Abstract

One of the common insects that attack tomato plant is whitefly (Bemisiatabaci Genn.). One of those classified as entomopatogen is Verticillium lecanii. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of V. lecaniispore density on B. tabaci mortality in tomato plants. The study was conducted from January to April 2017 and located in a screening house belonging to the Department of Plant Pest and Disease and Plant Pest and Disease Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Tadulako University. This study used a randomized block design consisting of five treatments including control with three replications so that there are 15 experimental units. The spore density ofV. lecanii consisted of five levels i.e. control (without treatment, p0), 10-3 Spores ml-1 (p1), 10-6 Spores ml-1 (p2),10-9 Spores ml-1(p3) and 10-12 Spores ml-1 (p4). Based on the results of the study, 10-3Spores ml-1 was the spore density that caused the highest mortality of B. tabaci with the mortality of 96.67% within eight days after the application, so the use of V. lecanii was quite effective as a bioinsecticide in controlling imago B. tabaci.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to get a fresh way of processing cocoa beans or cocoa beans are not fermented into (1) dry cocoa bean  with traits such as fermented, (2) powder-paste dry beans with traits such as fermented, through the removal of the pulp and seed coat cocoa, as well as pH and temperature control as well as certain long. Stages of the study consisted of : stages of treatment research 1 Introduction the determination of the cocoa beans before incubation, 2. Determination of treatment introduction to cocoa beans before incubation and incubation media solution pH determination, 3. Determination of treatment introduction to cocoa beans before incubation and incubation media concentration, 4. Incubation process conditions and incubation media concentration. The results showed that the fermentation cocoa with formic acid buffer immersion obtained results with the highest nitrogen index and the highest acidity at a concentration of 48 to 175 mM in incubation buffer using formic acid, are the best conditions for dry cocoa beans. The results of the color index during incubation at 12, 24, 36 and 48 hours of incubation media with 175 mM concentration 0.9440; 0.9952; 1.0961, and 1.1623. So the application of the cocoa beans using Formic acid as a medium 175 mm marinade for non pulp cocoa beans for 36 to 48 hours. Fermented cocoa with acid immersion liquor acetate gives the expected product form acceptable to the consumer. The use of acetate acid is a material that is very cheap and easily available in the market. Key Words : Cacao, cocoa bean, fermentation, processing.

Abstract

The study was conducted to evaluate effects of varied concentrations of methanol extract of lemongrass, Andropogon nardus L. (10.5%, 9.5%, 8.5%, 7,5%, 6.5%, and 0% as control) on mortality andfeeding activity of the third-instars of P.xylostella larvae. It was used a randomized complete designwith three replicates. The results showed that the leaf extract of Andropogon nardus at 8.5 % wasthe best treatment as it could caused high mortality of P. xylostella (66.67 %) and it was able todeter the feeding activity up to 82.66 %. The data suggested that extracts of Andropogon narduscontains toxic oil and feeding activity repellant.Key words: Diamondback moth, insecticidal activity, lemon grass.

Abstract

The research aim was to develop a mass rearing technique of D. thoracicus by means of creating an artificial nest and to apply such technique as means to control cocoa pod borer (CPB) in small holder plantations. The research was carried out using experimental design and survey methods. The research consisted of different stages of experiments: (i) application of the artificial nest in the cocoa plantation, (ii) data record of cocoa pod borer attack level, (iii) analysis of dispersal pattern, and (iv) analysis of the cocoa production. Results of the research showed that the population density of D. thoracicus in the artificial nest sited on the primary branch was 8-9 times (12 % - 15%) higher than that on the jetty stem and main stem. The application of D. thoracicus by the artificial nest for controlling CPB could suppress the percentage of pod borer attack by 5%, bean damage by 42.95% and bean weight reduction by 21.03%. The analysis of dispersal pattern, based on the distribution pattern by Southwood (1997) in which Z<-1.96 or x mean < S2, showed that during three periods of observations, D. thoracicus tended to cluster.

Abstract

Predator Dolichoderus thoracicus is a highly potential and has sound prospect in the future as biological control agent against cocoa pod borer (CPB), Conopomorpha cramerella because D. thoracicus function as a predator on cocoa plantation.   This research aimed to determine: (a) effective technique of the predator D. thoracicus application in artificial nest established at people cocoa plantation, (b) level of cocoa bean damage, (c) distribution pattern of D. thoracicus, (d) cocoa production analysis result. Research consisted of several phases including setting up artificial nest in cocoa plantation, recording data of cocoa pod borer attack level and analysing the cocoa production.  Results showed that exploiting D. thoracic us could reduce the CPB attack by 8.28%, lower the percentage of bean damage by 25.36%, and reduce the loss of cacao bean weight by 16.14%

Abstract

Human activities may influence the diversity of aquatic insects in rivers. This study aims to assess the diversity of aquatic insects and their relation with mercury levels and water quality along rivers located near the gold mine in Poboya, Central Sulawesi. The insects were collected at six locations based on human activity levels. At each site, the mercury level of water was measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). In addition, water temperature, acidity, dissolved oxygen, and total dissolved solids were determined. The study recorded 23 species of aquatic insects belonging to 7 orders and 14 families. Mercury levels in the rivers did not exceed the threshold except at two sites and did not affect aquatic insects’ diversity. The diversity of aquatic insects, however, tends to decrease downstream. The diversity of aquatic insects, particularly the Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera orders, tended to be higher at the higher dissolved oxygen sites.

