Abstract

Abstract

Pregnancy exercise offers numerous benefits for both mother and child. However, many pregnant women do not participate in this activity. This study aims to identify factors influencing pregnant women's participation in pregnancy exercise at Darussalam Health Center, Medan City. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 60 pregnant women visiting the Darussalam Health Center. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using Chi-square tests and logistic regression. The findings indicate that most pregnant women did not participate in pregnancy exercise. Knowledge of the benefits of prenatal exercise, positive attitudes toward exercise, and partner support were significant predictors of participation. Multivariate analysis confirmed that these three factors were independently associated with exercise participation. This study highlights the importance of knowledge, attitudes, and partner support in promoting prenatal exercise among pregnant women. Health education programs focusing on these factors could encourage more women to engage in regular physical activity during pregnancy.

Abstract

Background: The skin aging process, which is impacted by various variables, including genetics, advancing age, environmental conditions, and lifestyle choices, has emerged as a significant concern in skincare. Signs of skin aging, such as decreased firmness and elasticity and the appearance of fine lines and discoloration, have raised significant concerns. The link between free radicals and skin aging has been the subject of in-depth research, while collagenase activity has also been found to influence skin aging. The natural antiaging potential of herbal plants has been widely studied to overcome this problem, one of which is tamarillo (Solanum betaceum). Objectives: This study aimed to examine the antioxidant and antiaging properties of S. betaceum Peel Extract (SBPE). Method: Tamarillo peel was extracted using the maceration method. The antioxidant test was analyzed by trapping 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and the antiaging test was analyzed by collagenase inhibitory activity. Results: SBPE showed vigorous DPPH scavenging activity (IC50: 60.91 ± 0.36 ?g/mL), while SBPE also showed moderate collagenase inhibitory activity (IC50: 121.47 ± 2.32 ?g/mL). Conclusion: SBPE has high antioxidant activity and moderate antiaging activity.

Abstract

Skin aging is a complex process characterized by structural and functional loss of skin tissue. Aging is triggered by reactive oxidative stress (ROS), which activates enzymes involved in the aging process, such as elastase. Tamarillo is one of the natural plants that has various chemical compounds that have the potential to be antioxidants and anti-aging. The objective was to examine the antioxidant and antiaging activity of Tamarillo Fruit Extract (TFE). The H2O2 scavenging assay and anti-elastase assay were used. The result shows that TFE has a high antioxidant activity, as evaluated by H2O2 scavenging activity. The highest scavenging activity was found in a TFE concentration of 500 µg/mL (72.96%). Meanwhile, TFE shows its highest anti-elastase activity at a concentration of 66.67 µg/mL (32.33%). TFE's activity in both antioxidant and antiaging assays was concentration-dependent. The IC50 of the H2O2 assay was 278.20 µg/mL, and the IC50 of the anti-elastase assay was 110.67 µg/mL. Therefore, TFE shows its antioxidant and antiaging activities and has the potential to be used in further studies, both in vivo and clinical studies.

Abstract

There is a significant danger to human health from oxidative stress. This disorder does not have any apparent symptoms. However, it is linked to the start and progression of many diseases. There are also no established medical procedures for detecting oxidative stress. Finding out how oral administration of red pomegranate (Punica granatum) extract increases blood glutathione peroxidase levels in female rats (Rattus norvegicus) strains is the goal of this experimental quantitative study, which employs a pre-test-post-test control group design. Maximum physical activity was induced in Wistar rats. Twenty-four animals were used in the experiments, with six in each group. Three, four, and five milliliters of red pomegranate extract were used in this experiment. With an antioxidant value of 8.33 ppm, pomegranate extract (Punica granatum) was determined to have a very robust action, according to the research. In terms of composition, the 5-milliliter dose of red pomegranate (Punica granatum) extract outperforms the others when compared to average levels of glutathione peroxidase. Researchers discovered that supplementing with red pomegranate extract (Punica granatum) considerably raised glutathione peroxidase levels, suggesting that this fruit may aid in the body's antioxidant defenses against free radicals generated by strenuous exercise.
