This article aims to explain how public speaking strategies for Mr. Tourism Sumatera Barat 2018 as a form of defending self image. The strategy that can be used is the strategy of telling Brown and Levinson about positive and negative faces. As the center of attention, a speaker must be able to maintain the face for an audience (audience) with the material presented. Public speaking training can be given in the form of material presentation and training using STAD type cooperative learning model. By using STAD type model, it is expected that the training participants can learn in their respective groups with directed instructors for the preparation of individual presentation. The results of the activities show that STAD model is effectively used to practice speech or public speaking. This is evident from the activity of the trainees following the material and confidence in public speaking.

Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan untuk menumbuhkan kreativitas siswa dalam menulis dengan menyajikannya dalam bentuk komik. Dalam proses pembelajaran menulis yang berlangsung selama ini, komik dijadikan sebagai media untuk merangsang kreativitas dan imajinasi siswa. Namun dalam kegiatan ini komik dijadikan sebagai produk atau hasil kegiatan menulis siswa yaitu dengan menampilkan tulisan dalam bentuk gambar yang memiliki tokoh latar dan alur sehingga mereka bisa menciptakan karakter dan isi cerita sendiri dengan gambar-gambar yang mereka senangi. Metode yang dilaksanakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah dengan memberikan pelatihan dalam bentuk tahap-tahap atau fase-fase kegiatan selama empat minggu dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian dijabarkan sebagai berikut. Pertama, untuk indikator tokoh diperoleh hasil 80 persen siswa mampu menciptakan tokoh. Kedua, untuk indikator alur diperoleh hasil sebanyak 70 persen siswa mampu merancang alur. Ketiga, untuk indikator tema, sebanyak 90 persen siswa mampu menyesuaikan cerita dengan tema. Keempat, untuk indikator gambar dan penggunaan bahasa, sebanyak 70 persen siswa mampu memadukan bahasa dan gambar menjadi komunikatif.

