Abstract

The lack of engaging and interactive learning media has been identified as a challenge in teaching magnetic materials in the IPAS subject for fifth-grade students. Conventional methods often fail to capture students' interest and enhance their understanding. This study aims to develop and evaluate an interactive crossword learning media based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) to address this issue. This research employs the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate). The study involved fifth-grade students from SD No. 2 Sedang, as well as expert validators in media, instructional design, and subject content. The developed learning media underwent expert validation, individual trials, small group trials, and a field trial to assess its feasibility and effectiveness. Data were collected through validation questionnaires, observations, and pre-test and post-test instruments, analyzed using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The results indicate that the developed media is highly feasible and significantly improves student learning outcomes. The interactive and problem-solving elements enhance engagement, motivation, and comprehension. Students showed a higher level of participation and interest, making the learning process more effective and enjoyable. This study highlights the importance of integrating interactive media into learning to foster critical thinking and student engagement. The findings suggest that this approach can be applied to other subjects to improve instructional quality. Further research is recommended to refine and expand the application of interactive learning media in different educational contexts.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low interest and participation of students in Social Science learning (IPAS) on the topic “My Proud Region”, which was caused by the use of monotonous and less interactive teaching methods. The purpose of this study was to develop and examine the effectiveness of a game-based Truth or Dare media for fifth-grade students. This research employed the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects were fifth-grade students at an elementary school, totaling 25 students. Data collection methods and instruments included questionnaires and tests. Data analysis was conducted using quantitative, qualitative, and inferential descriptive techniques. The results showed that the developed media had a high level of validity, was practical for use by teachers and students, and effectively improved student engagement and material comprehension. The t-test results indicated that H₀ was rejected and H₁ accepted, leading to the conclusion that the game-based Truth or Dare media is effective for teaching the Social Science topic “My Proud Region” to fifth-grade students. The implication of this study is that simple game-based media can serve as an innovative, contextual, and enjoyable alternative for learning, particularly in Social Science subjects at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Early reading skills are a fundamental foundation for students’ learning success at the elementary level, yet they often encounter challenges influenced by internal factors such as curiosity and self-confidence. This study aims to analyze the relationship between curiosity and self-confidence with students’ early reading skills. The research employed a quantitative approach with an ex-post facto design. The study population consisted of 27 students selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through performance tests to measure early reading skills and Likert-scale questionnaires to assess curiosity and self-confidence. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics as well as simple and multiple regression tests. The findings revealed a positive and significant relationship between curiosity and early reading skills, with a contribution of 39.6%. Furthermore, self-confidence also showed a positive and significant relationship with early reading skills, contributing 58.8%. Simultaneously, curiosity and self-confidence made a significant contribution to early reading skills with a total contribution of 60.3%. These results conclude that both internal factors play an essential role in developing students’ early reading skills. The implications highlight the importance of educators designing innovative and participatory learning strategies to foster students’ curiosity while strengthening their self-confidence in early reading activities.
