Abstract

In the context of communication needs in public spaces, the role of a Master of Ceremony (MC) is currently considered very important, not only for informal events, but also for very formal events. It is said that because in official events, the MC is the spearhead who delivers or guides the event, from the opening to the closing of the event. Based on this idea, Master of Ceremony (MC) training for important official events is given to all parties who have an interest in this, including teachers at SD IT Ar Royan Padang. The official MC training activity was given to six teachers at SD IT Ar Royan through lecture methods and practical methods or performance for two days. After completing the training, it was clear that there were three main problems faced by the six training participants, namely a) their ability to manage their vocals was not optimal; b) body language that is not in accordance with the performance needs of an MC at an official event; and c) inadequate mastery of Indonesian grammar. The implication of the results of this activity is that it is important for SD IT Ar Royan to hold similar training activities with more varied methods and approaches.

Abstract

Abstract

Avoid devoting too much space for introduction or background, which is unnecessary. Various phenomena of popular culture today have become an inseparable part of the dynamics of societal development. Various applications are also created as products of popular culture. Current applications reflect the culture that is widely used or popular. Popular culture is the culture that is liked by many people and can be easily found on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. This research uses qualitative methodology as a research procedure that produces descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from people and observed behaviors. Characteristics can be identified from the storytelling strategies used. The digital discourse used by someone generally employs commissive speech acts such as giving challenges, proposing, and offering with strategies that mark group identity, as well as amplifying attention, approval, and sympathy. The phenomenon that supports the rise of popular culture on contemporary applications allows users to freely express themselves. TikTok users engage in conversation to create attraction, making the opposite sex more interested. From the types of speech acts and communication strategies used, the characteristics of digital speech employed in contemporary applications can be identified. This research provides deeper insights into how digital technology is changing communication patterns in the context of matchmaking and offers a new perspective in the study of digital linguistics and interpersonal communication. This research also shows the shifting Eastern cultural values between men and women. It is hoped that the findings from this research can contribute to the development of more effective matchmaking applications, as well as enrich the understanding of the impact of technology on human interactions.

Abstract

Strong speaking skills are an essential component of pharmaceutical practice, particularly when delivering medication information with appropriate professionalism and empathy toward patients. However, oral communication training in pharmacist professional education often remains overlooked. In response to this gap, this community engagement program aimed to enhance the speaking abilities of students in the Apothecary Professional Program at Universitas Perintis Indonesia through the use of the role play technique. Ten students participated in the training, which was conducted in two sessions: a theoretical session and a practical session focusing on speaking skills related to pharmaceutical issues through role play. During the practice session, eight pharmacist–patient communication scenarios were designed and enacted by the participants. Evaluation was carried out using an observation checklist covering five main indicators: sentence structure, diction, intonation, therapeutic messaging, and patient responsiveness. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in the students’ ability to convey information orally in a more communicative, clear, and empathetic manner. The role play technique proved effective not only in enhancing technical speaking skills but also in fostering students’ awareness of the importance of humanistic and professional communication in pharmacy practice. Consequently, integrating this method into the curriculum emerges as a strategic approach to preparing future pharmacists who are both clinically competent and sensitive to patients’ needs.
