Abstract

Ethanol extract of virgin palm leaves (Catharantus roseus) contains active compounds that have potential as natural antibacterial. This study aims to test the antibacterial activity of the extract against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The leaves of the tread are extracted using the maceration method with a 70% ethanol solvent. The extraction results showed a yield of 6.1% and the identification of compound content showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and phenols. The antibacterial test was carried out by disc diffusion method using concentrations of 60%, 80%, and 100%. Antibacterial activity was tested by calculating the resulting inhibition zones against both types of bacteria. The results showed that in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, the concentration of 100% resulted in an inhibition zone of 11.66 mm which was classified as strong. In contrast, in Escherichia coli bacteria, the same concentration resulted in an inhibition zone of 2.66 mm which was in the weak category. This difference in effectiveness is due to the cell wall structure of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The results of this study identified that ethanol extract of virgin leaves has a greater potential for gram-positive bacteria than gram-negative. The ethanol extract of virgin leaves demonstrated antibacterial activity against both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, with stronger effects observed against S. aureus.

Abstract

Kata kunci: narkoba; remaja; sosialisasi;pendidikan kesehatan, pencegahan ABSTRACTDrug abuse among adolescents is a serious issue that threatens the future of the younger generation. The "SASAMBO" (Socialization of Drug-Free Youth) program is presented as an educational effort to increase students' awareness and knowledge about the dangers of drugs. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase students' knowledge in preventing drug-free. This activity was carried out at SMAN 1 Praya with the involvement of 26 students who are members of the Youth Red Cross (PMR), which was implemented on May 16, 2025. The methods used were interactive education, group discussions, and evaluation through pretests and posttests. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in student knowledge after participating in the socialization activity. This program not only provides information, but also forms a preventive attitude towards drug abuse. Thus, SASAMBO is a potential educational model to be implemented in other schools as a strategic step in early drug prevention. Keywords: drugs; adolescents; awareness campaign; health education; prevention

Abstract

Abstract

Moringa oleifera, known in Indonesia as "kelor," is often referred to as "the miracle tree" due to its natural nutritional and medicinal properties. Compounds found in Moringa leaf extract have been confirmed to include flavonoids. These compounds contain -OH groups attached to benzene rings, which contribute to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. The aim of this study was to identify secondary metabolites in Moringa leaves using the Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) method. The results showed that flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and saponins were present in the ethyl acetate fraction, while tannins were found in both the extract and aqueous fraction. Additionally, steroids were detected in the n-hexane fraction. In conclusion, Moringa oleifera contains secondary metabolite compounds.
