnaire.Findings-Validation analysis reveals a predominant average score of 94% (very valid category) towards the suitability of worksheets for instilling the attitude of environmental care and its advantage in the science subject as determined from teacher and student questionnaires. The outcomes showed that there was an effect of simple water wheel media on students' attitude to care for environment and conceptual understanding, average gained N-gain = 0.86 (in the high category).Significance- This study shows how innovative, hands-on media have the potential to support science education and promote students’ sense of responsibility for environmental sustainability. Keywords: Environmental Care Attitudes, Student Worksheet, Water wheel

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose of the study: Assessment of students' critical thinking skills and environmental care attitudes is crucial for science learning. This research aims to develop an essay test instrument for critical thinking and a questionnaire for environmental care attitudes, evaluating their validity through expert assessments and trials. Methodology: Utilizing the Research and Development (R&D) model by Oriondo & Dallo-Antoio (1998), the study comprises three stages: test planning, trials, and validation. A random sampling technique was employed, involving 267 students. The critical thinking instrument consists of essay questions, while the environmental care attitudes are measured using a prosocial intentions questionnaire. Main Findings: Validity results indicate a high Aiken index of 0.96 for critical thinking essays and 1.0 for the environmental care questionnaire. Reliability estimates were 0.73 for critical thinking and 0.71 for environmental attitudes, both good. The difficulty level for the critical thinking instrument was classified as medium (0.68), while the environmental care instrument was deemed difficult (1.65). Limitations include focusing solely on science subjects, trials restricted to one area, and reliance on self-reports for environmental attitudes, which may introduce bias. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this study lies in integrating critical thinking assessment with environmental care attitudes, a rare approach in previous research. In conclusion, the developed instruments effectively measure students' critical thinking skills and environmental care attitudes in science education, particularly regarding global warming.

Abstract

Purpose—In the 21st century, where education emphasizes the development of holistic competencies, collaboration skills have become an important aspect of preparing students to face the complex demands of the real-world environment. This study aims to analyze the effect of discovery learning on improving students' collaboration skills in studying alternative energy sources, mainly hydropower.Methodology – This research employed a quasi-experimental design featuring a one-group pretest-posttest method, with 35 students at SMP IT Ibnu Abbas serving as participants. The sample was chosen using a random sampling approach, ensuring that every individual in the population had an equal chance of being selected. Information regarding students' collaboration skills was gathered through self-assessment using a questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods to provide an overview of the results and inferential statistics to test hypotheses and reach more detailed conclusions.Findings—The results indicate a notable enhancement in students' collaboration abilities following the adoption of the discovery learning model, with the mean score increasing from 28.49 on the pre-test to 36.34 on the post-test. A paired sample t-test validated this change, yielding a significance level of 0.000. The N-Gain assessment also demonstrated a medium effectiveness level with an average score of 0.3255. The discovery learning model successfully improved collaboration skills through active exploration, discussion, and problem-solving, underscoring its potential to promote 21st-century competencies among students.Significance – In addition, this approach provides a reference for implementing strategic steps to help high school students improve their collaborative skills, fostering essential non-academic achievements like teamwork and problem-solving for their future success.
