Abstract

Base on the survei and field visiting at the location of dockyard industry, thestate of traditional dockyard management and technology reported. Traditionaldockyards use wood as raw materials for building mostly small fishing boat of less than5 GT. The location of dockyard is built open on the bank of riverside in the coastal areawithout any covered building. Facilities in the traditional dockyard as well asinfrastructure ro the location are almost nothing deliberately built. The dockyardpersists on the wetland environment, swampy area, and unhealthy working condition. The management of the dockyard is family wise as it belongs to the one core family, butthe boat craft man mostly recruite from extended family. While the technology usedmostly come from the long experiences working in the famili or other dockyard. Themain problem of the traditional dockyard is the raw wood materials are scarce anddifficult to get it, except by high price, whilst capital to secure materials stockunavailable. The consequence, five of seven traditional dockyard surveied have beenstopping to product a new boat; and frustrating to pace the future. The probableeffective idea of way out to the situation is to use alternative wooden materialsubstitution such as FRP.

Abstract

Base on the survey and field visiting at the industry location, the state of traditional dockyardindustry in Bagansiapiapi is reported. Traditional dockyards use wood as raw materials for buildingsmall boat of less than 5 GT for cargo or passenger as well as fishing boats. The location of dockyard isbuilt open on the bank of riverine in the coastal area without any covered building. Even facilities in thetraditional dockyard as well as the way to the location are almost no any infrastructure to support it. Thedockyard persists on the wetland environment, swampy area, and unhealthy working condition. Themanagement of the dockyard is family wise as it belong to the one core family, but the boat craftmenmostly extent family. While the technology used mostly is not deliberately heritage from their ancient orotherwise from the long experiences working in the dockyard for many years. The main problem of thetraditional dockyard is the raw wood materials are scare so that difficul to get with high costly price, whilst capital to secure matereials stock unavailable. The consequence, three of four traditional dockyartsurveyed have already or stopping to product a new boat and frustrating to pace the future. The probableeffective idea way out of the situation is to use alterentive boat substitute material such as FRP. Thisidea will be verified by following studies on modern dockyard producing small boat with using alterna-tive non-wood material. It is necessary as a reference for the transformation of the traditional dockyardinto the modern one.

Abstract

This paper discussed the productivity and economic efficiency of the fishing boat for giant threadfish (Eletheronema tetradactylum), which operated in the Malacca Straits. Eleven fishing boats with different weights (GT) were observed for their input as total cost and output as total benefit in order to calculate respective fishing boat productivity and  efficiency. It was found that fishing boat activities on giant threadfish using various boat sizes were efficient with BCR>1 and profitable.  However, the average economic efficiency of all boats was 1.65 with the highest efficiency of 1.74 for the 2 GT fishing boat.  The average productivity of the fishing boat was Rp 4.5 million or Rp 1.5 million/GT with its capital payback period of 29 months. The highest productivity was found on the 2 GT fishing boat of Rp 5.5 million or Rp 2.8 million/GT with its capital payback period of 27 months. However, The 4 GT fishing boat was recommended to be developed for artisanal fishery of giant threadfish because its economic efficiency was relatively high of 1.71 and its produktivity was Rp 5.1 million or Rp 1.3 million/GT with capital payback period of 29 months.   Keywords: economic efficiency, fishing boat,  Eletheronema tetradactylum, payback period

Abstract

In order to find out the condition of fishery ship machine workshopmanagement, problems and solutions, so as developing workshop management, survey had been held in three workshops in Dumai city on Juli 2007. Informationand data are collected through interviews with fishery ship machine workshopowner, fishermen, worker and related person in this field. SWOT analysis andfinancial analysis are applied to digest the data as project evaluation to drawdecision about its devolopment strategy.Workshop is a room building which is needed to carn a product includingmechanical activities and fixing ship body parts. Workshop is functioned as aplace to repair the ship machine. In the fishery ship machine workshop in Dumaicity, some already have enough supporting equipment. However, a goodworkshop is a workshop which owns a complete tools and specialized technicianto handle the ship repairment.Based on the SWOT analysis of fishery ship machine workshop in Dumaiwhich is in coordinate I, it can be develoved with the strategy of gasping theopportunity available aggressively and expansively by using the power provided.Meanwhile the financial analysis in 20 % discount factor for 20 years calculationcan be reached NPV, BCR, IRR and PPC that can be beneficial from the threefishery ship machine workshops in Dumai. Finally, the work of fishery shipmachine workshop is deserve to be continued and should be develoved, yet thebusiness license matter and the workshop services should be managed well infuture.

Abstract

Abstract

Gas emission and temperature as result of fuel used in diesel engine of a fishing boat were ineasu red, in order to know its impact on fisherman comfortness as well as also can use to understand its share in global wartning or climate change. The temperature of emission gas of solar is stable increase proportional top the engine round (rpm). it is similar with mixture biofuel but the increase rate of emission gas of tile mixture biofuel rather low, even the gas emission temperature of 65% biofuel+35% solar tincture decrease as engine round (rpm) increasing. Similarly to the water cooler temperature of engine, but almost stable specially during the engine round of 500rpm to 2200 rpm. it shows that engine water cooler effectively absorp the engine temperature so that the temperature of engine tend to decrease as it indicates by the temperature of oh. Generally the oh temperature decrease as the engine round increase, as it is a reflection of engine temperature too. The emission gas of biofuel+ solar mixture from exhaust pipe almost without color and no aroma, while the color of solar fuel deeply black with uncomfort smelly. The emission gas of biofuel+ solar mixture from exhaust pipe almost without color and no aroma, while the color of solar fuel deeply black with uncomfort smell.
