Abstract

The emergence of the analytic philosophy of language that developed by Ludwig Wittgenstein focused that the problem of philosophy is a problem of language. Philosophy of language as a linguistic discipline has a strategic position related to the development of language learning, including Arabic. By using library research methods, this study aims to describe the urgency of the philosophy of language and Arabic learning which resulted in several conclusions. First, in essence, language is a symbol system that is not only a sequence of empirical sounds but has a non-empirical meaning. Second, the relationship between philosophy and language occurs when philosophers most often use language analysis to solve philosophical problems. Third, the position of philosophy as the basis for analyzing language concepts and considering the central role of language in verbally expressing philosophical thoughts. Fourth, Arabic learning is in dire need of a philosophical foundation

Abstract

This research aims to reveal the inconsistencies of machine translation from the perspective of students who use web-based Google Translate in their Arabic thesis. This research has an impact on translation machine users from Arabic teachers and researchers to be more careful in using Google Translate when translating from Bahasa to Arabic, especially in inconsistent aspects. The researcher used a mixed method with an Explanatory Sequential Design‎ because after distributing questionnaires in collecting quantitative data to collect patterns of inconsistencies that occurred, it was important to explain the initial findings from the quantitative data qualitatively through interviews. ‎Quantitative data is analyzed using simple percentage statistics, then qualitative data is analyzed through four steps, namely data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion. The results of this research found that inconsistencies in web-based Google Translate translation results were found in four patterns. First, Google Translate is very inconsistent in translating terms that have the same meaning (mutarodifat), but the terms that appear in the translation results are often different, even within the same paragraph. Second, inconsistencies very often also occur in the aspects of mufrad, mutsanna and jamak, the Google translation machine cannot differentiate between the singularity and plurality aspects of the object being translated, so translation errors often occur where a singular word that should be translated as mufrad will instead become plural or on the contrary. Third, the translation machine does not recognize the gender of the subject in the translated sentence, so translation inconsistencies in the mudzakkar and mu'annats aspects occur very often. Inconsistencies in the gender aspect, as well as the mufrad, mutsanna, and jamak aspects, have an impact on the fourth error pattern, namely grammatical inconsistencies, namely errors in using the verb (fi'il) in a sentence. Of the four patterns of inconsistency, the term inconsistency is a new thing that has not been revealed much. The grammatical aspect is closely related to aspects of the singular or plural form as well as the masculine or feminine form which is the subject of the translated sentence and needs to be discussed further by other researchers.

Abstract

Technological development has significantly changed human social life, especially online social media. In Indonesia, device-based social media users reached 191.4 million in January 2022. This number is still being reduced to several types of social media widely used in Indonesia, such as YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, based on Data Reportal Research in February 2022. Female social media users could be said to be active on some social media sites. Consumption of content on social media often makes a spectacle a guide for women. Several perspectives on Javanese women, such as sumur-dapur-kasur, macak-masak-manak, swargo nunut, neroko katut, and Konco Wingking, have a positive philosophical meaning by building perceptions through social media. Therefore, this research explores the perspectives and experiences of Javanese women concerning their participation in the digital space. Using the ethnographic approach, a qualitative research strategy, the study involves in-depth observation, active engagement, and interpersonal interactions within a specific cultural group or community. The result of this research is the perspective of more modern Javanese women in a positive perspective and women themselves. In essence, all perspectives on the philosophical values of Javanese women have shifted, including in practice. Javanese women who open themselves to social media can develop their potential with all these perspectives because the opportunity to become more 'modern' lies in the woman's decision.

Abstract

This study investigates the vitality of the Arabic language and the role of Arabic language landscapes in supporting learning at Islamic universities in West Sumatra. Using a mixed-method Exploratory Sequential Design, data were collected through observations, focus group discussions, and surveys. Although Arabic signage is commonly found on campuses, its distribution is uneven and its use inconsistent. According to UNESCO’s criteria, Arabic in this context is classified as “vulnerable.” Nevertheless, Arabic landscapes demonstrate potential as learning resources, educational media, and components of a supportive linguistic environment. Students reported improvements in vocabulary and contextual understanding through exposure to these elements. While often symbolic, Arabic landscapes can provide meaningful educational value if effectively integrated. The study concludes that their strategic use could enhance Arabic language learning in higher education. Further research is recommended to involve broader populations and explore innovative approaches to incorporating Arabic landscapes into both formal and informal learning environments.

Abstract

Arabic Language Education Study Program students must be able to write theses in Arabic. A common obstacle students face is relying on Google Translate to help them translate from Indonesian to Arabic. However, even though it is easy to use, Google Translate still has obstacles when measured using Larson's translation quality indicators. This study aims to improve the quality of Google Translate translation results for Arabic theses using an Android-based term dictionary. This study is a type of classroom action research carried out in 2 cycles, each including planning, action, observation, and reflection procedures. Data collection was carried out through an assessment of the translation results of 22 students selected based on the criteria of being in the process of completing their thesis. The study results showed that of the 12 sub-indicators of translation quality, the aspects of equivalence and suitability of the source and target languages were the lowest quality. Using an Android-based term dictionary significantly reduced error scores and improved translation quality compared to Google Translate as a translation machine. However, the dictionary does not match the efficiency or time savings the translation machine provides. Furthermore, researchers are expected to be able to produce translation machines that can accommodate the intricacies and complexities of the Arabic language in the future.

Abstract

Abstract

Arabic Rhetoric (Ilm al-Bayan) is often perceived as challenging by university students due to its abstract concepts and reliance on traditional, teacher-centered instruction. Despite its linguistic and cultural importance, efforts to modernize its teaching through pedagogically sound, technology-enhanced methods remain limited. This study addresses this gap by integrating the ADDIE instructional design model with the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach to develop an interactive e-module tailored specifically for Ilm al-Bayan instruction. Employing a quasi-experimental design, the research involved 110 undergraduate students from the Arabic Language Department at State Islamic University in Padang. Data collected through expert validation, questionnaires, pre-tests, and post-tests were analyzed both statistically and thematically. The findings reveal that while students acknowledge the value of Ilm al-Bayan for developing linguistic, aesthetic, and critical skills, they face significant challenges due to outdated resources, teacher-centered approaches, and limited interactivity. Students expressed a strong preference for flexible, autonomous, and interactive learning tools, particularly digital platforms. Results demonstrate that the CLIL-based e-module effectively addresses these needs by combining meaningful content with language learning through multimedia, interactive exercises, and instant feedback, thereby enhancing comprehension, motivation, and self-directed learning. This need analysis confirms the timeliness and necessity of developing a CLIL-integrated e-module for Ilm al-Bayan, offering a transformative approach that makes Arabic Rhetoric education more engaging, accessible, and effective in higher education contexts.
