Abstract

Nutritional status in children under five is an essential indicator of a child's health and development. Good nutrition at this age is crucial because children are experiencing rapid growth and development during this period. This study aims to determine the factors related to nutritional status in children under five—a type of quantitative research with a cross-sectional study design. The number of samples used in this study was 43 toddlers using purposive sampling techniques. The results of statistical tests obtained a value of 0.038 for maternal age, 0.405 for occupation, and 0.600 for knowledge of maternal nutrition. It can be concluded that there is no relationship between nutritional status in children under five and maternal age, occupation, or knowledge. The nutritional status of children under five is an important issue that is influenced by several factors, including the mother's age, the mother's occupation, and the mother's knowledge of child nutrition. The mother's age can affect the success of breastfeeding practices and nutritional knowledge. The mother's work plays a role in family time and resource availability. The mother's knowledge of child nutrition influences food selection and feeding practices. Handling the nutritional problems of children under five requires a holistic approach that involves all relevant parties, including the government, health institutions, and the community.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is a global health problem that impacts children's growth and development. One of the main factors contributing to stunting is the lack of maternal knowledge about balanced nutrition. Nutrition education is expected to increase mothers' understanding of healthy eating and toddler stunting prevention practices. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of nutrition education on changes in maternal behavior in preventing stunting in toddlers. Materials and Methods: This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach with a control group. The sample consisted of mothers with toddlers, selected by purposive sampling. The intervention group was given nutrition education through counseling media and interactive discussions, while the control group did not receive the intervention. Results: The study showed a significant increase in mothers' knowledge and practice of nutrition after being given nutrition education (p<0.05). In addition, there were substantial differences between the intervention and control groups regarding stunting prevention behavior. Conclusions: Nutrition education has been proven effective in increasing maternal knowledge and behavior and preventing toddler stunting. Therefore, public health programs need to expand nutrition education interventions to reduce stunting incidence.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is a serious public health problem, especially in developing countries, and can long-term impact children's physical and cognitive development. The nutritional status of pregnant women plays an important role in the growth and development of the fetus, which can affect the risk of stunting in children after birth. This study aims to analyze the influence of the nutritional status of pregnant women on the incidence of stunting in early childhood. Research Methodology: This study uses a cohort study design involving pregnant women and their children under five years old. Data were collected through interviews, anthropometric measurements, and laboratory analysis to assess the mother's nutritional status, including macro and micronutrient intake. Result: The analysis showed a significant relationship between the nutritional status of pregnant women and the incidence of stunting in children. Pregnant women with good nutritional status have a lower risk of giving birth to stunted children compared to pregnant women who are malnourished. In addition, factors such as maternal education, economic status, and access to health services also contribute to the incidence of stunting. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the importance of adequate nutrition during pregnancy to prevent stunting in early childhood. Appropriate nutritional interventions and increased awareness of the importance of nutrition during pregnancy are urgently needed to improve maternal and child health. Recommendations for public health programs and nutrition policies were also discussed to address the stunting problem.

Abstract

Stunting is one of the health problems that is still highly prevalent in Indonesia, especially in toddlers. This condition has a long-term impact on children's physical growth, cognitive development, and productivity in the future. One of the main factors causing stunting is the ignorance of parents or caregivers about the importance of balanced nutrition in the child's growth period. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge and awareness, especially among mothers with toddlers, about the importance of providing balanced nutrition to prevent stunting. The method used in this activity is education through counseling, interactive discussions, and distribution of educational media through leaflets and posters. The activity was conducted at the Posyandu and involved health cadres and nutritionists. The evaluation results showed an increase in participants' knowledge by 75% based on the pre-test and post-test. This activity shows that direct and contextual balanced nutrition education can effectively prevent stunting in toddlers

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting is a public health problem that is still high in Indonesia, especially in rural areas. This condition has a long-term impact on a child's physical growth, cognitive development, and quality of life. Community nurses have an important role to play in stunting prevention and management efforts, particularly through a more holistic and sustainable family-based approach. Research Objectives To identify and analyze the strategies used by community nurses in tackling stunting through a family approach, as well as to understand the challenges faced in implementing these strategies at the community level.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem in developing countries, particularly among toddlers, as it affects physical growth, cognitive development, and future productivity. Nutritional management plays a crucial role in overcoming stunting, but parents often face challenges in providing adequate dietary intake due to limited knowledge, economic constraints, and lack of guidance. This community service program (PKM) aimed to strengthen parental involvement in managing toddler nutrition through structured home care nursing visits. The program was implemented with a participatory approach involving nurses, parents, and community health cadres. Home visits included nutritional assessments, individualized counseling, monitoring of toddler growth, and education on balanced diet preparation using locally available food resources. Nurses also provided practical demonstrations on menu planning and food processing to ensure nutrient adequacy. The evaluation showed improvements in parents’ knowledge and skills regarding child nutrition, with increased awareness of growth monitoring and the importance of dietary diversity. Furthermore, parents reported higher confidence in applying nutritional practices at home. These outcomes highlight that home care nursing visits can be an effective strategy to support parental roles in addressing stunting, particularly in low-resource settings. Strengthening family-centered care and promoting community engagement are essential to ensure the sustainability of nutritional improvements. This program demonstrates that empowering parents through direct home-based interventions can significantly contribute to reducing stunting prevalence and improving child health outcomes
