Abstract

ABSTRACT Teenagers are vulnerable to smoking habits, including the trend of using vapes which is attractive because of its various flavors and designs. However, vaping is at risk of causing lung disease, heart disease, brain development disorders, and nicotine addiction. Prevention is carried out by increasing adolescent knowledge through health education using audiovisual media . This study is a quasi-experimental study with one group pretest-posttest design, the research population was adolescents at SMPN 6 Surabaya. The research sample was 186 adolescents with random sampling technique. Data collection using a questionnaire on the level of knowledge, attitudes, and actions while data analysis using the Wilcoxon test . The results of the study of knowledge before being given health education showed that adolescents had sufficient behavior in preventing vape use . While knowledge after being given health education showed that adolescents had good knowledge in preventing vape use . There is a significant difference between adolescent knowledge in preventing vape use before and after being given education with audiovisual media. This should be the main focus of health workers who of course need to be assisted by schools and families in providing education regarding the dangers of vape use for adolescents. Likewise, adolescents are expected to become individuals who are more aware of the importance of maintaining health and are able to make decisions. Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a common menstrual pain complaint experienced by adolescent girls and can interfere with learning activities and overall quality of life. The management of dysmenorrhea encompasses not only pharmacological interventions but also non-pharmacological strategies, which are regarded as safer alternatives with minimal adverse effects. Among such approaches, physical therapy including abdominal stretching and effleurage massage has garnered attention. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of abdominal stretching and effleurage massage in alleviating dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls. The research design employed was a pre-experimental method utilizing a two-group pretest-posttest framework, consisting of two intervention groups without a control group. A total of 32 female students from Muhammadiyah 10 Senior High School Surabaya who experienced dysmenorrhea were selected using purposive sampling. The results showed a significant decrease in pain scale before and after the intervention in both groups. The group receiving effleurage massage showed a faster reduction in pain intensity compared to the abdominal stretching group. The average pain scale after treatment decreased significantly in both groups. Respondents reported feelings of relaxation and comfort after the intervention. No side effects were found during or after the therapy. Effleurage massage yielded more effective results in a shorter time. In conclusion, abdominal stretching and effleurage massage are effective in reducing dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls. These therapies can serve as safe and practical non-pharmacological treatment alternatives. This study is expected to be a reference for healthcare professionals and educators in providing education and holistic management of menstrual pain in adolescents.

Abstract

The Youth Red Cross (PMR) is a pioneer in the field of health in schools, which can play a role in assisting victims if they need Basic Life Support (BLS). The level of knowledge and skills of PMR members is significantly lacking regarding BLS actions, while victim handling and BLS actions require knowledge and skills. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of BLS Health Education on the Level of Knowledge and Skills of PMR Members at MAN 2 Kota Madiun. This research method is one group Pretest-Posttest with Wilcoxon sign rank analysis test. The intervention of this study was health education using PowerPoint media, booklets, and audiovisual. Before the intervention 19% had a good level of knowledge and after the intervention, 81% had a good level of knowledge with p=0.00. The skill level before the intervention was 0%, with no participants having a good skill level, 65% had a good skill level with p=0.00. The results of statistical tests show that there is an effect of BLS Health Education on the level of knowledge and skills of PMR members. Health Education with Audiovisual, PowerPoint, and Booklet can increase knowledge and skills in BLS Action because this method is an effective learning method that is easy for someone who receives the material. This media can be used for further research. Â
