Abstract

This study aims to examine the importance of Arabic in the development of Islamic education and culture on the Island of a Thousand Mosques, the nickname for Lombok Island, which is famous for its numerous mosques and the religious life of its people. Arabic, as the language of the Qur'an, plays a central role in strengthening religious understanding, improving the quality of Islamic education and culture, and shaping the Islamic identity of the local community. This study used a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews and field observations in several Islamic boarding schools and madrasas on Lombok Island. The results show that mastery of Arabic not only functions as a means of religious communication but also as a main pillar in the process of internalizing Islamic cultural values. Arabic has proven to be the main medium for studying yellow books, reading the Qur'an, and character education based on Islamic educational and cultural values.

Abstract

Arabic holds a strategic position in understanding the hadith and sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a source of Islamic teachings after the Qur'an. Hadith and sunnah were conveyed, narrated, and codified in Arabic, which has complex linguistic characteristics and is rich in meaning. This article aims to analyze the implications of Arabic on hadith and sunnah from the perspectives of ontology, epistemology, and axiology. This study uses a qualitative approach with a library research method through an analysis of classical and contemporary literature relevant to the study of Arabic and hadith science. The results of the study indicate that ontologically, Arabic is an existential medium that determines the structure and authentic meaning of hadith and sunnah. Epistemologically, mastery of Arabic serves as the main methodological instrument in acquiring, interpreting, and verifying hadith knowledge through linguistic sciences. Meanwhile, axiologically, a comprehensive understanding of Arabic has implications for the application of hadith and sunnah values contextually, moderately, and oriented towards the benefit. Thus, Arabic cannot be separated from the study of hadith and sunnah, both at the conceptual and practical levels, so that strengthening Arabic language competence is an urgent need in the development of contemporary Islamic studies.

Abstract

The concept of destiny in the Qur'an is one of the most fundamental theological knowledge that continues to be reread over time. This article aims to analyze destiny through three philosophical frameworks of science: ontology, epistemology, and axiology, and to relate them to the dynamics of the contemporary era. Ontologically, this study asserts that destiny in the Qur'an is rooted in the belief in the omnipotence and omniscience of God, which encompasses the creation, arrangement, and determination of all phenomena, without negating the role of human will and effort. Epistemologically, this study describes the sources of knowledge about destiny through the texts of the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the rational reasoning of classical and modern scholars, thus demonstrating that the understanding of destiny develops through a dialectic between text and context. From an axiological perspective, this article emphasizes the ethical and practical implications of the concept of destiny in addressing contemporary problems such as technological determinism, existential anxiety, and moral crisis. Using a literature review method and a thematic analysis approach to Quranic verses and modern theological works, this study finds that the concept of destiny is not fatalistic, but rather directs humans toward an ethos of effort, moral responsibility, and cosmic order that aligns with the principles of the sunnatullah (God's will). This study contributes to strengthening a moderate, rational, and applicable theological understanding, making it relevant to the development of Islamic knowledge in the contemporary era.

Abstract

This study examines the existence of Arabic vocabulary in the teachings of the Naqsyabandiyah Order in Lombok as part of the dynamics of the transmission of Islamic religious traditions in the local context of the Indonesian archipelago. The focus of the study is directed at the Arabic lexical forms used in the terminology of the teachings, rituals, and practices of the Naqsyabandiyah Order and their adaptation process in the language of the Sasak people. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a linguistic-sociological approach, through observation, in-depth interviews, and analysis of the order's teaching documents. The research findings show that many key terms in the Naqsyabandiyah, such as dhikr khafi, talqin, suluk, and mursyid, have undergone a layered process of re-interpretation between Arabic etymological meanings and contextual meanings of Lombok culture. This adaptation does not eliminate the Arabic identity of the vocabulary, but rather strengthens the order's spiritual legitimacy and becomes the religious identity of its community of adherents. Thus, the existence of Arabic vocabulary in Naqsyabandiyah in Lombok is not only linguistic, but also symbolic and cultural, which also influences local religious patterns and the construction of spiritual authority.
