Abstract

Handline is a fishing gear that is selective about the catch and is a fishing gear that is passive or in the process of catching it there is a waiting period. The waiting period for the handline is the time when the bait is waiting for the fish to eat it. The depth of the hook on KM Viona III varies. The depth is divided into 2 groups between 45-60 m and 67.5-82.5 m. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not there was an effect of differences in hook depth on catches by paired sample test t-test using SPSS 24. Based on the Wilcoxon test, non-parametric test hook depth test for total catches presented by SPSS 24 with asymp values .sig of 0.041. Because 0.041 < 0.05 means that there is a difference in catches based on the number of fish and it can be concluded that there is also an effect of hook depth on the number of catches, and the weight of the catch has a value of 0.023. Because the value is 0.023 <0.05, H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means that there are differences in the weight of the catch at different depths and it can be concluded that there is also an effect of the depth of the hook on the weight of the catch. which was carried out at the Cilacap Ocean Fishing Port and participated in a 32-day arrest operation at KM Viona III.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the vibration levels of the refrigeration compressor on the fishing vessel Binama 07 Jakarta to evaluate operational conditions and detect potential component failures. Measurements were conducted using a vibration meter in three directions horizontal, vertical, and axial and a digital tachometer to determine the engine’s rotational speed in RPM. The assessment refers to ISO 20816-3:2022, a standard used to classify the condition of rotating industrial machinery. Vibration data collected from November 3–23, 2024, showed that most values fell within Zone B (acceptable), while some reached Zone C (not recommended for long-term operation). Only two days, November 12 and 23, recorded values in Zone A (good), with a vibration level of 1.6 mm/s. No data fell into Zone D (dangerous), indicating no signs of extreme vibration. However, consistent readings in Zone B and occasional spikes into Zone C suggest early signs of machine condition degradation. These findings have significant implications for the performance of the ship’s cooling system, as excessive vibration can affect the stability of the storage temperature for the catch. In the fishing industry, unstable temperatures can directly impact product quality and market value. Therefore, regular vibration monitoring is recommended as a predictive maintenance strategy to maintain optimal performance of the refrigeration system on fishing vessels.

Abstract

The escalating need for animal protein has stimulated the growth of the capture fisheries industry. However, undue carelessness concerning the maintenance and operation of fishing vessels often results in scenarios that pose serious risks, even leading to fatal accidents. In Karawang District, the high spirit of fishermen in setting sail plays a major role in boosting the productivity in the capture fisheries sector. Yet, the awareness of the importance of using personal safety equipment while at sea remains disappointingly low. The Fish Capture Study Program of the Politeknik Kelautan dan Perikanan Karawang set out to organize a training sessions aimed for enhancing the fishermen’s awareness of safety during their voyages. These sessions are a manifestation of the social responsibility in empowering the community and promoting sustainable development. Through presentations, and direct demonstrations, fishermen are instructed on various aspects of safety during their voyage. The training includes techniques for self-preservation at sea, use of the red hand flare, activation of parachute signals, and smoke signals during emergencies, as well as the use of life buoys and life jackets to enhance safety at sea. This community service activity was attended by 20 fishermen residing on the coast of Karawang District. The initiative attempts to strike a balance between the urgency to meet the growing demands for animal protein, and the obligation to promote safe and sustainable practices in the capture fisheries sector.
