Abstract

Up to now, employment in rural areas is still dominated by the primary sector, namely the agricultural sector. Especially the people in Panai Hulu Subdistrict, Labuhan Batu Regency, North Sumatra, still rely on the farming sector as a livelihood as a driver of the economy and to meet the needs of family life, which has a positive impact on improving the welfare of farmers. This study aimed to analyze the economic value and feasibility based on the scale of lowland rice farming in Panai Hulu District. The research analysis method is carried out by calculating the economic value and feasibility of farming by taking into account the economic value (production costs, revenue, income) and the feasibility value (B/C and R/C). The data collection method for this research was through interviews and field observations. The results showed the economic value and feasibility by grouping the average farmer with a land area scale of 0.5–1 ha per planting season. The research resulted in a production of 3,685 kg, total revenue of Rp. 15,430,370, the value of income obtained is Rp. 10,077,410. While the feasibility value of the Benefit–Cost Ratio (B/C) is 1.9 and the Revenue/Cost Ratio (R/C) is 2.9. Farmers with a scale of land area >1 ha per planting season produce 6,812 kg of production, total revenue of Rp. 28,363,030, and the value of the income obtained is Rp. 15,564,404. The Benefit – Cost Ratio (B/C) feasibility value is 1.3, and the Revenue/Cost Ratio (R/C) is 2.3. This value shows that the farming carried out is still quite feasible and appropriate compared to the costs incurred by farmers and has a positive impact on meeting the living needs of the farmer's family.

Abstract

Weeds are undesired plants to grow so weed management is expected to overcome losses caused by weeds. One way to manage weeds using herbicides is the chemicals used for weed management in plants. This study aims to determine the influence of weed management using herbicides on corn yields. The research was conducted in Sekoci Village, Besitang District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra in April-June 2021. This study used a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD), with 4 treatments and 3 replications, namely contact, systemic, weeding and weeds without management. The results showed that herbicide management significantly affected 100 seed weight, cob weight per plot and seed weight per plot, but had no significant effect on weed without management. It indicates that the treatment of weed management using herbicides affects plant growth and yield. Weed management for farmers is very important to prevent competition for nutrients between weeds and corn.

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to (1) identify the corn marketing channels, (2) determine the corn marketing margins, and (3) evaluate the efficiency of corn marketing in Tanjung Morawa District. Methodology: A sample of 30 corn farmers from three villages with corn farming areas was selected. A quantitative descriptive analysis was used to examine marketing channel patterns and analyze marketing costs and margins. Results: The study found that Marketing Channel I is widely used by farmers, who prefer selling corn directly to collectors. The marketing efficiency values for the first (I) and second (II) marketing channels are 10% and 16.6%, respectively. Findings: Both marketing channels are efficient. This indicates that the marketing channels involved in the marketing of shelled corn in the study area do not involve lengthy marketing institutions, resulting in low marketing costs and margins, and the selling price received by the final consumer is not much higher than the price received by the farmers. Novelty: This research provides insights into the efficiency of corn marketing channels, highlighting the benefits of shorter marketing pathways. Originality: The study offers a detailed analysis of marketing channel efficiency for corn, contributing to the understanding of effective agricultural product marketing. Conclusions: The corn marketing channels in Tanjung Morawa District are efficient, benefiting both farmers and consumers. Type of Paper: Empirical Research Article