PERANAN YOUTUBE DALAM MENULIS ESAI POPULERAbstractThis paper discussed the use of YouTube as a media to teach essay writing. It is believed that writing is not an easy feat. The earliest stage in the activity of writing is generating ideas on what to write which can be garnered through reading or listening activities. This is to ensure that the topics to be written are about the latest issues which are able to attract readers’ interest. In this paper, steps to write popular essay by using YouTube broadcasting breaking news are fully elaborated. The use of visual media like YouTube is expected to incite the learners’ creativity. The use of YouTube is based on the fact that people like watching videos regardless to their function as a means of entertainment or source of information. All in all, writing popular essay does not only serve as a media to express ideas but also to change learners’ worldview.Keywords: writing, popular essay, YouTubeAbstrakMakalah ini membahas penggunaan YouTube sebagai media untuk mengajarkan menulis esai. Dalam tulisan ini, langkah-langkah untuk menulis esai populer dengan menggunakan YouTube akan diuraikan sepenuhnya. Penggunaan media visual seperti YouTube diharapkan dapat menarik kreativitas peserta didik. Penggunaan YouTube didasarkan pada fakta bahwa orang-orang suka menonton video tanpa memperhatikan fungsinya sebagai sarana hiburan atau sumber informasi. PELANGGARAN SKALA KESANTUNAN BERTUTUR PADA LIRIK LAGU BAPAK KERDUS: KAJIAN PRAGMATIK AbstractThis paper discusses the violation of the scale of politeness told in the lyrics of Bapak Kerdus. The development of songs in the world of music at this time began to not appropriate with propriety like a singer is a child but the song sung is not appropriate to be brought by the child. Early childhood education needs to be implemented to anticipate it. Discussing about the scale means discussing rankings. The scale of politeness is the rank of politeness ranging from the most polite to the very impolite. A very disrespectful thing can lead to a violation of the scale of politeness. Some indicators about the scale of politeness that experts say are Robin Lakoff, Brown and Levinson and Geoffrey Leech, in this paper will use the theory presented by Brown and Levinson. This discussion is based on the view that there is a causality relationship as a form of violation of politeness. The purpose of this study is to describe, discuss in more depth about the violation of the scale of politeness speaks what is contained in the lyrics of Bapak Kerdus song, what are the causes of dishonesty and what kind of insults contained in the lyrics of the song. This study also aims to describe the cause of violation of the scale of politeness of the said. This research applies descriptive qualitative method. The data collected in the form of words, images and not the numbers. This study contains data quotations to illustrate the presentation of the research. The data in this study is the lyrics of the song. The lyrics of the song are referred to as documents. The technique of analyzing documents is content analysis. Content review is technique used to draw conclusions through the discovery of message characteristics, and is done objectively and systematically. Data collection is done by recording the lyrics of songs that are heard from the music player. Perkembangan lagu dalam dunia musik saat ini mulai tidak sesuai dengan kepantasan seperti penyanyi adalah anak-anak namun lagu yang dinyanyikan tidak pantas dibawakan oleh anak tersebut. Pendidikan pada anak usia dini perlu diterapkan untuk mengantisipasi hal itu. Membahas tentang skala berarti membahas tentang peringkat. Skala kesantunan merupakan peringkat kesantunan mulai dari yang paling santun sampai pada yang sangat tidak santun. Hal yang sangat tidak santun dapat menyebabkan pelanggaran terhadap skala kesantunan. Beberapa indikator tentang skala kesantunan yang disampaikan para ahli dantaranya Robin Lakoff, Brown dan Levinson serta Geoffrey Leech, pada tulisan ini akan menggunakan teori yang disampaikan oleh Brown dan Levinson. Pembahasan ini dilandasi pandangan bahwa terdapat hubungan kausalitas sebagai bentuk dari pelanggaran kesantunan tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan, membahas secara lebih mendalam tentang pelanggaran skala kesantunan bertutur apa saja yang terdapat pada lirik lagu Bapak Kerdus, apa saja penyebab ketidaksantunan dan jenis makian apa yang terdapat pada lirik lagu tersebut. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penyebab terjadinya pelanggaran skala kesantunan bertutur tersebut. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Data yang dikumpulkan berupa kata-kata, gambar dan bukan angka-angka. Penelitian ini berisi kutipan-kutipan data untuk memberi gambaran penyajian pada penelitian. Data pada penelitian ini adalah lirik lagu. Lirik lagu tersebut disebut sebagai dokumen. Teknik menganalisis dokumen adalah analisis isi (content analysis). Kajian isi adalah teknik apa pun yang digunakan untuk menarik kesimpulan melalui usaha menemukan karakteristik pesan, dan dilakukan secara objektif dan sistematis. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara mencatat kembali lirik lagu yang didengar dari alat pemutar musik.Kata Kunci: Pelanggaran, Skala, Kesantunan, Bertutur , Lirik, Lagu

This study aims to identify contextual meanings that reflect the culture of the Minangkabau people found in Wisran Hadi's Persiden novel. This is so that readers can immediately get to know the culture of the Minangkabau people who are full of meaning. This type of research is qualitative using the content analysis approach. Data are classified based on their contextual meanings, and the final step is understanding the Minangkabau culture as a setting in Wisran Hadi's Persiden novel. The results of this study are as follows, first in Wisran Hadi's Persiden novel Contextual meaning when viewed from linguistic context, figurative language describes about the culture of Minangkabau people on average, from the emotional context used to evoke memories or emotional feelings towards change and memories of adat the tradition that began to shift, from the site context the author tried to present a turbulent situation in the life of Minangkabau people today, whereas from the cultural context it was shown that the author used terms that were very close to the life of the Minangkabau people, so that they could become cultural markers. Second, the relation of contextual meaning to the understanding of the culture of Minangkabau people in Wisiden Hadi's Persiden novel is found in many parables about the matrilineal system adopted by the Minangkabau people, one of which is the position of men in marriage. Wisran Hadi is like a reminder of the Minangkabau customs of the past, such as the function of Mamak and the position of Semenda.

