Abstract

Adolescents are a group that is vulnerable to mental health problems due to biological, psychological, and social changes. Limited knowledge and existing stigma contribute to the low efforts in early detection and management of mental health issues. This community service program aimed to improve adolescents’ knowledge of mental health through educational activities using an innovative board game. The activity was conducted at SMK Bhakti Utama Pati on September 23, 2025, involving 32 students from grade XI as participants. The methods used included lectures, interactive discussions, and an educational board game. Evaluation was carried out through pre-test and post-test, as well as a satisfaction survey. Mental health problems among adolescents are increasing, as shown by the pre-test results, with an average score of 76.27, indicating that adolescents’ understanding of mental health is still relatively low. This condition highlights the importance of engaging and effective educational interventions to raise awareness and enhance stress management skills among adolescents. The community service activity aimed to increase adolescents’ knowledge and awareness of mental health through the innovative media “Mental Health Snake and Ladder” (MINDSTEP). The implementation methods included preparation, interactive education using the game, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and understanding after the educational session. Participant satisfaction reached 93.75%, indicating that this game-based educational method was considered highly engaging and beneficial. The MINDSTEP program (“Mental Health Snake and Ladder”) proved to be an effective interactive educational tool in improving adolescents’ mental health literacy and can be replicated in various educational institutions as a promotive and preventive effort.

Abstract

Toddlerhood, especially during the first 1,000 days of life, is a critical phase for growth and development. Balanced nutrition during this period greatly determines children’s future health and development. Mothers play a central role in fulfilling children’s nutritional needs; therefore, effective education methods are required. This study aimed to examine the effect of video-based education on mothers’ knowledge of balanced nutrition for toddlers. The population consisted of all mothers of toddlers in Tanjung Sari Village, East Lampung. The sample was 64 mothers selected using total sampling. A pre-experimental design with one-group pretest-posttest was applied. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire before and after a 5-minute educational video, which was screened twice. Data analysis used a paired t-test to determine knowledge differences before and after the intervention. Results showed a significant improvement in mothers’ knowledge after the intervention (mean difference = 15.07; p < 0.001). Video-based education effectively increases mothers’ knowledge of balanced nutrition for toddlers. This medium is recommended for healthcare workers and posyandu cadres as an engaging, efficient, and easy-to-understand educational tool.

Abstract

Nutritional problems among children under five remain a public health concern in Indonesia, including in the working area of Semitau Public Health Center, Kapuas Hulu Regency. Nutritional status is an important indicator in assessing child growth and development. Nutritional disorders such as undernutrition, severe undernutrition, and stunting may have long-term impacts on health, cognitive development, and productivity. Therefore, regular monitoring of nutritional status is necessary to determine the nutritional profile of children under five in the Semitau Public Health Center area. Objective: This study aimed to describe the nutritional status of children under five based on Weight-for-Age (W/A), Height-for-Age (H/A), and Weight-for-Height (W/H) indicators, as well as to describe the characteristics of mothers and children. Methods: This study used a descriptive method with a retrospective approach. Data were obtained from the recap of child weighing results in March 2025 in the working area of Semitau Public Health Center. The study population consisted of 395 children aged 0–59 months, with 351 children meeting the inclusion criteria selected using total sampling technique. Data were analyzed univariately to obtain the frequency distribution of nutritional status. Results: Based on W/A, 77% of children had normal nutritional status, 13.5% were undernourished, 6.1% were severely undernourished, and 1.0% were overweight. Based on H/A, 62.1% were normal, 20.8% were stunted, 11.5% were severely stunted, and 1.8% were tall. Based on W/H, 76.4% had normal nutritional status, 7.9% were undernourished, 2.0% were severely undernourished, 3.1% were overweight, and 2.6% were obese. Conclusion: The majority of children under five in the Semitau Public Health Center area had normal nutritional status. However, the stunting prevalence of 32.3% remains high according to WHO classification. Strengthening nutritional monitoring through integrated health posts and providing parental education on balanced nutrition are recommended.
