Abstract

This study evaluated the effectiveness of a solar-powered Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) integrated with a water filtration system in improving water quality. This study employed an experimental approach, comparing influent and effluent water quality to determine treatment efficiency. The results showed significant improvements in water parameters, with pollutant removal efficiencies of 31.54% for Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and 15.22% for pH reduction. The Dissolved Oxygen (DO) increased by 29.41% due to enhanced aeration. However, Electrical Conductivity (EC) increased by 46.07%, indicating the presence of dissolved ions post-treatment. The anaerobic-aerobic process effectively degrades organic pollutants, supported by bacterial activity, while the filtration system enhances water clarity and odor reduction. Despite these positive outcomes, the study has limitations, particularly the lack of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) measurements, which restricts a comprehensive assessment of organic pollution removal. Future research should incorporate these parameters to provide a more holistic evaluation of wastewater treatment performance.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the potential energy that can be generated from municipal solid waste (MSW) at Tamangapa landfill, check the adequacy of energy according to the target of 20 MW/day, and give consideration to WtE technologies that can be applied. The research began with a literature study, followed by a quantitative approach to calculate the potential energy that can be generated through incineration, gasification, pyrolysis, anaerobic digestion (AD) and fermentation WtE technologies. The results showed that the energy target of 20 MW/day from MSW in Makassar can be met through incineration (168.80 MW/day), gasification (28.29 MW/day) and pyrolysis (62.03 MW/day). However, if 20 MW/day is clean energy, then considering the energy conversion efficiency, 30.38 MW/day is obtained for incineration, 7.07 MW/day for gasification, and 15.51 MW/day for pyrolysis. Based on this calculation, only incineration technology can fulfil the 20 MW/day energy target as expected. In order to maximise the energy potential, it is recommended to use a combination of incineration WTE technologies for plastic, rubber, paper and fabric components, and pyrolysis for wood and food waste components.

Abstract

This paper explores how fisherwomen in Makassar mediate the compounded tensions of family obligation and economic labor of co-operation as they adjust to digital technologies in the Home and Industrial Social Center. With a qualitative descriptive design, which is supported by phenomenology and has a linkage-bridging viewpoint, the study looks at how digital literacy is transforming quotidian practices, moderating collaborative practice, and intertwining with culturally normative values that command shared practice. Fifteen participants were interviewed using in-depth interviews and participant observation and reviewed documents, which allowed gathering data related to the pragmatic experience, as well as the emotional and embodied aspects of digital engagement. The results suggest that the digital literacy is a transformative force that broadens the market, enhances the efficiency of the operations, and strengthens the feeling of agency in the fisherwomen. At the same time, it is associated with new stressors, such as physiological exhaustion, time disruption, and increased domestic tension levels in regard to prolonged online activity. Instead of reducing the dual burden, the digital tools re-structure it into a hybrid taxonomy of domestic, manual and digital work which the women have to negotiate all the time. The analysis of linkage-bridging shows that internal resources (siri Naa pacce and peer-based learning) are compatible with external digital resources to enable adaptive capabilities within the cooperative. This overlap brings about the Dual Digital Bridge framework which illustrates how local cultural values can be made in line with technological innovation in coastal locations.
