Abstract

Curiosity is a basic important aspect encourages students in finding various information which, in turn, aid them to encompass the concept learnt. This descriptive research aimed at elaborating the curiosity profile of junior high school students in science learning, particularly in excretion system topic who were taught using the authentic inquiry learning. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 14 Yogyakarta with 32 of eight graders as the subjects. The instrument used was curiosity response questionnaire. The data obtained was analyzed using percentage. The results showed that the average of curiosity achievement obtained was categorized as strong (75%). However, the comparison of implementations between the authentic inquiry learning and the other learning models are needed to get more comprehensive information.

Abstract

Abstract

The 21st century has changed how people communicate, work, and learn, which ultimately requires skills to face global situations. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused students in Indonesia to experience learning loss, resulting in gaps in students' learning abilities that are not at the standard. Literacy and numeracy abilities are decreasing, while these abilities are included in the 21st-century skills that must be mastered to master all aspects. This study aims to analyze the importance of literacy and numeracy. The systematic literature review (SLR) method will be used. The systematic literature review (SLR) method will be used. The two stages of SLR, namely the planning and conducting stages, refer to the analysis of how the data will be analyzed. SLR will play a role in summarizing and analyzing findings and various insights regarding issues related to literacy and numeracy. The systematic review will consider several research opinions discussing the importance of literacy and numeracy. The research results show that literacy and numeracy are partners like one unit in building a concept of understanding that can help learning and impact careers in the future. The findings relate to factors that can be used for literacy and numeracy: the environment, educators' attention, learning strategies, technology, and teaching literacy and numeracy across the curriculum.

Abstract

Integrating PhET on inquiry-based worksheets can foster a more interactive and hands-on learning environment that encourages active student participation throughout the educational process. The research aims to develop an integrated inquiry-based worksheet PhET simulation. This research type is RD, using the 4-D model, which designs learning activities to enhance science process skills. The validators totaled four people, including media experts, content experts, and two practitioners. The readability test uses ten for 9th-grade students. The research findings indicate that the worksheets created have a very high average validity, with an Aiken V value of 0.97. The readability test results were obtained with an average readability percentage of 96% in the very good category and without revision. The effectiveness of the worksheets developed to improve science process skills obtained an N-gain of 0.71 in the high category. This means that PhET simulation integrated inquiry-based worksheets are feasible, practical, and effective for science learning to improve science process skills

Abstract

Science education at the junior high school level requires an approach that maximally develops students' science process skills (SPS). One way to achieve this is by utilizing interactive learning media, such as virtual laboratories, combined with an inquiry-based learning model. This study aims to determine the effect of implementing an inquiry-based virtual laboratory on improving students' SPS. The method used in this study is pre-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects in this study were 32 students from class VIII D at SMP Negeri 4 Yogyakarta. Data collection was carried out by administering a pretest before treatment and a posttest after treatment. The data obtained were analyzed using paired t-test and N-Gain test. The paired t-test results showed a significance value (2-tailed) = (0.00) < 0.05, indicating the effect of the treatment on students' SPS. The N-Gain result was 0.73 in the high category, so it can be concluded that applying virtual laboratory media with the inquiry-based learning model in the inclined plane topic can enhance students' SPS in science subjects.

Abstract

This study examines the profile of science process skills and scientific attitudes among students in Nunukan Regency. The study population includes 9th-grade students from junior high schools during the 2023/2024 school year. The research involved 243 students to evaluate science process skills and 332 students to assess scientific attitudes through questionnaires spanning 21 different schools. The research type is descriptive quantitative with the sampling technique being conducted through accidental sampling. The study administered 27 questions on electrical circuit material and a scientific attitude questionnaire with 40 statement items using a Likert scale. The results show that (1) varying levels of science process skills: observing (40%), classifying (39.4%), predicting (30.87%), planning experiments (40.6%), formulating hypotheses (40.2%), interpreting data (38.4%), implementing concepts (38.7%), measuring (37.3%), and communicating (36.2%). The average score for science process skills was 38%, falling into the low category. (2) In contrast, scientific attitude scores were higher: curiosity (71.3%), critical thinking (71.3%), respecting data/facts (63%), open-mindedness (74.1%), cooperation (68.1%), and honesty (72.2%), with an average score of 70%, falling into the high category. (3) The results of the correlation analysis indicate that H0 is rejected, and Ha is accepted. This means there is a significant relationship between scientific process skills and scientific attitude, which is weak but positive.