Abstract

This study aims to determine and understand the performance of plantation field extension workers who work in the context of managing the National movement program of cocoa in Sigi Regency. This research uses the performance theory proposed by Robbins, consisting of 3 main aspects of assessment, namely: motivation, ability, and opportunity. The research method used, qualitative with a descriptive approach, involved a number of informants interviewed during the study, in addition to displaying as supporting data secondary, the results of the study of literature and the study of documents. This study concluded that the performance of agricultural extension workers working in the National movement program for cocoa in Sigi Regency has not been maximized, not only due to aspects of: motivation, ability, and opportunity, but also caused by various other factors.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji perbedaan tingkat adopsi petani terhadap komponen Pengendalian Hama Terpadu antara petani alumni Sekolah Lapang Pengendalian Hama Terpadu dan petani yang belum mengikuti Sekolah Lapang Pengendalian Hama Terpadu tanaman Bawang merah. Metode penelitian digunakan dalam bentuk survei secara random dengan wawancara langsung kepada responden petani dengan pertanyaan yang telah tersaji dalam kuisioner. Sampel responden petani sebanyak 40 orang yang terdiri dari 20 orang petani SLPHT dan 20 orang petani Non SLPHT. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat adopsi petani SLPHT lebih tinggi daripada petani Non SLPHT dengan nilai rata-rata yaitu 14,30 untuk petani SLPHT dan 10,25 untuk petani non SLPHT serta terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi tingkat adopsi dengan tingkat adopsi petani SLPHT terhadap komponen PHT yaitu faktor keuntungan relatif (6,73), kompabilitas (6,99), kompleksitas (10,65), triabilitas (15,38), observabilitas (14,17) dan keputusan inovasi (9,37).

Abstract

Kakao (Theobroma cacao L.) merupakan tanaman dengan nilai ekonomis yang tinggi, namun dalam tehnik budidayanya, tidak terlepas dari serangan hama, salah satunya adalah penggerek buah kakao (Conopomorpha cramerella). Dalam upaya pengendaliannya, dapat memanfaatkan cendawan entomopatogen asal tanah yang terdapat di beberapa lapisan tanah pada perkebunan kakao. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan jenis cendawan entomopatogen serta pengaruhnya terhadap serangga umpan (pupa C. cramerella). Penelitian ini berlangsung pada bulan Agustus 2017 sampai selesai. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan di Perkebunan Kakao kemudian diuji lanjut di Laboratorium Hama dan Penyakit Tanaman, Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Tadulako. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari 3 perlakuan yaitu : tanah pada horizon O (L1), tanah pada horizon A (L2), dan tanah pada horizon E (L3). Isolasi cendawan dengan cara menggunakan serangga umpan (pupa C. cramerella) yang diperoleh dari lapangan. Identifikasi cendawan dilakukan secara makroskopis dan mikroskopis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 4 genus cendawan entomopatogen yang dapat teridentifikasi yaitu Aspergillus, Beauveria, Verticillium dan Fusarium. Persentase kematian serangga uji yang terinfeksi cendawan pada horizon O sebanyak 20 ekor (100%), horizon A sebanyak 20 ekor (100%), dan horizon E sebanyak 15 ekor (60%).

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fungsi predator dan parasitoid yang terdapat pada lahan penelitian tanaman cabai yang terletak di Desa Sidera, Kecamatan Biromaru, Kabupaten Sigi. Adapun identifikasi dilakukan di Laboratorium Hama dan Penyakit Tumbuhan Universitas Tadulako. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada Bulan Mei-Juli 2016. Metode yang dilakukan yaitu metode survey pendahuluan di lapangan dengan cara meninjau dan menentukan lokasi serta melakukan penetapan lokasi titik sampel pengamatan pada masing-masing penggunaan lahan (lahan pertanian petani) dan dilanjutkan dengan pengambilan sampel serangga sebagai bahan untuk analisis di laboratorium. Pengambilan sampel dengan menggunakan perangkap yang telah diberikan alkohol dan juga menggunakan jaring (swep nett). Hasil dari identifikasi di Laboratorium Hama dan Penyakit Tumbuhan Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Tadulako Palu, Terdapat sembilan spesies serangga predator yaitu: Mantis religeosa, Harmonia Axyridis, Coccinella septempunctata, Cycloneda munda, Liriothermis, Orthermis ferruginea, Libellula, Oxyopes sertatus dan Selonopsis sp dan satu spesies parasitoid Aphidius aquilus