This research is motivated by the problem of the relationship between women and nature with male power which is reflected poetically by Dorothea Rosa Herliany in two poems entitled "Nikah Sungai" and "Nikah Pisau". Based on that problem, this study aims to describe (a) the power of male patriarchal necrophilia over women; and (b) the attitude of women as an effort to free themselves from the necrophiliac power of men. The research method used is qualitative with descriptive content analysis techniques. The research findings show two things. First, the poems "Nikah Sungai" dan "Nikah Pisau" reflect men's efforts to destroy women's natural reproductive abilities using the power of necrophilia through manipulating various natural resources such as plants, rocks, sand, animal carcasses, soil, and poison as weapons. Second, the attitude of women's resistance to the power of male necrophilia which is reflected by Dorothea in her two poems is manifested in acts of physical violence such as stabbing the heart and tearing the male genitalia.

The meaning of homophones is a part of the vocabulary that is difficult to understand because the sound when the pronunciation is the same but the meaning is different. For example, the words to, two and too spoken by English users will sound the same. This causes missinterpretation in giving meaning. Along with that, basically advances in communication technology have made it easier for students to learn English related to the meaning of the homophone. Students can also learn this through various applications such as Facebook, Snack Video, Tik Tok as a teaching resource in exploring the meaning of homophones in English. In addition, students can also communicate in English with various countries based on this communication technology. The problem is that although advances in communication technology have provided space and opportunities for students to master English related to the meaning of homophones, there are still many students who do not understand the use of the meaning of homophones in English. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which students understand the meaning of the use of homophone words such as to, two and too to students in the lecture room. This research consists of three study rules. First, the rule of study uses the rules of a questionnaire to 500 students from various universities. Apart from that, the reviewer also used the rules of in-depth interview (In-Depth Interview) to 5 informants. The analysis of the study uses quantitative and qualitative rules where the reviewer will emphasize student speech and explanations supported by information from study informants. The objective of research about ability of the student university level how to read and heard the homophone word by the lecturer. From the analysis of the data, it can be concluded that the students easily understanding read the homophone and difficult the homophone, like to, two and too. The rule family institution teaching homophone English language to their children can improve about English language ability especially understanding homophone, like to, two and too. Besides that, communication technology can help the student learning English language about homophone.

This research is motivated by the problem of gender inequality issues in women's lives that are still often reported by the mass media. Among the mass media that reported this was the daily newspaper Kompas, especially in an opinion piece entitled Perempuan dan Mimpinya published on June 6, 2024. Based on the background of the problem depicted in the Women and Their Dreams (Perempuan dan Mimpinya) opinion, the purpose of writing this article is to describe how women are viewed by the mass media and their relationship to the current social reality of society. The collection of research data was carried out using reading techniques, including the steps of reading carefully and repeatedly the opinions that were the source of research data, marking vocabulary, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs that were in accordance with the criteria of the research problem, recording and inventorying them in an inventory table. The data was analyzed using an interactive method to reveal the position of women behind the text Women and Their Dreams (Perempuan dan Mimpinya) and its relationship to the current social reality of society. Analysis of the research data shows three things. First, the position of the subject in the discourse of the Perempuan dan Mimpinya opinion is occupied by the author who acts as the storyteller, while the position of the object is occupied by women. Second, the author tries to direct the reader to become the actor of the story by presenting a pseudo reality and cultural code in the text that seems to be the reality in the reader's real life. Third, the meaning of the entire discourse of opinion on Women and Their Dreams shows that in the domestic and public spaces women are still not fully able to become a gender group that is equal to the masculine gender group.

This study discusses the author's speech acts and how they were utilised in his work. In the novel Limpapeh by Ar. Rizal, this study will describe speech acts in the form of code mixing that create code mixing, forms of code mixing, and the function of code mixing. In addition to showing cultural identity, the code mixing used by the author can also serve as an affirmation or explain something, showing familiarity with certain calls as a form of respect for others. Thus, the author deliberately inserts the term area of origin as part of his identity. Readers can recognize the culture of an area, especially Minangkabau from the works they produce. This research will describe the factors that cause code mixing, code mixing functions, and types of code mixing in the speech of the Limpapeh novel characters. The method used in this study is a reflective-introspective analysis method. It is possible that the phenomenon of using language is lived in everyday life. Provision of data in this study in the form of written text. The code mixing that occurs is conveyed by the author through the naming of cooking spices, dishes, people's names and proverbs or terms commonly used in the Minangkabau community. In AR RIZAL's novel Limpapeh, the type of speech act used in Minangkabau society is forceful speech with the style of asserting.
