Abstract

This metal forming technology dissemination activity involved three partners from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) engaged in the metal forming industry in the village of Karangsentosa, Karangbahagia District, Bekasi Regency. The main problem faced by partners is the difficulty in designing dies for the combination of piercing and blanking processes. This difficulty resulted in the piercing and blanking processes being carried out separately, resulting in less efficient production performance and higher production costs, thus requiring a reverse engineering process for some of its products. The method used in this dissemination process was an experimental method by doing reverse engineering on one of the products produced, namely the ducting corner. The purpose of this metal forming technology dissemination is to assist partners in increasing the efficiency of the production process by combining piercing and blanking processes into one process. In this metal forming technology dissemination activity, efficiency has been carried out from nine stages of the production process to five production processes. The combination of blanking and piercing processes using 1.2 mm SPCC-SD material for the production of ducting corners requires a minimum power press machine capacity of 18.3 tons. Further dissemination will be carried out by combining the piercing, blanking and bending processes by applying the progressives dies design.

Abstract

The development of computer technology has progressed very rapidly. CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines have come a long way in the last few decades. CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines were first introduced in the 1960s, and have undergone technological changes and improvements since then. A machine tool is very susceptible to inaccuracies resulting in a machine that is used for a long time and repeatedly can result in its feeding process. The deviating feeding process will greatly affect the quality of the workpiece. The purpose of this study was to determine the calibration process of CO2 CNC Laser Cutting Machines on the X and Y axes and the results for making machine feasibility decisions. The dial indicator tool will be used to determine the calibration results on a 2-axis CO2 Laser Cutting CNC machine for CO2 Laser Cutting. This CO2 CNC Laser Cutting Machine will be calibrated on each axis, namely the X and Y axes.

Abstract

Ring inject cavity mould is a crucial component in the injection stretch blow process used in plastic bottle manufacturing machines. This process involves five main steps: injection, conditioning, stretching, blowing, and ejecting. However, damage to the ring inject cavity mould is a common occurrence, necessitating periodic component replacement. The objective of this research is to identify a more efficient production method for manufacturing ring inject cavity moulds at PT BIL. Currently, the manufacturing process is carried out using a conventional lathe, which requires 64 hours to produce 16 pieces in a single work order. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) milling machine as a more efficient alternative. The methodology employed involves comparing the production time between the conventional lathe and CNC milling, as well as implementing a fixture as an auxiliary tool in the CNC milling process. The data collected includes production time and product quality. The research results indicate that the use of CNC Milling significantly reduces production time to only 24 hours for 16 rings in a single work order, compared to the 64 hours required by the conventional lathe. Additionally, the quality of the products produced also meets the expected standards. The conclusion of this research is that the transition from a conventional lathe to CNC milling with the use of a fixture can improve the production efficiency of ring inject cavity moulds at PT BIL, with faster production time and maintained quality.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to utilize low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plastic waste and used engine oil to produce alternative liquid fuel through the co-pyrolysis method. The co-pyrolysis process was carried out with various ratios of LDPE plastic waste and used engine oil, specifically 5:0, 5:1, 5:2, 5:3, and 5:4, within a temperature range of 165°C to 177°C for 1 hour. The characteristics of the resulting liquid products were tested to determine their calorific value, density, and viscosity. The results showed that the calorific value increased with the addition of used engine oil, reaching 11,061.67 cal/g at a 5:4 composition. The liquid products had an average density of 0.8686 g/mL, which was within the range of diesel fuel density. The viscosity of the liquid products also met gasoline standards, with an average value of <1 cSt. The highest yield efficiency reached 9.14 mL/kWh at a 5:4 composition with an efficiency of 1.93%, indicating significant potential in producing energy-efficient liquid fuel. This study sheds new light on the use of plastic waste and engine oil as environmentally friendly alternative liquid fuels.

Abstract

Polyoxymethylene (POM) is a type of thermoplastic that is frequently used in various industrial applications due to its good dimensional stability, corrosion resistance, and superior tensile strength. However, in certain applications such as locker tables, the weakness of this material is revealed in structural failures. This research uses the finite element simulation method to analyse the failure of a locker table exposed to a helical torsion spring. The main focus was on the fracture of the part connected to the helical torsion spring, a common problem in plastic material applications subjected to cyclic loading. Results showed that the fracture occurred at a stress level of 121.061 MPa, exceeding the yield strength value that should have been broken at 150 MPa. In addition, the analysis showed that the highest Von Misses stress occurred where the spring was located, exceeding the specified yield strength. Tensile tests showed the effect of ambient temperature on the tensile strength of the POM+25%GF material. The proposed solution through the development of an additional structure in the form of ribs on the product successfully increased the strength of the locker table under load. This research provides important insights in improving product design to minimise the risk of structural failure in POM+25%GF material.
