Abstract

Introduction: The older adults and people with comorbidities are more susceptible to the infected of the COVID-19 virus, and have a higher risk of mortality compared to other populations. Steps to prevent transmission have been taken by the government, such as socializing physical distancing movements, staying at home, wearing masks when leaving the house, to prohibiting people from going to village. This study wants to know the factors and situations that influence the behaviour of preventing COVID-19. Methods: This research design uses observational design with correlation description approach. The total population is 148, obtained a sample of 126 respondents using the Slovin’s formula. Random sampling technique used with the help of the excel application. The older adult’s group was 63 respondents and the chronic disease group was 63 respondents. The researcher used 11 questionnaires and multivariate analysis test results using SEM with SmartPLS. Results: The results of the multivariate analysis test using SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) with SmartPLS (Partial Least Square) showed that the factors that influenced COVID-19 prevention behaviour in the older adult’s group were knowledge, while in the chronic disease group was social support and attitude towards COVID-19. Conclusion: It is hoped that it can improve preventive behaviour against COVID-19 by understanding what factors are weakening or factors that can increase the risk of COVID-19 transmission in the elderly and people with chronic diseases, and can be a policy reference in implementing the protocol of COVID-19 for the Village Government.

Abstract

Introduction: The aging process can impact the cardiovascular system in both structural and physiological ways, which can lead to atherosclerosis and an increased risk of coronary heart disease. While pharmacological interventions for CHD exist, they may come with unwanted side effects. As an alternative, many individuals turn to complementary medicine, including traditional herbal remedies. Among these remedies is a polyphenol-rich mixture (PRM) that has been shown to lower cholesterol levels and inhibit cholesterol absorption. Consequently, this study seeks to explore the efficacy of traditional herbal medicine containing PRM in reducing cholesterol levels in older adults with CHD. Methods: Design research uses quasi-experiment with two groups pre-test and post-test, the number of samples is 55 older adults with CHD, divided into 28 older adults consuming traditional herbal medicine and 27 older adults’ control. The researcher used an Accu-check to check the cholesterol level and analysed using a t-test. Results: The results showed that the decrease in mean cholesterol levels before and after the intervention period in the herbal medicine group (d = 50.50) was significantly greater than the mean score in the control group (d = -1.44) with p <.001. Conclusion: Older adults with coronary heart disease could benefit from traditional Jamu containing polyphenol-rich mixture by reducing cholesterol levels. This could be used as complementary medicine in nursing.

Abstract

Introduction: This study investigated the effect of bar soap made from eco-enzymes and apples on the skin moisture of older adults. Eco-enzymes, produced by fermenting organic materials, have a pH of 4-5. Apples contain skin-beneficial compounds: fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. This research aimed to determine the impact of using this soap on the moisture of older adults' skin.   Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test design was used with a treatment group (n=33) using the soap for 7 days and a control group (n=33) receiving no intervention. The study was conducted on older adults who met the inclusion criteria. Skin moisture was measured using a digital skin analyzer and analyzed with a Wilcoxon test. Results: The results indicated no significant effect of the soap on skin moisture in either the treatment (p=0.063) or control (p=0.083) groups (p>0.05). The unexpected results were attributed to the short study duration and extreme weather conditions at the mountain's base. Conclusion: Given the challenging weather at the mountain's base, further research is necessary, with adjustments to the soap formula, a more extended research time, and a larger sample size.
